* sched/headers: Move task->mm handling methods to <linux/sched/mm.h>Ingo Molnar2017-03-031-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Move the following task->mm helper APIs into a new header file, <linux/sched/mm.h>, to further reduce the size and complexity of <linux/sched.h>. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Apart from adding the helper function itself, the rest of the kernel is converted mechanically using: git grep -l 'atomic_inc.*mm_users' | xargs sed -i 's/atomic_inc(&\(.*\)->mm_users);/mmget\(\1\);/' git grep -l 'atomic_inc.*mm_users' | xargs sed -i 's/atomic_inc(&\(.*\)\.mm_users);/mmget\(\&\1\);/' This is needed for a later patch that hooks into the helper, but might be a worthwhile cleanup on its own. * kprobes: move kprobe declarations to asm-generic/kprobes.hLuis R. Rodriguez2017-02-271-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Often all is needed is these small helpers, instead of compiler.h or a full kprobes.h. This is important for asm helpers, in fact even some asm/kprobes.h make use of these helpers... instead just keep a generic asm file with helpers useful for asm code with the least amount of clutter as possible. Likewise we need now to also address what to do about this file for both when architectures have CONFIG_HAVE_KPROBES, and when they do not. Then for when architectures have CONFIG_HAVE_KPROBES but have disabled CONFIG_KPROBES. Right now most asm/kprobes.h do not have guards against CONFIG_KPROBES, this means most architecture code cannot include asm/kprobes.h safely. Correct this and add guards for architectures missing them. Additionally provide architectures that not have kprobes support with the default asm-generic solution. This lets us force asm/kprobes.h on the header include/linux/kprobes.h always, but most importantly we can now safely include just asm/kprobes.h on architecture code without bringing the full kitchen sink of header files. Two architectures already provided a guard against CONFIG_KPROBES on its kprobes.h: sh, arch. The rest of the architectures needed gaurds added. We avoid including any not-needed headers on asm/kprobes.h unless kprobes have been enabled. In a subsequent atomic change we can try now to remove compiler.h from include/linux/kprobes.h. During this sweep I've also identified a few architectures defining a common macro needed for both kprobes and ftrace, that of the definition of the breakput instruction up. Some refer to this as BREAKPOINT_INSTRUCTION. This must be kept outside of the #ifdef CONFIG_KPROBES guard. Potentially these fixes were candidates for being merged during the rc cycle, and are certainly backport candidates but enough little things turned up during review and testing that I decided they should be handled as part of the normal development process just to be certain there were not any great surprises when it came time to backport some of these fixes" * 'for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/ebiederm/user-namespace: Revert "evm: Translate user/group ids relative to s_user_ns when computing HMAC" exec: Ensure mm->user_ns contains the execed files ptrace: Don't allow accessing an undumpable mm ptrace: Capture the ptracer's creds not PT_PTRACE_CAP mm: Add a user_ns owner to mm_struct and fix ptrace permission checks

| |/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | It is the reasonable expectation that if an executable file is not readable there will be no way for a user without special privileges to read the file. This is enforced in ptrace_attach but if ptrace is already attached before exec there is no enforcement for read-only executables. As the only way to read such an mm is through access_process_vm spin a variant called ptrace_access_vm that will fail if the target process is not being ptraced by the current process, or the current process did not have sufficient privileges when ptracing began to read the target processes mm. In the ptrace implementations replace access_process_vm by ptrace_access_vm. There remain several ptrace sites that still use access_process_vm as they are reading the target executables instructions (for kernel consumption) or register stacks. As such it does not appear necessary to add a permission check to those calls. This bug has always existed in Linux. For most architectures cpu_relax and barrier are the same, but on some architectures cpu_relax can add some latency. For example on power,sparc64 and arc, cpu_relax can shift the CPU towards other hardware threads in an SMT environment. On s390 cpu_relax does even more, it uses an hypercall to the hypervisor to give up the timeslice. In contrast to the SMT yielding this can result in larger latencies. In some places this latency is unwanted, so another variant "cpu_relax_lowlatency" was introduced. Before this is used in more and more places, lets revert the logic and provide a cpu_relax_yield that can be called in places where yielding is more important than latency. By default