* SUNRPC: Convert the backchannel exports to EXPORT_SYMBOL_GPLTrond Myklebust2011-07-151-1/+1
| | | | | | | Ensure that the backchannel exports conform to the existing sunrpc practice. Signed-off-by: Trond Myklebust <Trond.Myklebust@netapp.com>
* SUNRPC: introduce xdr_init_decode_pagesBenny Halevy2011-05-291-0/+19
| | | | | | | Initialize xdr_stream and xdr_buf using an array of page pointers and length of buffer. Signed-off-by: Benny Halevy <bhalevy@panasas.com>
* NFS: Don't use vm_map_ram() in readdirTrond Myklebust2011-01-101-31/+124
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | vm_map_ram() is not available on NOMMU platforms, and causes trouble on incoherrent architectures such as ARM when we access the page data through both the direct and the virtual mapping. The alternative is to use the direct mapping to access page data for the case when we are not crossing a page boundary, but to copy the data into a linear scratch buffer when we are accessing data that spans page boundaries. * SUNRPC: Add a helper function xdr_inline_peekTrond Myklebust2010-10-231-0/+21
| | | | | | | We sometimes need to be able to read ahead in an xdr_stream without incrementing the current pointer position. Signed-off-by: Trond Myklebust <Trond.Myklebust@netapp.com>
* SUNRPC: Refactor logic to NUL-terminate strings in pagesChuck Lever2010-09-211-0/+17
| | | | | | | | Clean up: Introduce a helper to '\0'-terminate XDR strings that are placed in a page in the page cache. Signed-off-by: Chuck Lever <chuck.lever@oracle.com> Signed-off-by: Trond Myklebust <Trond.Myklebust@netapp.com>
* SUNRPC: Don't truncate tail data unnecessarily in xdr_shrink_pagelenTrond Myklebust2010-08-291-1/+10
| | | | | | | If we have unused buffer space, then we should make use of that rather than unnecessarily truncating the message. Signed-off-by: Trond Myklebust <Trond.Myklebust@netapp.com>
* sunrpc: simplify xdr_shrink_pagelen use of "copy"Benny Halevy2010-08-291-4/+3
| | | | | | | | The "copy" variable value can be computed using the existing logic rather than repeating it. Signed-off-by: Benny Halevy <bhalevy@panasas.com> Signed-off-by: Trond Myklebust <Trond.Myklebust@netapp.com>
* sunrpc: don't use the copy variable in nested blockBenny Halevy2010-08-291-2/+1
| | | | | | | | to clean up the code "copy" will be set prior to the block hence it mustn't be used there. Signed-off-by: Benny Halevy <bhalevy@panasas.com> Signed-off-by: Trond Myklebust <Trond.Myklebust@netapp.com>
* sunrpc: clean up xdr_shrink_pagelen use of temporary pointerBenny Halevy2010-08-291-2/+1
| | | | | | | | char *p is used only as a shorthand for tail->iov_base + len in a nested block. Move it there. Signed-off-by: Benny Halevy <bhalevy@panasas.com> Signed-off-by: Trond Myklebust <Trond.Myklebust@netapp.com>
* sunrpc: don't shorten buflen twice in xdr_shrink_pagelenBenny Halevy2010-08-291-2/+1

* include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking ↵Tejun Heo2010-03-301-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies. percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch. * SUNRPC: don't call flush_dcache_page() with an invalid pointerTrond Myklebust2008-04-081-3/+6
| | | | | | | | | Fix a problem in _copy_to_pages(), whereby it may call flush_dcache_page() with an invalid pointer due to the fact that 'pgto' gets incremented beyond the end of the page array. Fix is to exit the loop without this unnecessary increment of pgto. Signed-off-by: Trond Myklebust <Trond.Myklebust@netapp.com>
* SUNRPC: Use unsigned string lengths in xdr_decode_string_inplaceChuck Lever2008-02-011-3/+5
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | XDR strings, opaques, and net objects should all use unsigned lengths. To wit, RFC 4506 says: 4.2. Unsigned Integer An XDR unsigned integer is a 32-bit datum that encodes a non-negative integer in the range [0,4294967295]. ... 4.11. String The standard defines a string of n (numbered 0 through n-1) ASCII bytes to be the number n encoded as an unsigned integer (as described above), and followed by the n bytes of the string. After this patch, xdr_decode_string_inplace now matches the other XDR string and array helpers that take a string length argument. | | | | | | | | | | Most drivers need to set length and offset as well, so may as well fold those three lines into one. * [PATCH] DocBook: changes and extensions to the kernel documentationPavel Pisa2005-05-011-6/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | I have recompiled Linux kernel 2.6.11.5 documentation for me and our university students again. The documentation could be extended for more sources which are equipped by structured comments for recent 2.6 kernels. I have tried to proceed with that task. I have done that more times from 2.6.0 time and it gets boring to do same changes again and again. Linux kernel compiles after changes for i386 and ARM targets. I have added references to some more files into kernel-api book, I have added some section names as well. So please, check that changes do not break something and that categories are not too much skewed. I have changed kernel-doc to accept "fastcall" and "asmlinkage" words reserved by kernel convention. Most of the other changes are modifications in the comments to make kernel-doc happy, accept some parameters description and do not bail out on errors. Changed <pid> to @pid in the description, moved some #ifdef before comments to correct function to comments bindings, etc. You can see result of the modified documentation build at http://cmp.felk.cvut.cz/~pisa/linux/lkdb-2.6.11.tar.gz Some more sources are ready to be included into kernel-doc generated documentation. Sources has been added into kernel-api for now. Some more section names added and probably some more chaos introduced as result of quick cleanup work. * Linux-2.6.12-rc2v2.6.12-rc2Linus Torvalds2005-04-161-0/+917
Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
