* s390: add a few more SPDX identifiersMartin Schwidefsky2017-12-051-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | Add the correct SPDX license to a few more files under arch/s390 and drivers/s390 which have been missed to far. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. Signed-off-by: Martin Schwidefsky <schwidefsky@de.ibm.com>
* s390/vmcp: make use of contiguous memory allocatorHeiko Carstens2017-08-091-0/+11
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | If memory is fragmented it is unlikely that large order memory allocations succeed. This has been an issue with the vmcp device driver since a long time, since it requires large physical contiguous memory ares for large responses. To hopefully resolve this issue make use of the contiguous memory allocator (cma). This patch adds a vmcp specific vmcp cma area with a default size of 4MB. The size can be changed either via the VMCP_CMA_SIZE config option at compile time or with the "vmcp_cma" kernel parameter (e.g. "vmcp_cma=16m"). For any vmcp response buffers larger than 16k memory from the cma area will be allocated. If such an allocation fails, there is a fallback to the buddy allocator. * s390/sclp: add open for business supportJochen Schweflinghaus2015-11-271-0/+8
| | | | | | | | | | | | Provide a user space interface and an enhancement to the sclp device driver which allows to send an 'Open for Business' event from the operating system to the Support Element. The 'Open for Business' event is used to signal the Support Element that the operating system (or an application running on top of it) is up and running. * s390/sclp_cpi: remove sclp_cpi module in favor of sysfs interfaceHendrik Brueckner2015-11-271-13/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Since commit c05ffc4f2b20 ("[S390] sclp: sysfs interface for SCLP cpi"), which was made 2008 the user can specify a system and sysplex name through the /sys/firmware/cpi interface. In addition to sysplex and system name, the user can also override the system type and system version. Because the syfs interface is easier to use and allows the settings to be updated, the sclp_cpi module becomes obsolete and can be removed. * s390: remove 31 bit supportHeiko Carstens2015-03-251-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Remove the 31 bit support in order to reduce maintenance cost and effectively remove dead code. Since a couple of years there is no distribution left that comes with a 31 bit kernel. The 31 bit kernel also has been broken since more than a year before anybody noticed. In addition I added a removal warning to the kernel shown at ipl for 5 minutes: a960062e5826 ("s390: add 31 bit warning message") which let everybody know about the plan to remove 31 bit code. We didn't get any response. Given that the last 31 bit only machine was introduced in 1999 let's remove the code. Anybody with 31 bit user space code can still use the compat mode. * s390/sclp_async: add Kconfig option to specify the component idMartin Schwidefsky2014-11-281-0/+10
| | | | | | | | Allow to specify the Compoment ID for Call Home via the kernel configuration. This removes the need for distribution specific patch against the sclp_async.c source file. Signed-off-by: Martin Schwidefsky <schwidefsky@de.ibm.com>

| | | | | | | | | This driver is only usable on 64-bit s390 machines. Mark the Kconfig dependencies to that users on other architectures are not prompted for it. * tty: Added a CONFIG_TTY option to allow removal of TTYJoe Millenbach2013-01-181-4/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The option allows you to remove TTY and compile without errors. This saves space on systems that won't support TTY interfaces anyway. bloat-o-meter output is below. The bulk of this patch consists of Kconfig changes adding "depends on TTY" to various serial devices and similar drivers that require the TTY layer. Ideally, these dependencies would occur on a common intermediate symbol such as SERIO, but most drivers "select SERIO" rather than "depends on SERIO", and "select" does not respect dependencies. bloat-o-meter output comparing our previous minimal to new minimal by removing TTY. The list is filtered to not show removed entries with awk '$3 != "-"' as the list was very long. add/remove: 0/226 grow/shrink: 2/14 up/down: 6/-35356 (-35350) function old new delta chr_dev_init 166 170 +4 allow_signal 80 82 +2 static.__warned 143 142 -1 disallow_signal 63 62 -1 __set_special_pids 95 94 -1 unregister_console 126 121 -5 start_kernel 546 541 -5 register_console 593 588 -5 copy_from_user 45 40 -5 sys_setsid 128 120 -8 sys_vhangup 32 19 -13 do_exit 1543 1526 -17 bitmap_zero 60 40 -20 arch_local_irq_save 137 117 -20 release_task 674 652 -22 static.spin_unlock_irqrestore 308 260 -48 Signed-off-by: Joe Millenbach <jmillenbach@gmail.com> Reviewed-by: Jamey Sharp <jamey@minilop.net> Reviewed-by: Josh Triplett <josh@joshtriplett.org> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>

* [S390] Remove tape block device driver.Heiko Carstens2011-05-231-12/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Remove the tape block device driver. It's not of real use but has already created some confusion when users wanted to access tape devices and used the block device nodes instead of the character device nodes. Also remove the whole tape documentation since it's completely outdated and we have the device drivers book which is the place where everything is properly documented. * [S390] vmcp: disallow modular buildHeiko Carstens2010-05-171-2/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | Change the tristate Kbuild option into a bool option so that the module is either builtin or not available at all.
