* [PKTGEN]: Introduce sequential flowsJamal Hadi Salim2007-07-101-8/+52
| | | | | | | | | | | By default all flows in pktgen are randomly selected. This patch introduces ability to have all defined flows to be sent sequentially. Robert defined randomness to be the default behavior. Signed-off-by: Jamal Hadi Salim <hadi@cyberus.ca> Signed-off-by: Robert Olsson <robert.olsson@its.uu.se> Signed-off-by: David S. * [CORE] Stack changes to add multiqueue hardware support APIPeter P Waskiewicz Jr2007-07-101-3/+7
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Add the multiqueue hardware device support API to the core network stack. Allow drivers to allocate multiple queues and manage them at the netdev level if they choose to do so. Added a new field to sk_buff, namely queue_mapping, for drivers to know which tx_ring to select based on OS classification of the flow. * header cleaning: don't include smp_lock.h when not usedRandy Dunlap2007-05-081-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | Remove includes of <linux/smp_lock.h> where it is not used/needed. Suggested by Al Viro. Builds cleanly on x86_64, i386, alpha, ia64, powerpc, sparc, sparc64, and arm (all 59 defconfigs). * [NET]: cleanup extra semicolonsStephen Hemminger2007-04-251-3/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | Spring cleaning time... There seems to be a lot of places in the network code that have extra bogus semicolons after conditionals. Most commonly is a bogus semicolon after: switch() { } Signed-off-by: Stephen Hemminger <shemminger@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* [SK_BUFF]: Convert skb->tail to sk_buff_data_tArnaldo Carvalho de Melo2007-04-251-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | So that it is also an offset from skb->head, reduces its size from 8 to 4 bytes on 64bit architectures, allowing us to combine the 4 bytes hole left by the layer headers conversion, reducing struct sk_buff size to 256 bytes, i.e. 4 64byte cachelines, and since the sk_buff slab cache is SLAB_HWCACHE_ALIGN... :-) Many calculations that previously required that skb->{transport,network, mac}_header be first converted to a pointer now can be done directly, being meaningful as offsets or pointers. * [SK_BUFF]: unions of just one member don't get anything done, kill themArnaldo Carvalho de Melo2007-04-251-8/+8
| | | | | | | | | Renaming skb->h to skb->transport_header, skb->nh to skb->network_header and skb->mac to skb->mac_header, to match the names of the associated helpers (skb[_[re]set]_{transport,network,mac}_header). * [SK_BUFF]: Introduce ipv6_hdr(), remove skb->nh.ipv6hArnaldo Carvalho de Melo2007-04-251-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | Now the skb->nh union has just one member, .raw, i.e. it is just like the skb->mac union, strange, no? I'm just leaving it like that till the transport layer is done with, when we'll rename skb->mac.raw to skb->mac_header (or ->mac_header_offset?), ditto for ->{h,nh}. * [PATCH] mark struct file_operations const 7Arjan van de Ven2007-02-121-3/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | Many struct file_operations in the kernel can be "const". Marking them const moves these to the .rodata section, which avoids false sharing with potential dirty data. In addition it'll catch accidental writes at compile time to these shared resources. * [NET]: Add netif_tx_lockHerbert Xu2006-06-171-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Various drivers use xmit_lock internally to synchronise with their transmission routines. They do so without setting xmit_lock_owner. This is fine as long as netpoll is not in use. With netpoll it is possible for deadlocks to occur if xmit_lock_owner isn't set. This is because if a printk occurs while xmit_lock is held and xmit_lock_owner is not set can cause netpoll to attempt to take xmit_lock recursively. While it is possible to resolve this by getting netpoll to use trylock, it is suboptimal because netpoll's sole objective is to maximise the chance of getting the printk out on the wire. So delaying or dropping the message is to be avoided as much as possible. So the only alternative is to always set xmit_lock_owner. The following patch does this by introducing the netif_tx_lock family of functions that take care of setting/unsetting xmit_lock_owner. I renamed xmit_lock to _xmit_lock to indicate that it should not be used directly. I didn't provide irq versions of the netif_tx_lock functions since xmit_lock is meant to be a BH-disabling lock. This is pretty much a straight text substitution except for a small bug fix in winbond. It currently uses netif_stop_queue/spin_unlock_wait to stop transmission. This is unsafe as an IRQ can potentially wake up the queue. So it is safer to use netif_tx_disable. The hamradio bits used spin_lock_irq but it is unnecessary as xmit_lock must never be taken in an IRQ handler. Signed-off-by: Herbert Xu <herbert@gondor.apana.org.au> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

* [PKTGEN]: Removes thread_{un,}lock() macros.Luiz Capitulino2006-03-201-25/+21
| | | | | | | | | | | | As suggested by Arnaldo, this patch replaces the thread_lock()/thread_unlock() by directly calls to mutex_lock()/mutex_unlock(). This change makes the code a bit more readable, and the direct calls are used everywhere in the kernel. Signed-off-by: Luiz Capitulino <lcapitulino@mandriva.com.br> Signed-off-by: David S. * [PKTGEN]: Ports if_list to the in-kernel implementation.Luiz Capitulino2006-03-201-48/+44
| | | | | | | | | This patch ports the per-thread interface list list to the in-kernel linked list implementation. In the general, the resulting code is a bit simpler. Signed-off-by: Luiz Capitulino <lcapitulino@mandriva.com.br> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* [PKTGEN]: Fix Initialization fail leak.Luiz Capitulino2006-03-201-1/+14
| | | | | | | | | | | | Even if pktgen's thread initialization fails for all CPUs, the module will be successfully loaded. This patch changes that behaivor, by returning an error on module load time, and also freeing all the resources allocated. It also prints a warning if a thread initialization has failed. * [PKTGEN]: Ports thread list to Kernel list implementation.Luiz Capitulino2006-03-201-55/+41
| | | | | | | | | | | The final result is a simpler and smaller code. Note that I'm adding a new member in the struct pktgen_thread called 'removed'. * [NET] pktgen: Fix races between control/worker threads.Arthur Kepner2006-03-201-25/+110
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | There's a race in pktgen which can lead to a double free of a pktgen_dev's skb. If a worker thread is in the midst of doing fill_packet(), and the controlling thread gets a "stop" message, the already freed skb can be freed once again in pktgen_stop_device(). This patch gives all responsibility for cleaning up a pktgen_dev's skb to the associated worker thread. * [PKTGEN]: Deinitialise static variables.Jaco Kroon2006-01-031-3/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | static variables should not be explicitly initialised to 0. This causes them to be placed in .data instead of .bss. This patch de-initialises 3 static variables in net/core/pktgen.c. There are approximately 800 more such variables in the source tree (2.6.15rc5). If there is more interrest I'd be willing to track down the rest of these as well and de-initialise them as well. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* [PKTGEN]: proc interface revisionStephen Hemminger2005-10-261-257/+215
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The code to handle the /proc interface can be cleaned up in several places: * use seq_file for read * don't need to remember all the filenames separately * use for_online_cpu's * don't vmalloc a buffer for small command from user. * [NET]: Wider use of for_each_*cpu()John Hawkes2005-10-251-4/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | In 'net' change the explicit use of for-loops and NR_CPUS into the general for_each_cpu() or for_each_online_cpu() constructs, as appropriate. This widens the scope of potential future optimizations of the general constructs, as well as takes advantage of the existing optimizations of first_cpu() and next_cpu(), which is advantageous when the true CPU count is much smaller than NR_CPUS.
