git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arm/arm-soc
Pull ARM SoC platform updates from Arnd Bergmann:
"Most of the commits are for defconfig changes, to enable newly added
drivers or features that people have started using. For the changed
lines lines, we have mostly cleanups, the affected platforms are OMAP,
Versatile, EP93xx, Samsung, Broadcom, i.MX, and Actions.
The largest single change is the introduction of the TI "sysc" bus
driver, with the intention of cleaning up more legacy code.
Two new SoC platforms get added this time:
- Allwinner R40 is a modernized version of the A20 chip, now with a
Quad-Core ARM Cortex-A7. According to the manufacturer, it is
intended for "Smart Hardware"
- Broadcom Hurricane 2 (Aka Strataconnect BCM5334X) is a family of
chips meant for managed gigabit ethernet switches, based around a
Cortex-A9 CPU.
Finally, we gain SMP support for two platforms: Renesas R-Car E2 and
Amlogic Meson8/8b, which were previously added but only supported
uniprocessor operation"

Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.
By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.
Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.
This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne.
How this work was done:
Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
the use cases:
- file had no licensing information it it.
- file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
- file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,
Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.
The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.
The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
- Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
- Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
lines of source
- File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
lines).
All documentation files were explicitly excluded.
The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
identifiers to apply.
- when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
COPYING file license applied.
For non */uapi/* files that summary was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 11139
and resulted in the first patch in this series.
If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH
Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930
and resulted in the second patch in this series.
- if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one
of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if
any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in
it (per prior point). Results summary:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270
GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17
LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15
GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14
((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5
LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4
LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1
and that resulted in the third patch in this series.
- when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
the concluded license(s).
- when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.
- In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).
- When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
- If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
in time.
In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
they are related.
Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
in about 15000 files.
In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
correct identifier.
Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
version early this week with:
- a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
license ids and scores
- reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
- reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
SPDX license was correct
This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.
These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

We cannot use bits from configuration registers as API between
platforms and driver like this, abstract it out to two enums
and mimic the stuff passed as device tree data.
This is done to make it possible for the driver to generate the
ccfg word on-the-fly so we can support more PL08x derivatives.

The I2C and FB dependencies are hard to untangle, but I notice that
S3C64XX_PL080 selecting ARM_AMBA is one piece of the puzzle that
can easily be avoided, as ARCH_S3C64XX already select ARM_AMBA.
Removing the redundant 'select' now can help us in the future if we
run into a variation of the same dependency.

"In the SoC branch we normally collect classic arch/arm/mach-*
contents, i.e. C code changes for SoC platforms. This release cycle
the diffstat is quite nice, in that we're removing 3x the amount of
code that's being added.
The main reason for this is that there's a removal of camera drivers
for Freescale i.MX chips (driver was removed so the device
registration isn't needed any more). There's also removal of display
initialization code for OMAP that is no longer needed.
The rest are mostly minor tweaks and cleanups; constification on
Samsung platforms, cleanup of ux500 platform data, purge of other
unused platform data/device seutp on i.MX and other good stuff.
New SoC support this cycle is for two Allwinner platforms, H2+ and

Pull MTD updates from Brian Norris:
"Nothing enormous here, though notably we have some of the first work
of a few new maintainers. I think for now I'll still be sending pull
requests, but that's open to change in the future. Summary:
Core:
- dynamic BDI object allocation (resolves some problems when built as
a module)
- cleanups in the ooblayout handling
NAND:
- new tango NAND controller driver
- new ox820 NAND controller driver
- addition of a new full-ID entry in the nand_ids table
- rework of the s3c240 driver to support DT
- extension of the nand_sdr_timings to expose tCCS, tPROG and tR
- addition of a new flag to ask the core to wait for tCCS when
sending a RNDIN/RNDOUT command
- addition of a new flag to ask the core to let the controller driver
send the READ/PROGPAGE command
Minor fixes/cleanup/cosmetic changes:
- properly support 512 ECC step size in the sunxi driver
- improve the error messages in the PXA probe path
- fix module autoload in the omap2 driver
- cleanup of several nand drivers to return nand_scan{_tail}() error
code instead of returning -EIO
- various cleanups in the denali driver
- fix an error check in nandsim
SPI NOR:
- new flash IDs
- wait for Spansion flash to be ready after quad-enable
- error handling fixes for Candence QSPI
- constify some structures in Freescale QSPI driver"

Removing CONFIG_MTD_NAND_S3C2410_HWECC option and adding a ecc_mode

The driver was checking for non-NULL address of struct's members:
- s3c_audio_pdata->type (union),
- s3c_audio_pdata->type.i2s (embedded struct).
This is pointless as these will be always non-NULL. The 's3c_audio_pdata'
is always initialized in static memory so it will be zeroed.
Additionally the 'type' member was an union with only one member.
It is safe to reorganize the structures to get rid of useless union and
checks for addresses to fix the coccinelle warning:

The smartq_map_io() and smartq_machine_init() functions are used by both
SmartQ 5 and SmartQ 7 machines and exported via the mach-smartq.h header
file. However that header file is not included by the mach-smartq.c file
that implements them, causing sparse warnings.
Include mach-smartq.h from mach-smartq.c to fix these warnings.

