* Detach sched.h from mm.hAlexey Dobriyan2007-05-2112-0/+12
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | First thing mm.h does is including sched.h solely for can_do_mlock() inline function which has "current" dereference inside. By dealing with can_do_mlock() mm.h can be detached from sched.h which is good. See below, why. This patch a) removes unconditional inclusion of sched.h from mm.h b) makes can_do_mlock() normal function in mm/mlock.c c) exports can_do_mlock() to not break compilation d) adds sched.h inclusions back to files that were getting it indirectly. e) adds less bloated headers to some files (asm/signal.h, jiffies.h) that were getting them indirectly Net result is: a) mm.h users would get less code to open, read, preprocess, parse, ... if they don't need sched.h b) sched.h stops being dependency for significant number of files: on x86_64 allmodconfig touching sched.h results in recompile of 4083 files, after patch it's only 3744 (-8.3%). Cross-compile tested on all arm defconfigs, all mips defconfigs, all powerpc defconfigs, alpha alpha-up arm i386 i386-up i386-defconfig i386-allnoconfig ia64 ia64-up m68k mips parisc parisc-up powerpc powerpc-up s390 s390-up sparc sparc-up sparc64 sparc64-up um-x86_64 x86_64 x86_64-up x86_64-defconfig x86_64-allnoconfig as well as my two usual configs. * AFS: Fix afs_prepare_write()David Howells2007-05-161-2/+1
| | | | | | | | | | afs_prepare_write() should not mark a page up to date if it only partially fills it in, in expectation of the caller filling in the rest prior to calling commit_write(). commit_write(), however, should mark the page up to date. * AFS: write back dirty data on unmountDavid Howells2007-05-161-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | Fix AFS to write back dirty on unmounting. This didn't happen because afs_super_ops.drop_inode was pointing to generic_delete_inode. Now this pointer is left set to NULL so that the default behaviour occurs instead. * AFS: fix a couple of problems with unlinking AFS filesDavid Howells2007-05-114-17/+31
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Fix a couple of problems with unlinking AFS files. (1) The parent directory wasn't being updated properly between unlink() and the following lookup(). It seems that, for some reason, invalidate_remote_inode() wasn't discarding the directory contents correctly, so this patch calls invalidate_inode_pages2() instead on non-regular files. (2) afs_vnode_deleted_remotely() should handle vnodes that don't have a source server recorded without oopsing. * AFS: fix interminable loop in afs_write_back_from_locked_page()David Howells2007-05-111-2/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Following bug was uncovered by compiling with '-W' flag: CC [M] fs/afs/write.o fs/afs/write.c: In function ‘afs_write_back_from_locked_page’: fs/afs/write.c:398: warning: comparison of unsigned expression >= 0 is always true Loop variable 'n' is unsigned, so wraps around happily as far as I can see. * AFS: further write support fixesDavid Howells2007-05-102-3/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Further fixes for AFS write support: (1) The afs_send_pages() outer loop must do an extra iteration if it ends with 'first == last' because 'last' is inclusive in the page set otherwise it fails to send the last page and complete the RxRPC op under some circumstances. (2) Similarly, the outer loop in afs_pages_written_back() must also do an extra iteration if it ends with 'first == last', otherwise it fails to clear PG_writeback on the last page under some circumstances. * AFS: write support fixesDavid Howells2007-05-103-17/+216
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | AFS write support fixes: (1) Support large files using the 64-bit file access operations if available on the server. (2) Use kmap_atomic() rather than kmap() in afs_prepare_page(). (3) Don't do stuff in afs_writepage() that's done by the caller. * AFS: implement basic file write supportDavid Howells2007-05-0911-27/+1483
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Implement support for writing to regular AFS files, including: (1) write (2) truncate (3) fsync, fdatasync (4) chmod, chown, chgrp, utime. AFS writeback attempts to batch writes into as chunks as large as it can manage up to the point that it writes back 65535 pages in one chunk or it meets a locked page. Furthermore, if a page has been written to using a particular key, then should another write to that page use some other key, the first write will be flushed before the second is allowed to take place. If the first write fails due to a security error, then the page will be scrapped and reread before the second write takes place. If a page is dirty and the callback on it is broken by the server, then the dirty data is not discarded (same behaviour as NFS). Shared-writable mappings are not supported by this patch. * AFS: AFS fixupsDavid Howells2007-05-0912-109/+121
