* powerpc/32: remove a NOP from memset()Christophe Leroy2017-09-011-1/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | memset() is patched after initialisation to activate the optimised part which uses cache instructions. Today we have a 'b 2f' to skip the optimised patch, which then gets replaced by a NOP, implying a useless cycle consumption. As we have a 'bne 2f' just before, we could use that instruction for the live patching, hence removing the need to have a dedicated 'b 2f' to be replaced by a NOP. This patch changes the 'bne 2f' by a 'b 2f'. During init, that 'b 2f' is then replaced by 'bne 2f' Signed-off-by: Christophe Leroy <christophe.leroy@c-s.fr> Signed-off-by: Michael Ellerman <mpe@ellerman.id.au>

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | We cannot do those initializations from apply_feature_fixups() as this function runs in a very restricted environment on 32-bit where the kernel isn't running at its linked address and the PTRRELOC() macro must be used for any global accesss. Instead, split them into a separtate steup_feature_keys() function which is called in a more suitable spot on ppc32. * powerpc: Move cpu_has_feature() to a separate fileKevin Hao2016-08-011-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | We plan to use jump label for cpu_has_feature(). In order to implement this we need to include the linux/jump_label.h in asm/cputable.h. Unfortunately if we do that it leads to an include loop. The root of the problem seems to be that reg.h needs cputable.h (for CPU_FTRs), and then cputable.h via jump_label.h eventually pulls in hw_irq.h which needs reg.h (for MSR_EE). So move cpu_has_feature() to a separate file on its own. | | | | | | | | | | | This converts all the 32-bit platforms to use the expanded device-tree which is a pretty mechanical change. Unlike 64-bit, the 32-bit kernel didn't rely on platform initializations to setup the MMU since it sets it up entirely before probe_machine() so the move has comparatively less consequences though it's a bigger patch. * powerpc32: memset: only use dcbz once cache is enabledLEROY Christophe2015-09-171-0/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | memset() uses instruction dcbz to speed up clearing by not wasting time loading cache line with data that will be overwritten. Some platform like mpc52xx do no have cache active at startup and can therefore not use memset(). Allthough no part of the code explicitly uses memset(), GCC may make calls to it. This patch modifies memset() such that at startup, memset() unconditionally skip the optimised bloc that uses dcbz instruction. * powerpc: Remove unused vgacon_remap_base & fix build breakMichael Ellerman2014-11-101-5/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The build is broken with CONFIG_PPC32=y, CONFIG_FB_VGA16=y and CONFIG_VGA_CONSOLE=n. The problem is that vgacon_remap_base is not defined. It's used in: #define VGA_MAP_MEM(x,s) (x + vgacon_remap_base) Which is used in the vga16fb.c code. Digging down it seems vgacon_remap_base is never initialised. It used to be, back in arch/ppc (pplus.c and prep_setup.c), but none of that code ever made it to arch/powerpc. So given it's been unused for >6 years, remove it. Whether vga16fb.c works on 32-bit is another question, but this patch shouldn't affect it. Signed-off-by: Michael Ellerman <mpe@ellerman.id.au>

* powerpc/ppc32: Fix the bug in the init of non-base exception stack for UPKevin Hao2014-02-111-0/+5
| | | | | | | | | | | | | We would allocate one specific exception stack for each kind of non-base exceptions for every CPU. For ppc32 the CPU hard ID is used as the subscript to get the specific exception stack for one CPU. But for an UP kernel, there is only one element in the each kind of exception stack array. We would get stuck if the CPU hard ID is not equal to '0'. So in this case we should use the subscript '0' no matter what the CPU hard ID is. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Default CONFIG_PANIC_TIMEOUT to 180 seconds on powerpc. The pSeries continue to set the timeout to 10 seconds at run-time. Thus, there's a small window where we don't have the correct value on pSeries, but if this is only run-time discoverable we don't have a better option. In any case, if the user changes the default setting of 180 seconds, we honor that user setting. Other unused register assignments that were once parameters to machine_init are dropped. For FSL BookE, look up the physical address of the device tree from the effective address passed in r3 by the loader. This is required for situations where memory does not start at zero (due to AMP or IOMMU-less virtualization), and thus the IMA doesn't start at zero, and thus the device tree effective address does not equal the physical address. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The interrupt stacks need to be indexed by the physical cpu since the critical, debug and machine check handlers use the contents of SPRN_PIR to index the critirq_ctx, dbgirq_ctx, and mcheckirq_ctx arrays. * | memblock: Introduce default allocation limit and use it to replace explicit onesBenjamin Herrenschmidt2010-08-051-1/+1
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This introduce memblock.current_limit which is used to limit allocations from memblock_alloc() or memblock_alloc_base(..., MEMBLOCK_ALLOC_ACCESSIBLE). The old MEMBLOCK_ALLOC_ANYWHERE changes value from 0 to ~(u64)0 and can still be used with memblock_alloc_base() to allocate really anywhere. It is -no-longer- cropped to MEMBLOCK_REAL_LIMIT which disappears. Note to archs: I'm leaving the default limit to MEMBLOCK_ALLOC_ANYWHERE. I strongly recommend that you ensure that you set an appropriate limit during boot in order to guarantee that an memblock_alloc() at any time results in something that is accessible with a simple __va(). The reason is that a subsequent patch will introduce the ability for the array to resize itself by reallocating itself. The MEMBLOCK core will honor the current limit when performing those allocations. Signed-off-by: Benjamin Herrenschmidt <benh@kernel.crashing.org>

* powerpc: Unconditionally enabled irq stacksChristoph Hellwig2010-06-151-4/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | Irq stacks provide an essential protection from stack overflows through external interrupts, at the cost of two additionals stacks per CPU. Enable them unconditionally to simplify the kernel build and prevent people from accidentally disabling them. * powerpc: Fix swiotlb to respect the boot optionFUJITA Tomonori2010-03-191-6/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | powerpc initializes swiotlb before parsing the kernel boot options so swiotlb options (e.g. specifying the swiotlb buffer size) are ignored. Any time before freeing bootmem works for swiotlb so this patch moves powerpc's swiotlb initialization after parsing the kernel boot options, mem_init (as x86 does). * swiotlb: Defer swiotlb init printing, export swiotlb_print_info()FUJITA Tomonori2009-11-101-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This enables us to avoid printing swiotlb memory info when we initialize swiotlb. After swiotlb initialization, we could find that we don't need swiotlb. This patch removes the code to print swiotlb memory info in swiotlb_init() and exports the function to do that. * powerpc: Add irqtrace support for 32-bit powerpcBenjamin Herrenschmidt2009-06-261-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Based on initial work from: Dale Farnsworth <dale@farnsworth.org> Add the low level irq tracing hooks for 32-bit powerpc needed to enable full lockdep functionality. The approach taken to deal with the code in entry_32.S is that we don't trace all the transitions of MSR:EE when we just turn it off to peek at TI_FLAGS without races. Only when we are calling into C code or returning from exceptions with a state that have changed from what lockdep thinks. There's a little bugger though: If we take an exception that keeps interrupts enabled (such as an alignment exception) while interrupts are enabled, we will call trace_hardirqs_on() on the way back spurriously. Not a big deal, but to get rid of it would require remembering in pt_regs that the exception was one of the type that kept interrupts enabled which we don't know at this stage. (Well, we could test all cases for regs->trap but that sucks too much). Signed-off-by: Benjamin Herrenschmidt <benh@kernel.crashing.org> Tested-by: Kumar Gala <galak@kernel.crashing.org>
