| * remoteproc: Remove dev_err() usage after platform_get_irq()Stephen Boyd2019-08-263-37/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | We don't need dev_err() messages when platform_get_irq() fails now that platform_get_irq() prints an error message itself when something goes wrong. Let's remove these prints with a simple semantic patch. // <smpl> @@ expression ret; struct platform_device *E; @@ ret = ( platform_get_irq(E, ...) | platform_get_irq_byname(E, ...) ); if ( \( ret < 0 \| ret <= 0 \) ) { ( -if (ret != -EPROBE_DEFER) -{ ... -dev_err(...); -... } | ... -dev_err(...); ) ... } // </smpl> While we're here, remove braces on if statements that only have one statement (manually). | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | When remoteproc stops a firmware, it sets the MCU PDDS flag, allowing the platform to reach the Standby power mode if needed. Symmetrically, clear this flag before running a firmware. This fixes the issue where the system goes to Standby mode when the MCU crashes while MPU is in CSTOP mode. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | dev_pm_domain_attach_by_name will return NULL if the requested power-domain is not a part device node. This could result in NULL pointer de-reference in q6v5_pds_enable. Fix this by checking for IS_ERR_OR_NULL and forward the appropriate error code. | * remoteproc: Add a sysfs interface for nameSuman Anna2019-08-262-0/+21
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch adds a sysfs interface that provides the name of the remote processor to userspace. This allows the userspace to identify a remote processor as the remoteproc devices themselves are created based on probe order and can change from one boot to another or at runtime. The name is made available in debugfs originally, and is being retained for now. This can be cleaned up after couple of releases once users get familiar with the new interface. | * remoteproc: qcom: Move glink_ssr notification after stopBjorn Andersson2019-07-241-2/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | glink_ssr is used to signal a remote processor "A" about the stopping of another remote processor "B", so that in the event that remote processor B is ever booted again the fifos of the glink channel between A and B is in a known state. But if remote processor A receives this notification before B is actually stopped the newly reset fifo indices will be interpreted as there being "data" on the channel and either side of the channel will enter a fatal error handler. Move the glink_ssr notification to the "unprepare" state of the rproc_subdev to avoid this issue. This has the side effect of us not notifying the dying remote processor itself about its fate, which has been seen to block in certain resource constraint scenarios. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | On most hardware platforms, SoundWire interfaces are pin-muxed with other interfaces (typically DMIC or I2S) and the status of each link needs to be checked at boot time. For Intel platforms, the BIOS provides a menu to enable/disable the links separately, and the information is provided to the OS with an Intel-specific _DSD property. This shouldn't be the case for production devices but will happen a lot on development devices - even more so when they expose a connector. Even when the ACPI information is correct, it's useful to be able to only enable the links that need attention - mostly to filter out dynamic debug messages. | * | soundwire: cadence_master: make use of mclk_freq propertyPierre-Louis Bossart2019-08-211-4/+10
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Now that the prototype and Intel implementation are enabled, use this property to avoid hard-coded values. For example for ICL the mclk_freq value is 38.4 MHz while on CNL/CML it's 24 MHz. The mclk_freq should not be confused with the max_clk_freq, which si the maximum bus clock. The mclk_freq is typically tied to the oscillator frequency and does not change between platforms. The max_clk_freq value is linked to the maximum bandwidth needed and topology/trace length. The number of exported symbols is increasingly growing with each release (we're at about 31k exports as of 5.3-rc7) and we currently have no way of visualizing how these symbols are "clustered" or making sense of this huge export surface. Namespacing exported symbols allows kernel developers to more explicitly partition and categorize exported symbols, as well as more easily limiting the availability of namespaced symbols to other parts of the kernel. For starters, we have introduced the USB_STORAGE namespace to demonstrate the API's usage. I have briefly summarized the feature and its main motivations in the tag below. Summary: - Introduce exported symbol namespaces. This new feature allows subsystem maintainers to partition and categorize their exported symbols into explicit namespaces. Module authors are now required to import the namespaces they need. Some of the main motivations of this feature include: allowing kernel developers to better manage the export surface, allow subsystem maintainers to explicitly state that usage of some exported symbols should only be limited to certain users (think: inter-module or inter-driver symbols, debugging symbols, etc), as well as more easily limiting the availability of namespaced symbols to other parts of the kernel. With the module import requirement, it is also easier to spot the misuse of exported symbols during patch review. Two new macros are introduced: EXPORT_SYMBOL_NS() and EXPORT_SYMBOL_NS_GPL(). The API is thoroughly documented in Documentation/kbuild/namespaces.rst. - Some small code and kbuild cleanups here and there" * tag 'modules-for-v5.4' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/jeyu/linux: module: Remove leftover '#undef' from export header module: remove unneeded casts in cmp_name() module: move CONFIG_UNUSED_SYMBOLS to the sub-menu of MODULES module: remove redundant 'depends on MODULES' module: Fix link failure due to invalid relocation on namespace offset usb-storage: export symbols in USB_STORAGE namespace usb-storage: remove single-use define for debugging docs: Add documentation for Symbol Namespaces scripts: Coccinelle script for namespace dependencies. modpost: add support for generating namespace dependencies export: allow definition default namespaces in Makefiles or sources module: add config option MODULE_ALLOW_MISSING_NAMESPACE_IMPORTS modpost: add support for symbol namespaces module: add support for symbol namespaces. export: explicitly align struct kernel_symbol module: support reading multiple values per modinfo tag

Unfortunately, place-relative relocations require a symbol reference rather than an absolute value and, although x86 appears to get away with this due to placing the kernel text at the top of the address space, it almost certainly results in a runtime failure if the kernel is relocated dynamically as a result of KASLR. Rework 'namespace_offset' so that a value of 0, which cannot occur for a valid namespaced symbol, indicates that the corresponding symbol does not belong to a namespace. | * | usb-storage: export symbols in USB_STORAGE namespaceMatthias Maennich2019-09-1015-0/+16
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Modules using these symbols are required to explicitly import the namespace. This patch was generated with the following steps and serves as a reference to use the symbol namespace feature: 1) Define DEFAULT_SYMBOL_NAMESPACE in the corresponding Makefile 2) make (see warnings during modpost about missing imports) 3) make nsdeps Instead of a DEFAULT_SYMBOL_NAMESPACE definition, the EXPORT_SYMBOL_NS variants can be used to explicitly specify the namespace. The advantage of the method used here is that newly added symbols are automatically exported and existing ones are exported without touching their respective EXPORT_SYMBOL macro expansion. | * | modpost: add support for generating namespace dependenciesMatthias Maennich2019-09-104-6/+53
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch adds an option to modpost to generate a <module>.ns_deps file per module, containing the namespace dependencies for that module. E.g. if the linked module my-module.ko would depend on the symbol myfunc.MY_NS in the namespace MY_NS, the my-module.ns_deps file created by modpost would contain the entry MY_NS to express the namespace dependency of my-module imposed by using the symbol myfunc. These files can subsequently be used by static analysis tools (like coccinelle scripts) to address issues with missing namespace imports. A later patch of this series will introduce such a script 'nsdeps' and a corresponding make target to automatically add missing MODULE_IMPORT_NS() definitions to the module's sources. For that it uses the information provided in the generated .ns_deps files.
