Add functions to refcount the status interrupt URB submit/kill operation so that sub-drivers and the generic driver don't fight over whether the status interrupt URB is active or not. A sub-driver can call usbnet_status_start() at any time, but the URB is only submitted the first time the function is called. Likewise, when the sub-driver is done with the URB, it calls usbnet_status_stop() but the URB is only killed when all users have stopped it. The URB is still killed and re-submitted for suspend/resume, as before, with the same refcount it had at suspend. Advantages: (1) reduces storage overhead when using file-systems like UBIFS, which store LEB header at page-size granularity. (2) allows independent subpage writes, thereby increasing NAND storage efficiency for non-page aligned data. + updated cafe_nand and lpc32xx_mlc NAND drivers for change in chip->write_page interface. Take some Toshiba's nand chips for example. I have 4 Toshiba's nand chips in my hand: TC58NVG2S0F, TC58NVG3S0F, TC58NVG5D2, TC58NVG6D2 When we read these chips' datasheets, we will get the geometry of these chips: TC58NVG2S0F : 4096 + 224 TC58NVG3S0F : 4096 + 232 TC58NVG5D2 : 8192 + 640 TC58NVG6D2 : 8192 + 640 But we can not parse out the correct oob size for these chips from the id data. This patch adds some new fields to the nand_flash_dev{}: @id_len: the valid length of the id data. See the comments in nand_id_has_period() @oobsize: the oob size. However, the newest flashes use the same device ID for chips with identical page and eraseblock sizes, but different OOB sizes. And unfortunately, it is not clear if there is a "standard" way to fetch the OOB size from chip's full ID array. Here is an example: Toshiba TC58NVG2S0F: 0x98, 0xdc, 0x90, 0x26, 0x76, 0x15, 0x01, 0x08 Toshiba TC58NVG3S0F: 0x98, 0xd3, 0x90, 0x26, 0x76, 0x15, 0x02, 0x08 The first one is a 512MiB NAND chip with 4KiB NAND pages, 256KiB eraseblock size and 224 bytes OOB. The second one is a 1GiB NAND chip with the same page and eraseblock sizes, but with 232 bytes OOB. This means that we have to store full ID in our NAND flashes table in order to distinguish between these 2. This patch adds the 'id[8]' field to the 'struct nand_flash_dev' structure, and it makes it to be a part of anonymous union, where the second member is a structure containing the 'mfr_id' and 'dev_id' bytes. The union makes sure that 'mfr_id' refers the same RAM address as 'id[0]' and 'dev_id' refers the same RAM address as 'id[1]'. The only motivation for the union is an assumption that 'type->dev_id' is more readable than 'type->id[1]'. It looks like AG-AND was not really make it to mass-production and can be considered a dead technology. Along with the AG-AND support, this patch removes the BBT_AUTO_REFRESH feature, because the only user of this feature is AG-AND. And even though it is implemented as a generic feature, I prefer to remove it because NAND flashes do not really need it in this form. If of_dma_controller_free() is called for a controller who's reference count is not zero it will return -EBUSY and not remove the controller. This is fine up until here, but leaves the question what the caller of of_dma_controller_free() is supposed to do if the controller couldn't be freed. The only viable solution for the caller is to spin on of_dma_controller_free() until it returns success. E.g. do { ret = of_dma_controller_free(dev->of_node) } while (ret != -EBUSY); This is rather ugly and unnecessary and none of the current users of of_dma_controller_free() check it's return value anyway. Instead protect the list by a mutex. The mutex will be held as long as a request operation is in progress. So if of_dma_controller_free() is called while a request operation is in progress it will be put to sleep and only wake up once the request operation has finished. This means that it is no longer possible to register or unregister OF DMA controllers from a context where it's not possible to sleep. But I doubt that we'll ever need this. Also rename of_dma_get_controller back to of_dma_find_controller. In similar fashion to the DT case (commit aa3da644 "of: Add generic device tree DMA helpers") we introduce helpers to the DMAC drivers which are enumerated by ACPI. The proposed extension provides the following API calls: acpi_dma_controller_register(), devm_acpi_dma_controller_register() acpi_dma_controller_free(), devm_acpi_dma_controller_free() acpi_dma_simple_xlate() acpi_dma_request_slave_chan_by_index() acpi_dma_request_slave_chan_by_name() The first two should be used, for example, at probe() and remove() of the corresponding DMAC driver. At the register stage the DMAC driver supplies a custom xlate() function to translate a struct dma_spec into struct dma_chan. Accordingly to the ACPI Fixed DMA resource specification the only two pieces of information the slave device has are the channel id and the request line (slave id). Those two are represented by struct dma_spec. The acpi_dma_request_slave_chan_by_index() provides access to the specifix FixedDMA resource by its index. Whereas dma_request_slave_channel() takes a string parameter to identify the DMA resources required by the slave device. To make a slave device driver work with both DeviceTree and ACPI enumeration a simple convention is established: "tx" corresponds to the index 0 and "rx" to the index 1. In case of robust configuration the slave device driver unfortunately needs to call acpi_dma_request_slave_chan_by_index() directly. Additionally the patch provides "managed" version of the register/free pair i.e. devm_acpi_dma_controller_register() and devm_acpi_dma_controller_free(). Usually, the driver uses only devm_acpi_dma_controller_register(). This fixes a regression that thermal core does not work if it is built as module, since 3.7. I'll backport them to stable kernel once those changes are in upstream. The largest batch is the thermal kernel-doc & coding style updates/cleanups from Eduardo. Highlights: - build all thermal framework code into one module to fix a regression that thermal does not work if it is built as module. - Marvell Armada 370/XP thermal sensor driver - thermal core/cpu cooling kernel-doc & coding style updates and cleanups. - Add Eduardo Valentin as thermal sub-maintainer, both in mailing list and patchwork. It will perform a zone name lookup and return a reference to a thermal zone device that matches the name requested. In case the zone is not found or when several zones match same name or if the required parameters are invalid, it will return the corresponding error code (ERR_PTR). Because the generic thermal layer can not work without thermal governors, and it must load the thermal governors during its initialization. Build them into one module in this patch.