The change to simplify of_platform_populate() had an unintended
side-effect of introducing a build warning on s3c64xx:

This replaces:
- "select ARCH_REQUIRE_GPIOLIB" with "select GPIOLIB" as this can
now be selected directly.
- "select ARCH_WANT_OPTIONAL_GPIOLIB" with no dependency: GPIOLIB
is now selectable by everyone, so we need not declare our
intent to select it.
When ordering the symbols the following rationale was used:
if the selects were in alphabetical order, I moved select GPIOLIB
to be in alphabetical order, but if the selects were not
maintained in alphabetical order, I just replaced
"select ARCH_REQUIRE_GPIOLIB" with "select GPIOLIB".

The smdk6410 board defines lots of regulator settings, but uses
most of them only in certain configurations, and otherwise leaves
them without any references, so we get lots of randconfig warnings
about them:
mach-s3c64xx/mach-smdk6410.c:303:35: error: 'smdk6410_vddarm' defined but not used [-Werror=unused-variable]

mach-s3c64xx/mach-smdk6410.c:343:35: error: 'smdk6410_vdduh_mmc' defined but not used [-Werror=unused-variable]

are any references or not in a given configuration.

"This branch is the culmination of 5 years of effort to bring the ARMv6

refactoring by a huge number of people, and creation of several new
(and major) subsystems to better abstract out all the platform details
in an appropriate manner.
The bulk of this branch is a large patchset from Arnd that brings
several of the more minor and older platforms we have closer to
multiplatform support. Among these are MMP, S3C64xx, Orion5x, mv78xx0
and realview Much of this is moving around header files from old mach
directories, but there are also some cleanup patches of debug_ll
(lowlevel debug per-platform options) and other parts.
Linus Walleij also has some patchs to clean up the older ARM Realview
platforms by finally introducing DT support, and Rob Herring has some
for ARM Versatile which is now DT-only. Both of these platforms are
now multiplatform.
Finally, a couple of patches from Russell for Dove PMU, and a fix from
Valentin Rothberg for Exynos ADC, which were rebased on top of the
series to avoid conflicts"

For a long time, gcc has warned about odd configurations on s3c64xx:
In file included from arch/arm/plat-samsung/pm.c:34:0:
arch/arm/mach-s3c64xx/include/mach/pm-core.h:61:0: warning: "s3c_irqwake_eintallow" redefined

arch/arm/plat-samsung/include/plat/pm.h:49:0: note: this is the location of the previous definition
#define s3c_irqwake_eintallow 0
The definitions of s3c_irqwake_intallow and s3c_irqwake_eintallow are a
bit consistent between the various platforms. Things have become easier
now that it's only s3c24xx and s3c64xx that use them at all, so I've tried
to rearrange the definitions to make it more obvious what is going on.

I got one randconfig build that failed to compile plat-samsung/pm-debug.c

I have not investigated why this does not show up much more often, I
guess the headers are usually included from elsewhere, but adding
explicit #include statements is an obvious fix.

Most of the code for the s3c64xx platform is only used when booting
with ATAGS based board files, but not when using device-tree.
This tries to identify all the s3c64xx specific code that is
unneeded when CONFIG_ATAGS is not set, so we can build a smaller
DT-only kernel if configured that way.
All board support is still left intact but now depends on the
CONFIG_ATAGS symbol that users may intentionally disable.

After all preparation work is done, we can finally move the Kconfig
option for s3c64xx into ARCH_MULTIPLATFORM. This implies allowing
SAMSUNG_ATAGS for multiplatform again, but now disallowing the
ADC driver below it, as that still has dependencies on header files.

The old ADC and touchscreen drivers are not compatible with
multiplatform support, but we can use the exynos-adc driver
as a replacement.
This changes the common device creation functions for s3c64xx
(but not s3c24xx for now) to use the new driver. To do this,
we have to pass the interrupt resources in the opposite order
and pass the platform data in the adc device node.

This is another prerequisite for enabling multiplatform
support, and it is the part I am least certain about.
I assume it will cause the extra boot message "Cannot
allocate irq_descs @ IRQ%d, assuming pre-allocated" to
be printed, but otherwise work ok. This definitely needs
to be tested on real hardware to see if it works.

In a multiplatform kernel, each initcall is run regardless
of the platform it is meant for, so it must not attempt to
access SoC-specific registers.
This adds 'if (soc_is_s3c64xx)' to all initcalls that are
specific to the s3c64xx platform, to prevent them from breaking
other platforms once we can build them into a combined kernel.

