* dma-mapping: merge <linux/dma-noncoherent.h> into <linux/dma-map-ops.h>Christoph Hellwig2020-10-061-1/+0
| | | | | | | Move more nitty gritty DMA implementation details into the common internal header. Signed-off-by: Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de>
* dma-mapping: merge <linux/dma-contiguous.h> into <linux/dma-map-ops.h>Christoph Hellwig2020-10-061-1/+1
| | | | | | | Merge dma-contiguous.h into dma-map-ops.h, after removing the comment describing the contiguous allocator into kernel/dma/contigous.c. Signed-off-by: Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de>
* dma-direct: make uncached_kernel_address more generalChristoph Hellwig2020-03-161-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | Rename the symbol to arch_dma_set_uncached, and pass a size to it as well as allow an error return. That will allow reusing this hook for in-place pagetable remapping. As the in-place remap doesn't always require an explicit cache flush, also detangle ARCH_HAS_DMA_PREP_COHERENT from ARCH_HAS_DMA_SET_UNCACHED. * dma-direct: remove the cached_kernel_address hookChristoph Hellwig2020-03-161-8/+2
| | | | | | | | | dma-direct now finds the kernel address for coherent allocations based on the dma address, so the cached_kernel_address hooks is unused and can be removed entirely. Signed-off-by: Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de> Reviewed-by: Robin Murphy <robin.murphy@arm.com>

* xtensa: use the generic uncached segment supportChristoph Hellwig2019-11-111-109/+12
| | | | | | | | | | | | Switch xtensa over to use the generic uncached support, and thus the generic implementations of dma_alloc_* and dma_alloc_*, which also gains support for mmaping DMA memory. The non-working nommu DMA support has been disabled, but could be re-enabled easily if platforms that actually have an uncached segment show up. * dma-mapping: always use VM_DMA_COHERENT for generic DMA remapChristoph Hellwig2019-09-041-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | Currently the generic dma remap allocator gets a vm_flags passed by the caller that is a little confusing. We just introduced a generic vmalloc-level flag to identify the dma coherent allocations, so use that everywhere and remove the now pointless argument. Signed-off-by: Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de>

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | DMA_ATTR_NO_KERNEL_MAPPING is generally implemented by allocating normal cacheable pages or CMA memory, and then returning the page pointer as the opaque handle. Lift that code from the xtensa and generic dma remapping implementations into the generic dma-direct code so that we don't even call arch_dma_alloc for these allocations. * | kernel/dma: remove unsupported gfp_mask parameter from ↵Marek Szyprowski2018-08-171-1/+1
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | dma_alloc_from_contiguous() The CMA memory allocator doesn't support standard gfp flags for memory allocation, so there is no point having it as a parameter for dma_alloc_from_contiguous() function. Replace it by a boolean no_warn argument, which covers all the underlaying cma_alloc() function supports. This will help to avoid giving false feeling that this function supports standard gfp flags and callers can pass __GFP_ZERO to get zeroed buffer, what has already been an issue: see commit dd65a941f6ba ("arm64: dma-mapping: clear buffers allocated with FORCE_CONTIGUOUS flag"). * dma-debug: move initialization to common codeChristoph Hellwig2018-05-081-9/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Most mainstream architectures are using 65536 entries, so lets stick to that. If someone is really desperate to override it that can still be done through <asm/dma-mapping.h>, but I'd rather see a really good rationale for that. dma_debug_init is now called as a core_initcall, which for many architectures means much earlier, and provides dma-debug functionality earlier in the boot process. This should be safe as it only relies on the memory allocator already being available. Thus the pointer can point to const data. However the attributes do not have to be a bitfield. Instead unsigned long will do fine: 1. This is just simpler. Both in terms of reading the code and setting attributes. Instead of initializing local attributes on the stack and passing pointer to it to dma_set_attr(), just set the bits. 2. It brings safeness and checking for const correctness because the attributes are passed by value. * include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking ↵Tejun Heo2010-03-301-0/+1

Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch. * [PATCH] xtensa: remove extra header filesChris Zankel2006-12-101-12/+32
| | | | | | | | | | | The Xtensa port contained many header files that were never needed. This rather lengthy patch removes all those files. Unfortunately, there were many dependencies that needed to be updated, so this patch touches quite a few source files.
