* [media] pwc: Fix lockingHans de Goede2012-05-143-153/+201
| | | | | | | | | | My last locking rework for pwc mistakenly assumed that videbuf2 does its own locking, but it does not! This patch fixes the missing locking by moving over the the video_device lock, and introducing a separate lock for the videobuf2_queue. * pwc: Add support for control eventsHans de Goede2012-04-091-0/+2
| | | | | | | | Since the pwc driver already uses v4l2-device, v4l2-fh, and the control framework, all that is needed is hooking up event subscription. Signed-off-by: Hans de Goede <hdegoede@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>
* [media] pwc: poll(): Check that the device has not beem claimed for ↵Hans de Goede2012-03-271-0/+9
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | streaming already Some apps which use read() start the streaming through a call to poll(), this means that if another app has already claimed the device for streaming (through for example a s_fmt, or a reqbufs), that the poll should fail instead of getting passed through to vb2_poll. We only check for this when the app is polling for reads, so that ctrl events still work. Signed-off-by: Hans de Goede <hdegoede@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>
* [media] v4l2: standardize log start/end messageHans Verkuil2012-02-141-9/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | For drivers that properly use the v4l2 framework (i.e. set v4l2_dev in the video_device struct), the start and end messages of VIDIOC_LOG_STATUS are now generated automatically. People tended to forget these, but the v4l2-ctl tool scans for these messages, and it also makes it easier to read the status output in the kernel log. The cx18, ivtv and bttv drivers were changed since they no longer need to log these start/end messages. In saa7164 two empty log_status functions were removed. Also added a helper function to v4l2-ctrl.c that can be used as the vidioc_log_status callback if all you need to do is to log the current control values. This is now used by pwc and vivi. * [media] pwc: Simplify leds parameter parsingHans de Goede2012-01-161-8/+2
| | | | | | | | This reduces our module init to a simple usb_register() call, so that we can make use of the new upcoming macro's for this. Signed-off-by: Hans de Goede <hdegoede@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>
* [media] pwc: Remove dev_hint module parameterHans de Goede2012-01-161-127/+2
| | | | | | | | | The code for this is rather crufty, and being able to tie a device to a specific minor is not really something we want to support in a modern udev based world. Signed-off-by: Hans de Goede <hdegoede@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>
* [media] pwc: Use one shared usb command bufferHans de Goede2012-01-168-118/+81
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The pwc driver used to: 1. kmalloc a buffer 2. memcpy data to send over usb there 3. do the usb_control_msg call (which does not work with data on the stack) 4. free the buffer For every usb command send. This patch changes the code to instead malloc a buffer for this purpose once and use it everywhere. * [media] pwc: Avoid sending mode info to the camera when it is not neededHans de Goede2012-01-164-19/+22
| | | | | | | | | Since we always do a set_video_mode on stream start, there is no need to actually send the mode info to the device on a s_fmt / s_parm ioctl. Not doing this saves us doing (slow) usb io. Signed-off-by: Hans de Goede <hdegoede@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>
* [media] pwc: Fix pixfmt handlingHans de Goede2012-01-165-32/+28
| | | | | | | | | | | Before this patch various code in the mode setting patch checked pdev->pixfmt, but that was not set until the mode setting succeeded, so it was looking at the old pixfmt! This patch fixes this by making the pixfmt a parameter to set_video_mode, and setting it from set_video_mode on success. * [media] pwc: Properly fill all fields on try_fmtHans de Goede2012-01-061-25/+17
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Before this patch the resulting values from a try_fmt were different then those from a s_fmt with the same parameters. try_fmt simply did not touch / fill some values like bytesperline at all. This patch also corrects bytesperline to the proper value for a planar format such as the YUV420P format the pwc driver produces, which is the bytesperline value for the biggest plane, rather then those of all planes added together. * [media] pwc: Remove software emulation of arbritary resolutionsHans de Goede2012-01-067-212/+92
| | | | | | | | | | The pwc driver claims to support any resolution between 160x120 and 640x480, but emulates this by simply drawing a black border around the image. Userspace can draw its own black border if it really wants one. Signed-off-by: Hans de Goede <hdegoede@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>

* [media] pwc: Remove dead snapshot codeHans de Goede2012-01-067-306/+57
| | | | | | | | | | The in kernel version of the pwc driver has never supported snapshot mode, and now that we no longer support the pixfmt.priv abuse there also no longer is a way for userspace to request it, rendering all the code in question dead (never called), so remove it. | | | | | | | | | | So that events get generated for the new red + blue bal values when switching to a preset. * [media] pwc: Rework lockingHans de Goede2012-01-066-82/+137
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | While testing gtk-v4l's new ctrl event code, I hit the following deadlock in the pwc driver: Thread 1: -Does a VIDIOC_G_CTRL -video2_ioctl takes the modlock -video2_ioctl calls v4l2_g_ctrl -v4l2_g_ctrl takes the ctrl_handler lock -v4l2_g_ctrl calls pwc_g_volatile_ctrl -pwc_g_volatile_ctrl releases the modlock as the usb transfer can take a significant amount of time and we don't want to block DQBUF / QBUF too long Thread 2: -Does a VIDIOC_FOO_CTRL -video2_ioctl takes the modlock -video2_ioctl calls v4l2_foo_ctrl -v4l2_foo_ctrl blocks while trying to take the ctrl_handler lock Thread 1: -Blocks while trying to re-take the modlock, as its caller will eventually unlock that Now we have thread 1 waiting for the modlock while holding the ctrl_handler lock and thread 2 waiting for the ctrl_handler lock while holding the modlock -> deadlock. Conclusion: 1) We cannot unlock modlock from pwc_s_ctrl / pwc_g_volatile_ctrl, but this can cause QBUF / DQBUF to block for up to a full second 2) After evaluating various option I came to the conclusion that pwc should stop using the v4l2 core locking, and instead do its own locking Thus this patch stops pwc using the v4l2 core locking, and replaces that with it doing its own locking where necessary. * | [media] media: vb2: change queue initialization orderMarek Szyprowski2011-09-061-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch changes the order of operations during stream on call. Now the buffers are first queued to the driver and then the start_streaming method is called. This resolves the most common case when the driver needs to know buffer addresses to enable dma engine and start streaming. Additional parameter to start_streaming method have been added to simplify drivers code. The driver are now obliged to check if the number of queued buffers is high enough to enable hardware streaming. If not - it can return an error. In such case all the buffers that have been pre-queued are invalidated. This patch also updates all videobuf2 clients to work properly with the changed order of operations. * [media] pwc: Replace private buffer management code with videobuf2Hans de Goede2011-07-277-808/+275
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Looking at the pwc buffer management code has made it clear to me it needed some serious fixing. Not only was there a ton of code duplication even internally to pwc (read and mmap wait for frame code was duplicated), the code also was outright buggy. With the worst offender being dqbuf, which just round robin returned all the mmap buffers, without paying any attention to them being queued by the app with qbuf or not. And qbuf itself was a noop. So I set out to fix this and already had some cleanups in place when I read Jonathan Corbet's lwn article on videobuf2, this inspired me to just rip out the buffer management code and replace it with videobuf2, greatly reducing the amount of code, and fixing all bugs in one go: Many thanks to Jonathan for the timely article on this !