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Make some miscellaneous changes to the AFS filesystem: (1) Assert RCU barriers on module exit to make sure RCU has finished with callbacks in this module. (2) Correctly handle the AFS server returning a zero-length read. (3) Split out data zapping calls into one function (afs_zap_data). (4) Rename some afs_file_*() functions to afs_*() where they apply to non-regular files too. (5) Be consistent about the presentation of volume ID:vnode ID in debugging output. * slab allocators: Remove SLAB_DEBUG_INITIAL flagChristoph Lameter2007-05-071-2/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | I have never seen a use of SLAB_DEBUG_INITIAL. It is only supported by SLAB. I think its purpose was to have a callback after an object has been freed to verify that the state is the constructor state again? The callback is performed before each freeing of an object. I would think that it is much easier to check the object state manually before the free. That also places the check near the code object manipulation of the object. Also the SLAB_DEBUG_INITIAL callback is only performed if the kernel was compiled with SLAB debugging on. If there would be code in a constructor handling SLAB_DEBUG_INITIAL then it would have to be conditional on SLAB_DEBUG otherwise it would just be dead code. But there is no such code in the kernel. I think SLUB_DEBUG_INITIAL is too problematic to make real use of, difficult to understand and there are easier ways to accomplish the same effect (i.e. add debug code before kfree). There is a related flag SLAB_CTOR_VERIFY that is frequently checked to be clear in fs inode caches. Remove the pointless checks (they would even be pointless without removeal of SLAB_DEBUG_INITIAL) from the fs constructors. This is the last slab flag that SLUB did not support. Remove the check for unimplemented flags from SLUB. * mm: make read_cache_page synchronousNick Piggin2007-05-072-10/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Ensure pages are uptodate after returning from read_cache_page, which allows us to cut out most of the filesystem-internal PageUptodate calls. I didn't have a great look down the call chains, but this appears to fixes 7 possible use-before uptodate in hfs, 2 in hfsplus, 1 in jfs, a few in ecryptfs, 1 in jffs2, and a possible cleared data overwritten with readpage in block2mtd. All depending on whether the filler is async and/or can return with a !uptodate page. * [NET]: Rework dev_base via list_head (v3)Pavel Emelianov2007-05-031-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | Cleanup of dev_base list use, with the aim to simplify making device list per-namespace. In almost every occasion, use of dev_base variable and dev->next pointer could be easily replaced by for_each_netdev loop. * [AFS]: Adjust the new netdevice scanning codeDavid Howells2007-05-033-7/+21
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Adjust the new netdevice scanning code provided by Patrick McHardy: (1) Restore the function banner comments that were dropped. (2) Rather than using an array size of 6 in some places and an array size of ETH_ALEN in others, pass a pointer instead and pass the array size through so that we can actually check it. (3) Do the buffer fill count check before checking the for_primary_ifa condition again. This permits us to skip that check should maxbufs be reached before we run out of interfaces. * [AFS/AF_RXRPC]: Miscellaneous fixes.David Howells2007-05-032-58/+45
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Make miscellaneous fixes to AFS and AF_RXRPC: (*) Make AF_RXRPC select KEYS rather than RXKAD or AFS_FS in Kconfig. (*) Don't use FS_BINARY_MOUNTDATA. (*) Remove a done 'TODO' item in a comemnt on afs_get_sb(). (*) Don't pass a void * as the page pointer argument of kmap_atomic() as this breaks on m68k. Patch from Geert Uytterhoeven <geert@linux-m68k.org>. (*) Use match_*() functions rather than doing my own parsing. Signed-off-by: David Howells <dhowells@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: David S. * [AF_RXRPC/AFS]: Arch-specific fixes.David Howells2007-04-273-3/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Fixes for various arch compilation problems: (*) Missing module exports. (*) Variable name collision when rxkad and af_rxrpc both built in (rxrpc_debug). * [AFS]: Eliminate cmpxchg() usage in vlocation code.David S. Miller2007-04-262-6/+16
| | | | | | | | | | | | | cmpxchg() is not available on every processor so can't be used in generic code. Replace with spinlock protection on the ->state changes, wakeups, and wait loops. * [AFS]: Fix u64 printing in debug logging.David S. Miller2007-04-263-3/+5
| | | | | | | Need 'unsigned long long' casts to quiet warnings on 64-bit platforms when using %ll on a u64. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* [AFS]: Add "directory write" support.David Howells2007-04-2614-268/+1778
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Add support for the create, link, symlink, unlink, mkdir, rmdir and rename VFS operations to the in-kernel AFS filesystem. Also: (1) Fix dentry and inode revalidation. d_revalidate should only look at state of the dentry. Revalidation of the contents of an inode pointed to by a dentry is now separate. (2) Fix afs_lookup() to hash negative dentries as well as positive ones. Signed-off-by: David Howells <dhowells@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* [AFS]: Implement the CB.InitCallBackState3 operation.David Howells2007-04-262-0/+47
| | | | | | | | | | Implement the CB.InitCallBackState3 operation for the fileserver to call. This reduces the amount of network traffic because if this op is aborted, the fileserver will then attempt an CB.InitCallBackState operation. * [AFS]: Add support for the CB.GetCapabilities operation.David Howells2007-04-267-0/+705
