* Don't pass inode to ->d_hash() and ->d_compare()Linus Torvalds2013-06-291-5/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | Instances either don't look at it at all (the majority of cases) or only want it to find the superblock (which can be had as dentry->d_sb). A few cases that want more are actually safe with dentry->d_inode - the only precaution needed is the check that it hadn't been replaced with NULL by rmdir() or by overwriting rename(), which case should be simply treated as cache miss. * hfs/hfsplus: convert printks to pr_<level>Joe Perches2013-04-301-8/+14
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Use a more current logging style. Add #define pr_fmt(fmt) KBUILD_MODNAME ": " fmt hfsplus now uses "hfsplus: " for all messages. Coalesce formats. Prefix debugging messages too. * hfs/hfsplus: convert dprint to hfs_dbgJoe Perches2013-04-301-2/+12
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Use a more current logging style. Rename macro and uses. Add do {} while (0) to macro. Add DBG_ to macro. Add and use hfs_dbg_cont variant where appropriate. * hfs: add error checking for hfs_find_init()Alexey Khoroshilov2013-04-301-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | hfs_find_init() may fail with ENOMEM, but there are places, where the returned value is not checked. The consequences can be very unpleasant, e.g. kfree uninitialized pointer and inappropriate mutex unlocking. The patch adds checks for errors in hfs_find_init(). * hfs: get rid of hfs_sync_superArtem Bityutskiy2012-07-221-1/+8
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch makes hfs stop using the VFS '->write_super()' method along with the 's_dirt' superblock flag, because they are on their way out. The whole "superblock write-out" VFS infrastructure is served by the 'sync_supers()' kernel thread, which wakes up every 5 (by default) seconds and writes out all dirty superblocks using the '->write_super()' call-back. But the problem with this thread is that it wastes power by waking up the system every 5 seconds, even if there are no diry superblocks, or there are no client file-systems which would need this (e.g., btrfs does not use '->write_super()'). So we want to kill it completely and thus, we need to make file-systems to stop using the '->write_super()' VFS service, and then remove it together with the kernel thread. Tested using fsstress from the LTP project. Signed-off-by: Artem Bityutskiy <artem.bityutskiy@linux.intel.com> Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>
* hfs: introduce VFS superblock object back-referenceArtem Bityutskiy2012-07-221-5/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | Add an 'sb' VFS superblock back-reference to the 'struct hfs_sb_info' data structure - we will need to find the VFS superblock from a 'struct hfs_sb_info' object in the next patch, so this change is jut a preparation. Remove few useless newlines while on it. Signed-off-by: Artem Bityutskiy <artem.bityutskiy@linux.intel.com> Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>

* fs: change d_hash for rcu-walkNick Piggin2011-01-071-1/+2
| | | | | | | | | Change d_hash so it may be called from lock-free RCU lookups. See similar patch for d_compare for details. For in-tree filesystems, this is just a mechanical change. Signed-off-by: Nick Piggin <npiggin@kernel.dk>
* fs: change d_compare for rcu-walkNick Piggin2011-01-071-1/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Change d_compare so it may be called from lock-free RCU lookups. This does put significant restrictions on what may be done from the callback, however there don't seem to have been any problems with in-tree fses. If some strange use case pops up that _really_ cannot cope with the rcu-walk rules, we can just add new rcu-unaware callbacks, which would cause name lookup to drop out of rcu-walk mode. For in-tree filesystems, this is just a mechanical change. Signed-off-by: Nick Piggin <npiggin@kernel.dk>

* pass writeback_control to ->write_inodeChristoph Hellwig2010-03-051-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | This gives the filesystem more information about the writeback that is happening. * [PATCH] mark struct inode_operations const 2Arjan van de Ven2007-02-121-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | Many struct inode_operations in the kernel can be "const". Marking them const moves these to the .rodata section, which avoids false sharing with potential dirty data. In addition it'll catch accidental writes at compile time to these shared resources. * [PATCH] Make most file operations structs in fs/ constArjan van de Ven2006-03-281-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | This is a conversion to make the various file_operations structs in fs/ const. Basically a regexp job, with a few manual fixups The goal is both to increase correctness (harder to accidentally write to shared datastructures) and reducing the false sharing of cachelines with things that get dirty in .data (while .rodata is nicely read only and thus cache clean) Signed-off-by: Arjan van de Ven <arjan@infradead.org> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>

* [PATCH] changing CONFIG_LOCALVERSION rebuilds too much, for no good reasonOlaf Hering2005-11-091-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch removes almost all inclusions of linux/version.h. The 3 #defines are unused in most of the touched files. A few drivers use the simple KERNEL_VERSION(a,b,c) macro, which is unfortunatly in linux/version.h. There are also lots of #ifdef for long obsolete kernels, this was not touched. In a few places, the linux/version.h include was move to where the LINUX_VERSION_CODE was used. quilt vi `find * -type f -name "*.[ch]"|xargs grep -El '(UTS_RELEASE|LINUX_VERSION_CODE|KERNEL_VERSION|linux/version.h)'|grep -Ev '(/(boot|coda|drm)/|~$)'` search pattern: /UTS_RELEASE\|LINUX_VERSION_CODE\|KERNEL_VERSION\|linux\/\(utsname\|version\).h Signed-off-by: Olaf Hering <olh@suse.de> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
* [PATCH] hfs: NLS supportRoman Zippel2005-09-071-3/+5
| | | | | | | | | | This adds NLS support to HFS. Using the kernel options iocharset and codepage it's possible to map the disk encoding to a local mapping. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