this is the same as cpu_relax on all architectures. The purpose of this change is to make the use of FOLL_FORCE explicit so it is easier to grep for and clearer to callers that this flag is being used. The use of FOLL_FORCE is an issue as it overrides missing VM_READ/VM_WRITE flags for the VMA whose pages we are reading from/writing to, which can result in surprising behaviour. The patch series came out of the discussion around commit 38e088546522 ("mm: check VMA flags to avoid invalid PROT_NONE NUMA balancing"), which addressed a BUG_ON() being triggered when a page was faulted in with PROT_NONE set but having been overridden by FOLL_FORCE. do_numa_page() was run on the assumption the page _must_ be one marked for NUMA node migration as an actual PROT_NONE page would have been dealt with prior to this code path, however FOLL_FORCE introduced a situation where this assumption did not hold. See https://marc.info/?l=linux-mm&m=147585445805166 for the patch proposal" Additionally, there's a fix for an ancient bug related to FOLL_FORCE and FOLL_WRITE by me. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This removes the 'write' argument from access_process_vm() and replaces it with 'gup_flags' as use of this function previously silently implied FOLL_FORCE, whereas after this patch callers explicitly pass this flag. We make this explicit as use of FOLL_FORCE can result in surprising behaviour (and hence bugs) within the mm subsystem. * | nmi_backtrace: generate one-line reports for idle cpusChris Metcalf2016-10-071-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | When doing an nmi backtrace of many cores, most of which are idle, the output is a little overwhelming and very uninformative. Suppress messages for cpus that are idling when they are interrupted and just emit one line, "NMI backtrace for N skipped: idling at pc 0xNNN". We do this by grouping all the cpuidle code together into a new .cpuidle.text section, and then checking the address of the interrupted PC to see if it lies within that section. This commit suitably tags x86 and tile idle routines, and only adds in the minimal framework for other architectures. It is agreed that in the OF config path, the device tree defines trigger characteristics. - the same warning, mutatis mutandis, for ACPI-probed GPIO irqchips. - we introduce the ability to mark certain IRQ lines as "unusable" as they can be taken by BIOS/firmware, unrouted in silicon and generally nasty if you use them, and such things. This is put to good use in the STMPE driver and also in the Cherryview pin control driver. - a new "mockup" virtual GPIO device that can be used for testing. Firstly, the access size must correspond to the following rule: (a) at least one of 16-bit or 8-bit access size must be supported (b) 32-bit accesses are optional, and may be enabled in addition to the above. Secondly, it provides no emulation of 16-bit accesses, instead blindly making 16-bit accesses even when the platform specifies that only 8-bit is supported. Reorganise smc91x.h so we can make use of the existing 16-bit access emulation already provided - if 16-bit accesses are supported, use 16-bit accesses directly, otherwise if 8-bit accesses are supported, use the provided 16-bit access emulation. If neither, BUG(). This exactly reflects the driver behaviour prior to the commit being fixed. Since the conversion incorrectly cut down the available access sizes on several platforms, we also need to go through every platform and fix up the overly-restrictive access size: Arnd assumed that if a platform can perform 32-bit, 16-bit and 8-bit accesses, then only a 32-bit access size needed to be specified - not so, all available access sizes must be specified. This likely fixes some performance regressions in doing this: if a platform does not support 8-bit accesses, 8-bit accesses have been emulated by performing a 16-bit read-modify-write access. Tested on the Intel Assabet/Neponset platform, which supports only 8-bit accesses, which was broken by the original commit. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Storing this value will help prevent unwinders from getting out of sync with the function graph tracer ret_stack. Now instead of needing a stateful iterator, they can compare the return address pointer to find the right ret_stack entry. Note that an array of 50 ftrace_ret_stack structs is allocated for every task. So when an arch implements this, it will add either 200 or 400 bytes of memory usage per task (depending on whether it's a 32-bit or 64-bit platform). Thus the pointer can point to const data. However the attributes do not have to be a bitfield. Instead unsigned long will do fine: 1. This is just simpler. Both in terms of reading the code and setting attributes. Instead of initializing local attributes on the stack and passing pointer to it to dma_set_attr(), just set the bits. 2. It brings safeness and checking for const correctness because the attributes are passed by value.
