* hostfs: support rename flagsMiklos Szeredi2014-08-073-10/+49
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Support RENAME_NOREPLACE and RENAME_EXCHANGE flags on hostfs if the underlying filesystem supports it. Since renameat2(2) is not yet in any libc, use syscall(2) to invoke the renameat2 syscall. * mm + fs: store shadow entries in page cacheJohannes Weiner2014-04-031-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Reclaim will be leaving shadow entries in the page cache radix tree upon evicting the real page. As those pages are found from the LRU, an iput() can lead to the inode being freed concurrently. At this point, reclaim must no longer install shadow pages because the inode freeing code needs to ensure the page tree is really empty. Add an address_space flag, AS_EXITING, that the inode freeing code sets under the tree lock before doing the final truncate. Reclaim will check for this flag before installing shadow pages. When I added the new style module aliases to the filesystems I deleted the old ones. A bad move. It turns out that distributions like Arch linux use module aliases when constructing ramdisks. Which meant ultimately that an ext3 filesystem mounted with ext4 would not result in the ext4 module being put into the ramdisk. The other change in this tree adds a handful of filesystem module alias I simply failed to add the first time. Which inconvinienced a few folks using cifs. * fs: push i_mutex and filemap_write_and_wait down into ->fsync() handlersJosef Bacik2011-07-201-2/+13
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Btrfs needs to be able to control how filemap_write_and_wait_range() is called in fsync to make it less of a painful operation, so push down taking i_mutex and the calling of filemap_write_and_wait() down into the ->fsync() handlers. Some file systems can drop taking the i_mutex altogether it seems, like ext3 and ocfs2. For correctness sake I just pushed everything down in all cases to make sure that we keep the current behavior the same for everybody, and then each individual fs maintainer can make up their mind about what to do from there. * fs: dcache reduce branches in lookup pathNick Piggin2011-01-071-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Reduce some branches and memory accesses in dcache lookup by adding dentry flags to indicate common d_ops are set, rather than having to check them. This saves a pointer memory access (dentry->d_op) in common path lookup situations, and saves another pointer load and branch in cases where we have d_op but not the particular operation. Patched with: git grep -E '[.>]([[:space:]])*d_op([[:space:]])*=' | xargs sed -e 's/\([^\t ]*\)->d_op = \(.*\);/d_set_d_op(\1, \2);/' -e 's/\([^\t ]*\)\.d_op = \(.*\);/d_set_d_op(\&\1, \2);/' -i Signed-off-by: Nick Piggin <npiggin@kernel.dk>
* fs: icache RCU free inodesNick Piggin2011-01-071-1/+8
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | RCU free the struct inode. This will allow: - Subsequent store-free path walking patch. The inode must be consulted for permissions when walking, so an RCU inode reference is a must. - sb_inode_list_lock to be moved inside i_lock because sb list walkers who want to take i_lock no longer need to take sb_inode_list_lock to walk the list in the first place. This will simplify and optimize locking. - Could remove some nested trylock loops in dcache code - Could potentially simplify things a bit in VM land. Do not need to take the page lock to follow page->mapping. The downsides of this is the performance cost of using RCU. In a simple creat/unlink microbenchmark, performance drops by about 10% due to inability to reuse cache-hot slab objects. As iterations increase and RCU freeing starts kicking over, this increases to about 20%. In cases where inode lifetimes are longer (ie. many inodes may be allocated during the average life span of a single inode), a lot of this cache reuse is not applicable, so the regression caused by this patch is smaller. The cache-hot regression could largely be avoided by using SLAB_DESTROY_BY_RCU, however this adds some complexity to list walking and store-free path walking, so I prefer to implement this at a later date, if it is shown to be a win in real situations. I haven't found a regression in any non-micro benchmark so I doubt it will be a problem. Signed-off-by: Nick Piggin <npiggin@kernel.dk>
* hostfs: simplify lockingNick Piggin2011-01-071-14/+10
| | | | | | | | | | Remove dcache_lock locking from hostfs filesystem, and move it into dcache helpers. All that is required is a coherent path name. Protection from concurrent modification of the namespace after path name generation is not provided in current code, because dcache_lock is dropped before the path is used. * fs: change d_delete semanticsNick Piggin2011-01-071-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | Change d_delete from a dentry deletion notification to a dentry caching advise, more like ->drop_inode. Require it to be constant and idempotent, and not take d_lock. This is how all existing filesystems use the callback anyway. This makes fine grained dentry locking of dput and dentry lru scanning much simpler. Signed-off-by: Nick Piggin <npiggin@kernel.dk>
