This change will help to ensure that the allocated pool of memory for the failed boot option is freed before executing OEM's RSC listener callback to handle every boot option failure. This follows UEFI Spec. But if the caller of LoadImage() doesn't have the option to defer the execution of an image, we can not treat EFI_SECURITY_VIOLATION like any other LoadImage() error, we should unload image for the EFI_SECURITY_VIOLATION to avoid resource leak. This patch is to do error handling for EFI_SECURITY_VIOLATION explicitly for the callers in UefiBootManagerLib which don't have the policy to defer the execution of the image. The REPORT_STATUS_CODE_EX() macro starts populating the structure immediately after DataHeader, therefore the source data must provide for the padding. Extract the BmReportLoadFailure() function from EfiBootManagerBoot(), prepare a zero padding (if any) in a temporary EFI_RETURN_STATUS_EXTENDED_DATA object, and fix the REPORT_STATUS_CODE_EX() macro invocation. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | In some cases, such as MD RAID1 in Linux, the bootloader may be in a nested EFI system partition partition. For example, sda1 and sdb1 are combined as md0 and the first partition of md0, md0p1, is an EFI system partition. Then, the bootloader can be located by the following device paths: PCI()/SATA(sda)/Partition(sda1)/Partition(md0p1)/File(bootloader.efi) PCI()/SATA(sdb)/Partition(sdb1)/Partition(md0p1)/File(bootloader.efi) To make the boot option more resilient, we may create a boot option with the short-form device path like "Partition(md0p1)/File(bootloader.efi)". However, BmMatchPartitionDevicePathNode() only matched the first partition node and ignored the nested partitions, so the firmware would refuse to load bootloader.efi since "Partition(md0p1)" doesn't match either "Partition(sda1)" or "Partition(sda2)". However, driver health protocol of some buggy third party driver may always return such status even after one and another reconnect. The endless iteration will cause stack overflow and then system exception, and it may be not easy to find that the exception is actually caused by stack overflow. So we limit the number of reconnect retry to 10 to improve code robustness, and DEBUG_CODE is moved ahead before recursive repair to track the repair result. We also remove a duplicated declaration of BmRepairAllControllers() in InternalBm.h in this patch, for it is only a trivial change. An example will be: UINT32 a,b; // a and b can be any unsigned int type with rank less than UINT64, like // UINT8, UINT16, etc. UINT64 c; c = (UINT64) (a + b); Some static code checkers may warn that the expression result might overflow within the rank of "int" (integer promotions) and the result is then cast to a bigger size. The commit refines codes by the following rules: 1). When the expression is possible to overflow the range of unsigned int/ int: c = (UINT64)a + b; 2). When the expression will not overflow within the rank of "int", remove the explicit type casts: c = a + b; 3). When the expression will be cast to pointer of possible greater size: UINT32 a,b; VOID *c; c = (VOID *)(UINTN)(a + b); --> c = (VOID *)((UINTN)a + b); 4). When one side of a comparison expression contains only operands with rank less than UINT32: UINT8 a; UINT16 b; UINTN c; if ((UINTN)(a + b) > c) {...} --> if (((UINT32)a + b) > c) {...} For rule 4), if we remove the 'UINTN' type cast like: if (a + b > c) {...} The VS compiler will complain with warning C4018 (signed/unsigned mismatch, level 3 warning) due to promoting 'a + b' to type 'int'. The size of the result is implementation-defined, and its type (a signed integer type) is ptrdiff_t defined in the <stddef.h> header. If the result is not representable in an object of that type, the behavior is undefined." In our codes, there are cases that the pointer subtraction is not performed by pointers to elements of the same array object. This might lead to potential issues, since the behavior is undefined according to C11 standard. Also, since the size of type "ptrdiff_t" is implementation-defined. Some static code checkers may warn that the pointer subtraction might underflow first and then being cast to a bigger size. For example: UINT8 *Ptr1, *Ptr2; UINTN PtrDiff; ...
