* cxgb3: Fix __must_check warning with dev_dbg.Dan Noe2008-04-171-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Fix the warning: drivers/net/cxgb3/cxgb3_main.c: In function ‘offload_open’: drivers/net/cxgb3/cxgb3_main.c:936: warning: ignoring return value of ‘sysfs_create_group’, declared with attribute warn_unused_result Now the return value is checked; if sysfs_create_group() returns failure, a warning is printed using dev_dbg, and the code continues as before. Use of dev_dbg ensures printk is not needlessly included unless desired for debugging. Signed-off-by: Dan Noe <dpn@isomerica.net> Signed-off-by: Jeff Garzik <jgarzik@redhat.com>

* [ETHTOOL] Provide default behaviors for a few ethtool sub-ioctlsJeff Garzik2007-10-101-3/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | For the operations get-tx-csum get-sg get-tso get-ufo the default ethtool_op_xxx behavior is fine for all drivers, so we permit op==NULL to imply the default behavior. This provides a more uniform behavior across all drivers, eliminating ethtool(8) "ioctl not supported" errors on older drivers that had not been updated for the latest sub-ioctls. The ethtool_op_xxx() functions are left exported, in case anyone wishes to call them directly from a driver-private implementation -- a not-uncommon case. Should an ethtool_op_xxx() helper remain unused for a while, except by net/core/ethtool.c, we can un-export it at a later date. * [NET]: Nuke SET_MODULE_OWNER macro.Ralf Baechle2007-10-101-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | It's been a useless no-op for long enough in 2.6 so I figured it's time to remove it. The number of people that could object because they're maintaining unified 2.4 and 2.6 drivers is probably rather small. * [NET]: Make NAPI polling independent of struct net_device objects.Stephen Hemminger2007-10-101-69/+27
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Several devices have multiple independant RX queues per net device, and some have a single interrupt doorbell for several queues. In either case, it's easier to support layouts like that if the structure representing the poll is independant from the net device itself. The signature of the ->poll() call back goes from: int foo_poll(struct net_device *dev, int *budget) to int foo_poll(struct napi_struct *napi, int budget) The caller is returned the number of RX packets processed (or the number of "NAPI credits" consumed if you want to get abstract). The callee no longer messes around bumping dev->quota, *budget, etc. because that is all handled in the caller upon return. The napi_struct is to be embedded in the device driver private data structures. Furthermore, it is the driver's responsibility to disable all NAPI instances in it's ->stop() device close handler. Since the napi_struct is privatized into the driver's private data structures, only the driver knows how to get at all of the napi_struct instances it may have per-device. With lots of help and suggestions from Rusty Russell, Roland Dreier, Michael Chan, Jeff Garzik, and Jamal Hadi Salim. Bug fixes from Thomas Graf, Roland Dreier, Peter Zijlstra, Joseph Fannin, Scott Wood, Hans J. Koch, and Michael Chan. [ Ported to current tree and all drivers converted. Integrated Stephen's follow-on kerneldoc additions, and restored poll_list handling to the old style to fix mutual exclusion issues. -DaveM ] Signed-off-by: Stephen Hemminger <shemminger@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: David S. * - cxgb3 engine microcode loadDivy Le Ray2007-08-311-45/+81
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Load the engine microcode when an interface is brought up, instead of of doing it when the module is loaded. Loosen up tight binding between the driver and the engine microcode version. There is no need for microcode update with T3A boards. Fix the file naming. Do a better job at logging the loading activity. Signed-off-by: Divy Le Ray <divy@chelsio.com> Signed-off-by: Jeff Garzik <jeff@garzik.org>
* cxgb3 - Fix dev->priv usageDivy Le Ray2007-08-311-54/+72
| | | | | | | | | | | | cxgb3 used netdev_priv() and dev->priv for different purposes. In 2.6.23, netdev_priv() == dev->priv, cxgb3 needs a fix. This patch is a partial backport of Dave Miller's changes in the net-2.6.24 git branch. Without this fix, cxgb3 crashes on 2.6.23. * [NET]: ethtool_perm_addr only has one implementationMatthew Wilcox2007-07-311-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | All drivers implement ethtool get_perm_addr the same way -- by calling the generic function. So we can inline the generic function into the caller and avoid going through the drivers. Signed-off-by: Matthew Wilcox <matthew@wil.cx> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

* cxgb3 - TP SRAM updateDivy Le Ray2007-07-081-0/+43
| | | | | | | | | | The chip executes microcode present in internal RAM, whose content is loaded from EEPROM on power cycle. This patch allows an update of the microcode through PIO without forcing a power cycle. Signed-off-by: Divy Le Ray <divy@chelsio.com> Signed-off-by: Jeff Garzik <jeff@garzik.org>

* network drivers: eliminate unneeded kill_vid codeStephen Hemminger2007-06-031-6/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | Many drivers had code that did kill_vid, but they weren't doing vlan filtering. With new API the stub is unneeded unless device sets NETIF_F_HW_VLAN_FILTER. Bad habit: I couldn't resist fixing a couple of nearby style things in acenic, and forcedeth.
