| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Due to several bugs caused by timers being re-armed after they are shutdown and just before they are freed, a new state of timers was added called "shutdown". After a timer is set to this state, then it can no longer be re-armed. The following script was run to find all the trivial locations where del_timer() or del_timer_sync() is called in the same function that the object holding the timer is freed. It also ignores any locations where the timer->function is modified between the del_timer*() and the free(), as that is not considered a "trivial" case. Replace zero-length array with flexible-array member. This results in no differences in binary output (most especially because struct pda_antenna_gain is unused). (Only an error message is printed if the value is non-zero that the error is ignored.) So change the prototype of the remove function to return no value. This way driver authors are not tempted to assume that passing an error to the upper layer is a good idea. All drivers are adapted accordingly. There is no intended change of behaviour, all callbacks were prepared to return 0 before. Use memset_after() so memset() doesn't get confused about writing beyond the destination member that is intended to be the starting point of zeroing through the end of the struct. Additionally fix the common helper, ieee80211_tx_info_clear_status(), which was not clearing ack_signal, but the open-coded versions did. Johannes Berg points out this bug was introduced by commit e3e1a0bcb3f1 ("mac80211: reduce IEEE80211_TX_MAX_RATES") but was harmless. Also drops the associated unneeded BUILD_BUG_ON()s, and adds a note to carl9170 about usage. Use struct_group() in struct hfa384x_tx_frame around members frame_control, duration_id, addr1, addr2, addr3, and seq_ctrl, so they can be referenced together. This will allow memcpy() and sizeof() to more easily reason about sizes, improve readability, and avoid future warnings about writing beyond the end of frame_control. "pahole" shows no size nor member offset changes to struct hfa384x_tx_frame. "objdump -d" shows no object code changes. This was discovered as part of a checkpatch evaluation, investigating all reports of checkpatch's WARNING:OBSOLETE check. p54 replaces prism54 so users should be unaffected. There was a one off chipset someone long ago reported that p54 didn't work with but the reporter never followed up on that. Additionally, distributions have been blacklisting prism54 for years now. This removes the last user of ezusb_req_ctx_wait() and can now be removed. Requests which have ->in_rid set expect an answer from the USB device and the function has to wait until the URB with the answer arrives. The function uses in_interrupt() to determine if it can simply sleep on the completion and be woken up once the answer arrives or if it needs to poll on the completion. The usage of in_interrupt() in drivers is phased out and Linus clearly requested that code which changes behaviour depending on context should either be separated or the context be conveyed in an argument passed by the caller, which usually knows the context. Aside of that in_interrupt() is not correct as it does not catch preempt disabled regions in which sleeping is also not allowed. Provide stubs which can be used as a replacement. The current default is the current behaviour which sleeps/polls depending on in_interrupt(). The goal is to audit all callers and use either the poll or sleep version. Convert mvpp2 to split PCS. - Support Marvell Prestera 98DX3255 24-port switch ASICs, as well as 7-port Mediatek MT7531 IP. - Add initial support for QCA6390 and IPQ6018 in ath11k WiFi driver, and wcn3680 support in wcn36xx. - Improve performance for packets which don't require much offloads on recent Mellanox NICs by 20% by making multiple packets share a descriptor entry. - Move chelsio inline crypto drivers (for TLS and IPsec) from the crypto subtree to drivers/net. Move MDIO drivers out of the phy directory. - Clean up a lot of W=1 warnings, reportedly the actively developed subsections of networking drivers should now build W=1 warning free. - Make sure drivers don't use in_interrupt() to dynamically adapt their code. The usage especially in driver code is deprecated and a tree wide effort to clean up and consolidate the (ab)usage of in_interrupt() and related checks is happening. hfa384x_cmd() and prism2_hw_reset() check in_interrupt() at function entry and if true emit a printk at debug loglevel and return. This is clearly debug code. Both functions invoke functions which can sleep. These functions already have appropriate debug checks which cover all invalid contexts, while in_interrupt() fails to detect context which just has preemption or interrupts disabled. Remove both checks as they are incomplete, debug only and already covered by the subsequently invoked functions properly. If called from invalid context the resulting back trace is definitely more helpful to analyze the problem than a printk at debug loglevel.
