* m32r: fix build warning about putcSudip Mukherjee2016-07-151-4/+5
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | We were getting build warning: arch/m32r/boot/compressed/m32r_sio.c:11:13: warning: conflicting types for built-in function 'putc' Here putc is used as a static function so lets just rename it to avoid the conflict with the builtin putc. * kbuild: delete unnecessary "@:"Masahiro Yamada2016-04-201-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | Since commit 2aedcd098a94 ('kbuild: suppress annoying "... is up to date." message'), $(call if_changed,...) is evaluated to "@:" when there is nothing to do. We no longer need to add "@:" after $(call if_changed,...) to suppress "... is up to date." message. * lib/decompressors: use real out buf size for gunzip with kernelYinghai Lu2015-09-101-1/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | When loading x86 64bit kernel above 4GiB with patched grub2, got kernel gunzip error. | early console in decompress_kernel | decompress_kernel: | input: [0x807f2143b4-0x807ff61aee] | output: [0x807cc00000-0x807f3ea29b] 0x027ea29c: output_len | boot via startup_64 | KASLR using RDTSC... | new output: [0x46fe000000-0x470138cfff] 0x0338d000: output_run_size | decompress: [0x46fe000000-0x47007ea29b] <=== [0x807f2143b4-0x807ff61aee] | | Decompressing Linux... gz... | | uncompression error | | -- System halted the new buffer is at 0x46fe000000ULL, decompressor_gzip is using 0xffffffb901ffffff as out_len. gunzip in lib/zlib_inflate/inflate.c cap that len to 0x01ffffff and decompress fails later. We could hit this problem with crashkernel booting that uses kexec loading kernel above 4GiB. We have decompress_* support: 1. inbuf[]/outbuf[] for kernel preboot. 2. inbuf[]/flush() for initramfs 3. fill()/flush() for initrd. This bug only affect kernel preboot path that use outbuf[]. Add __decompress and take real out_buf_len for gunzip instead of guessing wrong buf size. * kbuild: use INSTALLKERNEL to select customized installkernel scriptSam Ravnborg2009-09-201-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Replace the use of CROSS_COMPILE to select a customized installkernel script with the possibility to set INSTALLKERNEL to select a custom installkernel script when running make: make INSTALLKERNEL=arm-installkernel install With this patch we are now more consistent across different architectures - they did not all support use of CROSS_COMPILE. The use of CROSS_COMPILE was a hack as this really belongs to gcc/binutils and the installkernel script does not change just because we change toolchain. The use of CROSS_COMPILE caused troubles with an upcoming patch that saves CROSS_COMPILE when a kernel is built - it would no longer be installable. [Thanks to Peter Z. for this hint] This patch undos what Ian did in commit: 0f8e2d62fa04441cd12c08ce521e84e5bd3f8a46 ("use ${CROSS_COMPILE}installkernel in arch/*/boot/install.sh") The patch has been lightly tested on x86 only - but all changes looks obvious. * m32r: build fix for __stringify macroHirokazu Takata2009-05-021-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch fixes the following build error of 2.6.30-rc3-git2: AS arch/m32r/kernel/head.o In file included from /include/linux/init.h:7, from /arch/m32r/kernel/head.S:11: /include/linux/stringify.h:9: error: syntax error in macro parameter list /include/linux/stringify.h:10: error: syntax error in macro parameter list This build error was caused at __HEAD macro in arch/m32r/kernel/head.S, which uses __stringify() macro. Remove -traditional option from EXTRA_AFLAGS for the m32r, because the __stringify() macro depends on the gcc's variadic macro extension function, due to commit: Make __stringify support variable argument macros too commit: 8f7c2c37319a81ef4c2bfdec67b1ccd5744d97e4 Signed-off-by: Hirokazu Takata <takata@linux-m32r.org>
* inflate: refactor inflate malloc codeThomas Petazzoni2008-07-251-37/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Inflate requires some dynamic memory allocation very early in the boot process and this is provided with a set of four functions: malloc/free/gzip_mark/gzip_release. The old inflate code used a mark/release strategy rather than implement free. This new version instead keeps a count on the number of outstanding allocations and when it hits zero, it resets the malloc arena. This allows removing all the mark and release implementations and unifying all the malloc/free implementations. The architecture-dependent code must define two addresses: - free_mem_ptr, the address of the beginning of the area in which allocations should be made - free_mem_end_ptr, the address of the end of the area in which allocations should be made. If set to 0, then no check is made on the number of allocations, it just grows as much as needed The architecture-dependent code can also provide an arch_decomp_wdog() function call. This function will be called several times during the decompression process, and allow to notify the watchdog that the system is still running. If an architecture provides such a call, then it must define ARCH_HAS_DECOMP_WDOG so that the generic inflate code calls arch_decomp_wdog(). Work initially done by Matt Mackall, updated to a recent version of the kernel and improved by me. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
