* x86, cpu: mv display_cacheinfo -> cpu_detect_cache_sizesBorislav Petkov2009-11-231-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | display_cacheinfo() doesn't display anything anymore and it is used to detect CPU cache sizes. Rename it accordingly. Signed-off-by: Borislav Petkov <petkovbb@gmail.com> LKML-Reference: <20091121130145.GA31357@liondog.tnic> Signed-off-by: H. Peter Anvin <hpa@zytor.com>
* x86/cpu: Clean up various files a bitAlan Cox2009-07-111-7/+12
| | | | | | | | | | No code changes except printk levels (although some of the K6 mtrr code might be clearer if there were a few as would splitting out some of the intel cache code). * x86: move various CPU initialization objects into .cpuinit.rodataJan Beulich2009-03-121-8/+8
| | | | | | | | | | | | Impact: debuggability and micro-optimization Putting whatever is possible into the (final) .rodata section increases the likelihood of catching memory corruption bugs early, and reduces false cache line sharing. * x86: remove cpu_vendor_devYinghai Lu2008-09-041-2/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | 1. add c_x86_vendor into cpu_dev 2. change cpu_devs to static 3. check c_x86_vendor before put that cpu_dev into array 4. remove alignment for 64bit 5. order the sequence in cpu_devs according to link sequence... so could put intel at first, then amd... * x86: move mtrr cpu cap setting early in early_init_xxxxYinghai Lu2008-09-041-4/+28
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Krzysztof Helt found MTRR is not detected on k6-2 root cause: we moved mtrr_bp_init() early for mtrr trimming, and in early_detect we only read the CPU capability from cpuid, so some cpu doesn't have that bit in cpuid. So we need to add early_init_xxxx to preset those bit before mtrr_bp_init for those earlier cpus. this patch is for v2.6.27 Reported-by: Krzysztof Helt <krzysztof.h1@wp.pl> Signed-off-by: Yinghai Lu <yhlu.kernel@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu>

| * x86: fix "kernel won't boot on a Cyrix MediaGXm (Geode)"Samuel Sieb2008-08-201-18/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Cyrix MediaGXm/Cx5530 Unicorn Revision 1.19.3B has stopped booting starting at v2.6.22. The reason is this commit: > commit f25f64ed5bd3c2932493681bdfdb483ea707da0a > Author: Juergen Beisert <juergen@kreuzholzen.de> > Date: Sun Jul 22 11:12:38 2007 +0200 > > x86: Replace NSC/Cyrix specific chipset access macros by inlined functions. this commit activated a macro which was dormant before due to (buggy) macro side-effects. I've looked through various datasheets and found that the GXm and GXLV Geode processors don't have an incrementor. Remove the incrementor setup entirely. As the incrementor value differs according to clock speed and we would hope that the BIOS configures it correctly, it is probably the right solution. * x86: use ELF section to list CPU vendor specific codeThomas Petazzoni2008-04-171-11/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Replace the hardcoded list of initialization functions for each CPU vendor by a list in an ELF section, which is read at initialization in arch/x86/kernel/cpu/cpu.c to fill the cpu_devs[] array. The ELF section, named .x86cpuvendor.init, is reclaimed after boot, and contains entries of type "struct cpu_vendor_dev" which associates a vendor number with a pointer to a "struct cpu_dev" structure. This first modification allows to remove all the VENDOR_init_cpu() functions. This patch also removes the hardcoded calls to early_init_amd() and early_init_intel(). Instead, we add a "c_early_init" member to the cpu_dev structure, which is then called if not NULL by the generic CPU initialization code. Unfortunately, in early_cpu_detect(), this_cpu is not yet set, so we have to use the cpu_devs[] array directly. This patch is part of the Linux Tiny project, and is needed for further patch that will allow to disable compilation of unused CPU support code. * calibrate_delay() must be __cpuinitAdrian Bunk2008-02-061-2/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | calibrate_delay() must be __cpuinit, not __{dev,}init. I've verified that this is correct for all users. While doing the latter, I also did the following cleanups: - remove pointless additional prototypes in C files - ensure all users #include <linux/delay.h> This fixes the following section mismatches with CONFIG_HOTPLUG=n, CONFIG_HOTPLUG_CPU=y: WARNING: vmlinux.o(.text+0x1128d): Section mismatch: reference to .init.text.1:calibrate_delay (between 'check_cx686_slop' and 'set_cx86_reorder') WARNING: vmlinux.o(.text+0x25102): Section mismatch: reference to .init.text.1:calibrate_delay (between 'smp_callin' and 'cpu_coregroup_map') Signed-off-by: Adrian Bunk <bunk@kernel.org> Cc: Ivan Kokshaysky <ink@jurassic.park.msu.ru> Cc: Richard Henderson <rth@twiddle.net> Cc: "Luck, Tony" <tony.luck@intel.com> Cc: Ralf Baechle <ralf@linux-mips.org> Cc: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org> Cc: Benjamin Herrenschmidt <benh@kernel.crashing.org> Cc: "David S.
