* b43: AC-PHY: prepare place for developing new PHY supportRafał Miłecki2015-01-291-1/+8
| | | | | | | | | There are new (not anymore?) Broadcom 802.11ac wireless cards based on chipsets like BCM4352 and BCM4360. They use a new PHY type (called simply AC) that will require new specific code. Signed-off-by: Rafał Miłecki <zajec5@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Kalle Valo <kvalo@codeaurora.org>
* b43: fix NULL pointer dereference in b43_phy_copy()Hauke Mehrtens2014-11-101-3/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | phy_read and phy_write are not set for every phy any more sine this: commit d342b95dd735014a590f9051b1ba227eb54ca8f6 Author: Rafał Miłecki <zajec5@gmail.com> Date: Thu Jul 31 21:59:43 2014 +0200 b43: don't duplicate common PHY read/write ops b43_phy_copy() accesses phy_read and phy_write directly and will fail with some phys. This patch fixes the regression by using the b43_phy_read() and b43_phy_write() functions which should be used for read and write access. This should fix this bug report: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=87731 Reported-by: Volker Kempter <v.kempter@pe.tu-clausthal.de> Tested-by: Volker Kempter <v.kempter@pe.tu-clausthal.de> Signed-off-by: Hauke Mehrtens <hauke@hauke-m.de> Signed-off-by: John W. * b43: flush some writes on Broadcom MIPS SoCsRafał Miłecki2014-08-251-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | Access to PHY and radio registers is indirect on Broadcom hardware and it seems that addressing on some MIPS SoCs may require flushing. So far this problem was noticed on 0x4716 SoC only (marketing names: BCM4717, BCM4718). Signed-off-by: Rafał Miłecki <zajec5@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
* b43: don't duplicate common PHY read/write opsRafał Miłecki2014-08-251-2/+12
| | | | | | | | | Most of the PHYs use the same way of accessing registers, so move that code to the shared place. An exception is G-PHY which sometimes access A-PHY regs and requires special handling. Signed-off-by: Rafał Miłecki <zajec5@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
* b43: update flushing many writes performed in a rowRafał Miłecki2014-08-251-3/+10
| | | | | | | | Flush radio writes as well and add some tiny optimizations (e.g. masksetting PHY reg involves reading it, so reset the counter). Signed-off-by: Rafał Miłecki <zajec5@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
* b43: add config for (en|dis)abling G-PHY supportRafał Miłecki2014-06-201-0/+2
| | | | | | | This allows new devices users to save some space. Signed-off-by: Rafał Miłecki <zajec5@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
* b43: remove leftover code from old devices supportRafał Miłecki2014-06-201-3/+0
| | | | | | | | Old devices (A-PHY or B-PHY) are supposed to be supported by b43legacy. We keep phy_a.c as it's needed for G-PHY which shares some design. Signed-off-by: Rafał Miłecki <zajec5@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>

* b43: drop B43_DEFAULT_CHANNELRafał Miłecki2014-06-191-3/+0
| | | | | | | | It was never used, b43_switch_channel is always called with hw_value (from mac80211) or whatever get_default_chan returns. Signed-off-by: Rafał Miłecki <zajec5@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
* b43: PHY: allow init optimizations by tracking PHY stateRafał Miłecki2014-05-291-0/+5
| | | | | | | | | PHY has to be often re-initialized (e.g. during band switching after PHY reset), however some operations have to be performed only once (only power reset affects them). Signed-off-by: Rafał Miłecki <zajec5@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
* b43: rework band switchingRafał Miłecki2014-05-191-0/+1

* b43: Use a threaded IRQ handlerMichael Buesch2009-09-081-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | Use a threaded IRQ handler to allow locking the mutex and sleeping while executing an interrupt. This removes usage of the irq_lock spinlock, but introduces a new hardirq_lock, which is _only_ used for the PCI/SSB lowlevel hard-irq handler. Sleeping busses (SDIO) will use mutex instead. * b43: Fix and update LP-PHY codeGábor Stefanik2009-08-281-6/+21
