* pps: hide more configuration symbols behind CONFIG_PPSFlorian Fainelli2013-04-301-2/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | Make CONFIG_PPS_DEBUG and CONFIG_NTP_PPS be hidden if CONFIG_PPS is not selected, so that we are not prompted for these configuration options if CONFIG_PPS is not set. * pps, ptp: Remove dependencies on EXPERIMENTALBen Hutchings2012-11-011-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | These are now established subsystems, and we want drivers to be able to select PPS and PTP_1588_CLOCK without depending on EXPERIMENTAL. Further, the use of EXPERIMENTAL is now deprecated in general. Signed-off-by: Ben Hutchings <bhutchings@solarflare.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

* pps: add parallel port PPS signal generatorAlexander Gordeev2011-01-131-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Add PPS signal generator which utilizes STROBE pin of a parallel port to send PPS signals. It uses parport abstraction layer and hrtimers to precisely control the signal. * ntp: add hardpps implementationAlexander Gordeev2011-01-131-0/+9
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This commit adds hardpps() implementation based upon the original one from the NTPv4 reference kernel code from David Mills. However, it is highly optimized towards very fast syncronization and maximum stickness to PPS signal. The typical error is less then a microsecond. To make it sync faster I had to throw away exponential phase filter so that the full phase offset is corrected immediately. Then I also had to throw away median phase filter because it gives a bigger error itself if used without exponential filter. Maybe we will find an appropriate filtering scheme in the future but it's not necessary if the signal quality is ok. * pps: LinuxPPS clients supportRodolfo Giometti2010-03-121-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Each PPS source can be registered/deregistered into the system by using special modules called "clients". They simply define the PPS sources' attributes and implement the time signal registration mechanism. This patch adds a special directory for such clients and adds a dummy client that can be useful to test system integrity on real systems. * LinuxPPS: core supportRodolfo Giometti2009-06-181-0/+33
This patch adds the kernel side of the PPS support currently named "LinuxPPS". PPS means "pulse per second" and a PPS source is just a device which provides a high precision signal each second so that an application can use it to adjust system clock time. Common use is the combination of the NTPD as userland program with a GPS receiver as PPS source to obtain a wallclock-time with sub-millisecond synchronisation to UTC. To obtain this goal the userland programs shoud use the PPS API specification (RFC 2783 - Pulse-Per-Second API for UNIX-like Operating Systems, Version 1.0) which in part is implemented by this patch. It provides a set of chars devices, one per PPS source, which can be used to get the time signal. The RFC's functions can be implemented by accessing to these char devices.
