* sparc: Add module.h to files previously implicitly using it.Paul Gortmaker2011-10-311-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The file mm/extable.c needs module.h for within_module_init(), and also for search_exception_tables [which arguably could be living somewhere more appropriate than module.h] - eventually causing this: arch/sparc/mm/extable.c: In function 'trim_init_extable': arch/sparc/mm/extable.c:74: error: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type arch/sparc/mm/extable.c:75: error: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type arch/sparc/mm/extable.c:77: error: implicit declaration of function 'within_module_init' arch/sparc/mm/extable.c:77: error: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type arch/sparc/mm/extable.c:78: error: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type arch/sparc/mm/extable.c:80: error: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type arch/sparc/mm/extable.c: In function 'search_extables_range': arch/sparc/mm/extable.c:93: error: implicit declaration of function 'search_exception_tables' The other instances are more straight forward uses of things like MODULE_* and module_* Signed-off-by: Paul Gortmaker <paul.gortmaker@windriver.com>

* sparc32: fix section mismatch warnings in apc, pmc and time_32Sam Ravnborg2011-04-211-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | In all cases there were a struct of_device_id variable defined __initdata. But it was referenced from struct platform_driver.of_match_table which is not guaranteed to be used during init only. So drop the __initdata annotation. This fixes following warnings: WARNING: arch/sparc/kernel/built-in.o(.data+0x810): Section mismatch in reference from the variable clock_driver to the variable .init.data:clock_match The variable clock_driver references the variable __initdata clock_match If the reference is valid then annotate the variable with __init* or __refdata (see linux/init.h) or name the variable: *_template, *_timer, *_sht, *_ops, *_probe, *_probe_one, *_console WARNING: arch/sparc/kernel/built-in.o(.data+0xcec): Section mismatch in reference from the variable apc_driver to the variable .init.data:apc_match The variable apc_driver references the variable __initdata apc_match If the reference is valid then annotate the variable with __init* or __refdata (see linux/init.h) or name the variable: *_template, *_timer, *_sht, *_ops, *_probe, *_probe_one, *_console WARNING: arch/sparc/kernel/built-in.o(.data+0xd60): Section mismatch in reference from the variable pmc_driver to the variable .init.data:pmc_match The variable pmc_driver references the variable __initdata pmc_match If the reference is valid then annotate the variable with __init* or __refdata (see linux/init.h) or name the variable: *_template, *_timer, *_sht, *_ops, *_probe, *_probe_one, *_console Signed-off-by: Sam Ravnborg <sam@ravnborg.org> Signed-off-by: David S. * llseek: automatically add .llseek fopArnd Bergmann2010-10-151-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | All file_operations should get a .llseek operation so we can make nonseekable_open the default for future file operations without a .llseek pointer. The three cases that we can automatically detect are no_llseek, seq_lseek and default_llseek. For cases where we can we can automatically prove that the file offset is always ignored, we use noop_llseek, which maintains the current behavior of not returning an error from a seek. New drivers should normally not use noop_llseek but instead use no_llseek and call nonseekable_open at open time. Existing drivers can be converted to do the same when the maintainer knows for certain that no user code relies on calling seek on the device file. The generated code is often incorrectly indented and right now contains comments that clarify for each added line why a specific variant was chosen. In the version that gets submitted upstream, the comments will be gone and I will manually fix the indentation, because there does not seem to be a way to do that using coccinelle. Some amount of new code is currently sitting in linux-next that should get the same modifications, which I will do at the end of the merge window. Many thanks to Julia Lawall for helping me learn to write a semantic patch that does all this. ===== begin semantic patch ===== // This adds an llseek= method to all file operations, // as a preparation for making no_llseek the default. // // The rules are // - use no_llseek explicitly if we do nonseekable_open // - use seq_lseek for sequential files // - use default_llseek if we know we access f_pos // - use noop_llseek if we know we don't access f_pos, // but we still want to allow users to call lseek // @ open1 exists @ identifier nested_open; @@ nested_open(...) { <+... nonseekable_open(...) ...+> } @ open exists@ identifier open_f; identifier i, f; identifier open1.nested_open; @@ int open_f(struct inode *i, struct file *f) { <+... * sparc: remove references to of_device and to_of_deviceGrant Likely2010-07-241-2/+2
| | | | | | | | of_device is just a #define alias to platform_device. This patch replaces all references to it with platform_device. Signed-off-by: Grant Likely <grant.likely@secretlab.ca> Acked-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* of/platform: remove all of_bus_type and of_platform_bus_type referencesGrant Likely2010-07-241-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Both of_bus_type and of_platform_bus_type are just #define aliases for the platform bus. This patch removes all references to them and switches to the of_register_platform_driver()/of_unregister_platform_driver() API for registering. Subsequent patches will convert each user of of_register_platform_driver() into plain platform_drivers without the of_platform_driver shim. At which point the of_register_platform_driver()/of_unregister_platform_driver() functions can be removed. Signed-off-by: Grant Likely <grant.likely@secretlab.ca> Acked-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* of: Remove duplicate fields from of_platform_driverGrant Likely2010-05-221-2/+5
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | .name, .match_table and .owner are duplicated in both of_platform_driver and device_driver. This patch is a removes the extra copies from struct of_platform_driver and converts all users to the device_driver members. This patch is a pretty mechanical change. The usage model doesn't change and if any drivers have been missed, or if anything has been fixed up incorrectly, then it will fail with a compile time error, and the fixup will be trivial. This patch looks big and scary because it touches so many files, but it should be pretty safe. * sparc: Remove BKL from apcThomas Gleixner2009-11-021-27/+10
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | commit ab772027 (sparc: arch/sparc/kernel/apc.c to unlocked_ioctl) added lock/unlock_kernel() to the apc ioctl code. The code needs no serialization at all. Neither put/get_user nor the read/write access to the sbus devices require it. Remove BKL. cycle_kernel_lock() was added during the big BKL pushdown. It should ensure the serializiation against driver init code. In this case there is nothing to serialize. Remove it as well. * sparc: correct section of apc_no_idleFrederic Weisbecker2008-10-221-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The latest mainline gives this section mismatch on sparc: The function __devinit apc_probe() references a variable __initdata apc_no_idle. If apc_no_idle is only used by apc_probe then annotate apc_no_idle with a matching annotation. Since the commit 7e7e2f035663c5ceb029bfb9d91e75099b0a5625, apc_probe() is on __devinit so we have to correct apc_no_idle which is referenced by this function. * [PATCH] mark struct file_operations const 2Arjan van de Ven2007-02-121-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | Many struct file_operations in the kernel can be "const". Marking them const moves these to the .rodata section, which avoids false sharing with potential dirty data. In addition it'll catch accidental writes at compile time to these shared resources. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