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Add support for the CB.GetCapabilities operation with which the fileserver can ask the client for the following information: (1) The list of network interfaces it has available as IPv4 address + netmask plus the MTUs. (2) The client's UUID. (3) The extended capabilities of the client, for which the only current one is unified error mapping (abort code interpretation). To support this, the patch adds the following routines to AFS: (1) A function to iterate through all the network interfaces using RTNETLINK to extract IPv4 addresses and MTUs. (2) A function to iterate through all the network interfaces using RTNETLINK to pull out the MAC address of the lowest index interface to use in UUID construction. * [AFS]: Add security support.David Howells2007-04-2618-238/+945
| | | | | | | | | | Add security support to the AFS filesystem. Kerberos IV tickets are added as RxRPC keys are added to the session keyring with the klog program. open() and other VFS operations then find this ticket with request_key() and either use it immediately (eg: mkdir, unlink) or attach it to a file descriptor (open). * [AFS]: Handle multiple mounts of an AFS superblock correctly.David Howells2007-04-261-10/+16
| | | | | | | | | | | | Handle multiple mounts of an AFS superblock correctly, checking to see whether the superblock is already initialised after calling sget() rather than just unconditionally stamping all over it. Also delete the "silent" parameter to afs_fill_super() as it's not used and can, in any case, be obtained from sb->s_flags. Signed-off-by: David Howells <dhowells@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: David S. * [PATCH] remove many unneeded #includes of sched.hTim Schmielau2007-02-147-7/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | After Al Viro (finally) succeeded in removing the sched.h #include in module.h recently, it makes sense again to remove other superfluous sched.h includes. There are quite a lot of files which include it but don't actually need anything defined in there. Presumably these includes were once needed for macros that used to live in sched.h, but moved to other header files in the course of cleaning it up. To ease the pain, this time I did not fiddle with any header files and only removed #includes from .c-files, which tend to cause less trouble. Compile tested against 2.6.20-rc2 and 2.6.20-rc2-mm2 (with offsets) on alpha, arm, i386, ia64, mips, powerpc, and x86_64 with allnoconfig, defconfig, allmodconfig, and allyesconfig as well as a few randconfigs on x86_64 and all configs in arch/arm/configs on arm. I also checked that no new warnings were introduced by the patch (actually, some warnings are removed that were emitted by unnecessarily included header files). * [PATCH] VFS: Make filldir_t and struct kstat deal in 64-bit inode numbersDavid Howells2006-10-031-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | These patches make the kernel pass 64-bit inode numbers internally when communicating to userspace, even on a 32-bit system. They are required because some filesystems have intrinsic 64-bit inode numbers: NFS3+ and XFS for example. The 64-bit inode numbers are then propagated to userspace automatically where the arch supports it. Problems have been seen with userspace (eg: ld.so) using the 64-bit inode number returned by stat64() or getdents64() to differentiate files, and failing because the 64-bit inode number space was compressed to 32-bits, and so overlaps occur. This patch: Make filldir_t take a 64-bit inode number and struct kstat carry a 64-bit inode number so that 64-bit inode numbers can be passed back to userspace. The stat functions then returns the full 64-bit inode number where available and where possible. If it is not possible to represent the inode number supplied by the filesystem in the field provided by userspace, then error EOVERFLOW will be issued. Similarly, the getdents/readdir functions now pass the full 64-bit inode number to userspace where possible, returning EOVERFLOW instead when a directory entry is encountered that can't be properly represented. Note that this means that some inodes will not be stat'able on a 32-bit system with old libraries where they were before - but it does mean that there will be no ambiguity over what a 32-bit inode number refers to. Note similarly that directory scans may be cut short with an error on a 32-bit system with old libraries where the scan would work before for the same reasons. It is judged unlikely that this situation will occur because modern glibc uses 64-bit capable versions of stat and getdents class functions exclusively, and that older systems are unlikely to encounter unrepresentable inode numbers anyway. * [PATCH] afs: add lock annotations to afs_proc_cell_servers_{start,stop}Josh Triplett2006-09-291-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | afs_proc_cell_servers_start acquires a lock, and afs_proc_cell_servers_stop releases that lock. Add lock annotations to these two functions so that sparse can check callers for lock pairing, and so that sparse will not complain about these functions since they intentionally use locks in this manner. * [PATCH] inode-diet: Eliminate i_blksize from the inode structureTheodore Ts'o2006-09-271-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This eliminates the i_blksize field from struct inode. Filesystems that want to provide a per-inode st_blksize can do so by providing their own getattr routine instead of using the generic_fillattr() function. Note that some filesystems were providing pretty much random (and incorrect) values for i_blksize.
