Currently an attempt to set swap.max into a value lower than the actual
swap usage fails, which causes configuration problems as there's no way
of lowering the configuration below the current usage short of turning
off swap entirely. This makes swap.max difficult to use and allows
delegatees to lock the delegator out of reducing swap allocation.
This patch updates swap_max_write() so that the limit can be lowered
below the current usage. It doesn't implement active reclaiming of swap
entries for the following reasons.
* mem_cgroup_swap_full() already tells the swap machinary to
aggressively reclaim swap entries if the usage is above 50% of
limit, so simply lowering the limit automatically triggers gradual
reclaim.
* Forcing back swapped out pages is likely to heavily impact the
workload and mess up the working set. Given that swap usually is a
lot less valuable and less scarce, letting the existing usage
dissipate over time through the above gradual reclaim and as they're
falted back in is likely the better behavior.

Memory controller implements the memory.low best-effort memory
protection mechanism, which works perfectly in many cases and allows
protecting working sets of important workloads from sudden reclaim.
But its semantics has a significant limitation: it works only as long as
there is a supply of reclaimable memory. This makes it pretty useless
against any sort of slow memory leaks or memory usage increases. This
is especially true for swapless systems. If swap is enabled, memory
soft protection effectively postpones problems, allowing a leaking
application to fill all swap area, which makes no sense. The only
effective way to guarantee the memory protection in this case is to
invoke the OOM killer.
It's possible to handle this case in userspace by reacting on MEMCG_LOW
events; but there is still a place for a fail-safe in-kernel mechanism
to provide stronger guarantees.
This patch introduces the memory.min interface for cgroup v2 memory
controller. It works very similarly to memory.low (sharing the same
hierarchical behavior), except that it's not disabled if there is no
more reclaimable memory in the system.
If cgroup is not populated, its memory.min is ignored, because otherwise
even the OOM killer wouldn't be able to reclaim the protected memory,
and the system can stall.

Currently the PTE special supports is turned on in per architecture
header files. Most of the time, it is defined in
arch/*/include/asm/pgtable.h depending or not on some other per
architecture static definition.
This patch introduce a new configuration variable to manage this
directly in the Kconfig files. It would later replace
__HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SPECIAL.
Here notes for some architecture where the definition of
__HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SPECIAL is not obvious:
arm
__HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SPECIAL which is currently defined in
arch/arm/include/asm/pgtable-3level.h which is included by
arch/arm/include/asm/pgtable.h when CONFIG_ARM_LPAE is set.
So select ARCH_HAS_PTE_SPECIAL if ARM_LPAE.
powerpc
__HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SPECIAL is defined in 2 files:
- arch/powerpc/include/asm/book3s/64/pgtable.h
- arch/powerpc/include/asm/pte-common.h
The first one is included if (PPC_BOOK3S & PPC64) while the second is
included in all the other cases.
So select ARCH_HAS_PTE_SPECIAL all the time.
sparc:
__HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SPECIAL is defined if defined(__sparc__) &&
defined(__arch64__) which are defined through the compiler in
sparc/Makefile if !SPARC32 which I assume to be if SPARC64.
So select ARCH_HAS_PTE_SPECIAL if SPARC64
There is no functional change introduced by this patch.

zRam as swap is useful for small memory device. However, swap means
those pages on zram are mostly cold pages due to VM's LRU algorithm.
Especially, once init data for application are touched for launching,
they tend to be not accessed any more and finally swapped out. zRAM can
store such cold pages as compressed form but it's pointless to keep in
memory. Better idea is app developers free them directly rather than
remaining them on heap.
This patch tell us last access time of each block of zram via "cat
/sys/kernel/debug/zram/zram0/block_state".
The output is as follows,
300 75.033841 .wh
301 63.806904 s..
302 63.806919 ..h
First column is zram's block index and 3rh one represents symbol (s:
same page w: written page to backing store h: huge page) of the block
state. Second column represents usec time unit of the block was last
accessed. So above example means the 300th block is accessed at
75.033851 second and it was huge so it was written to the backing store.
Admin can leverage this information to catch cold|incompressible pages
of process with *pagemap* once part of heaps are swapped out.
I used the feature a few years ago to find memory hoggers in userspace
to notify them what memory they have wasted without touch for a long
time. With it, they could reduce unnecessary memory space. However, at
that time, I hacked up zram for the feature but now I need the feature
again so I decided it would be better to upstream rather than keeping it
alone. I hope I submit the userspace tool to use the feature soon.