As a prerequisite for moving s3c64xx into multiplatform configurations,
we need to change the smartq audio driver to stop using hardcoded
gpio numbers from the header file, and instead pass the gpio data
through platform_data.
In order to do that, we also move the code to use module_platform_driver
and register the platform device using platform_device_register_simple
and register the gpios through the gpiod API.

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/linusw/linux-gpio
Pull GPIO updates from Linus Walleij:
"Here is the bulk of GPIO changes for v4.5.
Notably there are big refactorings mostly by myself, aimed at getting
the gpio_chip into a shape that makes me believe I can proceed to
preserve state for a proper userspace ABI (character device) that has
already been proposed once, but resulted in the feedback that I need
to go back and restructure stuff. So I've been restructuring stuff.
On the way I ran into brokenness (return code from the get_value()
callback) and had to fix it. Also, refactored generic GPIO to be
simpler.
Some of that is still waiting to trickle down from the subsystems all
over the kernel that provide random gpio_chips, I've touched every
single GPIO driver in the kernel now, oh man I didn't know I was
responsible for so much...
Apart from that we're churning along as usual.
I took some effort to test and retest so it should merge nicely and we
shook out a couple of bugs in -next.
Infrastructural changes:
- In struct gpio_chip, rename the .dev node to .parent to better
reflect the fact that this is not the GPIO struct device
abstraction. We will add that soon so this would be totallt
confusing.
- It was noted that the driver .get_value() callbacks was sometimes
reporting negative -ERR values to the gpiolib core, expecting them
to be propagated to consumer gpiod_get_value() and gpio_get_value()
calls. This was not happening, so as there was a mess of drivers
returning negative errors and some returning "anything else than
zero" to indicate that a line was active. As some would have bit
31 set to indicate "line active" it clashed with negative error
codes. This is fixed by the largeish series clamping values in all
drivers with !!value to [0,1] and then augmenting the code to
propagate error codes to consumers. (Includes some ACKed patches
in other subsystems.)
- Add a void *data pointer to struct gpio_chip. The container_of()
design pattern is indeed very nice, but we want to reform the
struct gpio_chip to be a non-volative, stateless business, and keep
states internal to the gpiolib to be able to hold on to the state
when adding a proper userspace ABI (character device) further down
the road. To achieve this, drivers need a handle at the internal
state that is not dependent on their struct gpio_chip() so we add
gpiochip_add_data() and gpiochip_get_data() following the pattern
of many other subsystems. All the "use gpiochip data pointer"
patches transforms drivers to this scheme.
- The Generic GPIO chip header has been merged into the general
<linux/gpio/driver.h> header, and the custom header for that
removed. Instead of having a separate mm_gpio_chip struct for
these generic drivers, merge that into struct gpio_chip,
simplifying the code and removing the need for separate and
confusing includes.
Misc improvements:
- Stabilize the way GPIOs are looked up from the ACPI legacy
specification.
- Incremental driver features for PXA, PCA953X, Lantiq (patches from
the OpenWRT community), RCAR, Zynq, PL061, 104-idi-48
New drivers:
- Add a GPIO chip to the ALSA SoC AC97 driver.
- Add a new Broadcom NSP SoC driver (this lands in the pinctrl dir,
but the branch is merged here too to account for infrastructural
changes).
- The sx150x driver now supports the sx1502"

The separate struct bgpio_chip has been a pain to handle, both
by being confusingly similar in name to struct gpio_chip and
for being contained inside a struct so that struct gpio_chip
is contained in a struct contained in a struct, making several
steps of dereferencing necessary.
Make things simpler: include the fields directly into
<linux/gpio/driver.h>, #ifdef:ed for CONFIG_GENERIC_GPIO, and
get rid of the <linux/basic_mmio_gpio.h> altogether. Prefix
some of the member variables with bgpio_* and add proper
kerneldoc while we're at it.
Modify all users to handle the change and use a struct
gpio_chip directly. And while we're at it: replace all
container_of() dereferencing by gpiochip_get_data() and
registering the gpio_chip with gpiochip_add_data().

As we are now passing the filter data as pointers to the drivers,
we can take the final step and also pass the filter function the
same way. I'm keeping this change separate, as there it's less
obvious that this is a net win.
Upsides of this are:
- The ASoC drivers are completely independent from the DMA engine
implementation, which simplifies the Kconfig logic and in theory
allows the same sound drivers to be built in a kernel that supports
different kinds of dmaengine drivers.
- Consistency with other subsystems and drivers
On the other hand, we have a few downsides:
- The s3c24xx-dma driver now needs to be built-in for the ac97 platform
device to be instantiated on s3c2440.
- samsung_dmaengine_pcm_config cannot be marked 'const' any more
because the filter function pointer needs to be set at runtime.
This is safe as long we don't have multiple different DMA engines
in thet same system at runtime, but is nonetheless ugly.