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | -Fix a few nasty typos (b43_phy_* operations instead of b43_radio_*) in the channel tune routines. -Fix some typos & spec errors found by MMIO tracing. -Optimize b43_phy_write & b43_phy_mask/set/maskset to use only the minimal number of MMIO accesses. (Write is possible using a single 32-bit MMIO write, while set/mask/maskset can be done in 3 16-bit MMIOs). -Set the default channel back to 1, as the bug forcing us to use channel 7 is now fixed. With this, the device comes up, scans, associates, transmits, receives, monitors and injects on all channels - in other words, it's fully functional. Sensitivity and TX power are still sub-optimal, due to the lack of calibration (that's next on my list). Signed-off-by: Gábor Stefanik <netrolller.3d@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: John W. * mac80211: redefine usage of the mac80211 workqueueLuis R. Rodriguez2009-08-041-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The mac80211 workqueue exists to enable mac80211 and drivers to queue their own work on a single threaded workqueue. mac80211 takes care to flush the workqueue during suspend but we never really had requirements on drivers for how they should use the workqueue in consideration for suspend. We extend mac80211 to document how the mac80211 workqueue should be used, how it should not be used and finally move raw access to the workqueue to mac80211 only. Drivers and mac80211 use helpers to queue work onto the mac80211 workqueue: * ieee80211_queue_work() * ieee80211_queue_delayed_work() These helpers will now warn if mac80211 already completed its suspend cycle and someone is trying to queue work. mac80211 flushes the mac80211 workqueue prior to suspend a few times, but we haven't taken the care to ensure drivers won't add more work after suspend. To help with this we add a warning when someone tries to add work and mac80211 already completed the suspend cycle. Drivers should ensure they cancel any work or delayed work in the mac80211 stop() callback. Signed-off-by: Luis R. Rodriguez <lrodriguez@atheros.com> Signed-off-by: John W. * rfkill: rewriteJohannes Berg2009-06-031-11/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch completely rewrites the rfkill core to address the following deficiencies: * all rfkill drivers need to implement polling where necessary rather than having one central implementation * updating the rfkill state cannot be done from arbitrary contexts, forcing drivers to use schedule_work and requiring lots of code * rfkill drivers need to keep track of soft/hard blocked internally -- the core should do this * the rfkill API has many unexpected quirks, for example being asymmetric wrt. alloc/free and register/unregister * rfkill can call back into a driver from within a function the driver called -- this is prone to deadlocks and generally should be avoided * rfkill-input pointlessly is a separate module * drivers need to #ifdef rfkill functions (unless they want to depend on or select RFKILL) -- rfkill should provide inlines that do nothing if it isn't compiled in * the rfkill structure is not opaque -- drivers need to initialise it correctly (lots of sanity checking code required) -- instead force drivers to pass the right variables to rfkill_alloc() * the documentation is hard to read because it always assumes the reader is completely clueless and contains way TOO MANY CAPS * the rfkill code needlessly uses a lot of locks and atomic operations in locked sections * fix LED trigger to actually change the LED when the radio state changes -- this wasn't done before Tested-by: Alan Jenkins <alan-jenkins@tuffmail.co.uk> Signed-off-by: Henrique de Moraes Holschuh <hmh@hmh.eng.br> [thinkpad] Signed-off-by: Johannes Berg <johannes@sipsolutions.net> Signed-off-by: John W. * b43: Do radio lock assertion in softwareMichael Buesch2009-04-161-4/+12
| | | | | | | | | | The assertion of the lock-bit in the hardware register is unreliable, because there are devices with quirks that will randomly set the bit. Do the assertion in software, only. Signed-off-by: Michael Buesch <mb@bu3sch.de> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
* b43: Suspend MAC while killing the radioMichael Buesch2008-12-191-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | We should suspend the MAC, before we kill the radio. This gives the MAC a chance to leave any TX/RX state and it avoids races on the PHY/RADIO registers. Signed-off-by: Michael Buesch <mb@bu3sch.de> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
* b43: Fix some MAC lockingMichael Buesch2008-12-191-0/+16
| | | | | | | | | This fixes some locking w.r.t. the lower MAC (firmware). It also removes a lot of ancient IRQ-locking that's not needed anymore. We simply suspend the MAC. That's easier and causes less trouble. Signed-off-by: Michael Buesch <mb@bu3sch.de> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
* mac80211: use nl80211 interface typesJohannes Berg2008-09-151-2/+2