Mark incompressible pages so that we could investigate who is the owner
of the incompressible pages once the page is swapped out via using
upcoming zram memory tracker feature.
With it, we could prevent such pages to be swapped out by using mlock.
Otherwise we might remove them.
This patch exposes new stat for huge pages via mm_stat.

Add swap max and fail events so that userland can monitor and respond to
running out of swap.
I'm not too sure about the fail event. Right now, it's a bit confusing
which stats / events are recursive and which aren't and also which ones
reflect events which originate from a given cgroup and which targets the
cgroup. No idea what the right long term solution is and it could just
be that growing them organically is actually the only right thing to do.

Pull media updates from Mauro Carvalho Chehab:
- remove of atomisp driver from staging, as nobody would have time to
dedicate huge efforts to fix all the problems there. Also, we have a
feeling that the driver may not even run the way it is.
- move Zoran driver to staging, in order to be either fixed to use VB2
and the proper media kAPIs or to be removed
- remove videobuf-dvb driver, with is unused for a while
- some V4L2 documentation fixes/improvements
- new sensor drivers: imx258 and ov7251
- a new driver was added to allow using I2C transparent drivers
- several improvements at the ddbridge driver
- several improvements at the ISDB pt1 driver, making it more coherent
with the DVB framework
- added a new platform driver for MIPI CSI-2 RX: cadence
- now, all media drivers can be compiled on x86 with COMPILE_TEST
- almost all media drivers now build on non-x86 architectures with

Documentation for Renesas R-Car MIPI CSI-2 receiver. The CSI-2 receivers
are located between the video sources (CSI-2 transmitters) and the video
grabbers (VIN) on Gen3 of Renesas R-Car SoC.
Each CSI-2 device is connected to more than one VIN device which
simultaneously can receive video from the same CSI-2 device. Each VIN
device can also be connected to more than one CSI-2 device. The routing
of which links are used is controlled by the VIN devices. There are only
a few possible routes which are set by hardware limitations, which are
different for each SoC in the Gen3 family.

Having two somewhat similar and largely overlapping APIs is confusing,
especially since the older one appears in the docs before the newer
and most featureful counterpart.
Clarify all of this in several ways:
- swap the two sections
- give a name to the two APIs in the section names
- add a note at the beginning of the CROP API section
- update note about VIDIOC_CROPCAP
Also remove a note that is incorrect (correct wording is in
vidioc-cropcap.rst).

There are two places pointing to an unexisting "m.chehab@kernel.org"
email. I never had such email, so, I'm unsure how it ends there.
Anyway, it is plain wrong.
While here, use my canonical e-mail on a bunch of places that
are pointing to another e-mail. The idea is that, from now on,
all places will be pointing to the same SMTP server.

The compatible string "renesas,rcar-gen3-vin" was added before the
Gen3 driver code was added but it's not possible to use. Each SoC in the
Gen3 series require SoC specific knowledge in the driver to function.

Document the devicetree bindings for the CSI-2 inputs available on Gen3.
There is a need to add a custom property 'renesas,id' and to define
which CSI-2 input is described in which endpoint under the port@1 node.
This information is needed since there are a set of predefined routes
between each VIN and CSI-2 block. This routing table will be kept
inside the driver but in order for it to act on it it must know which
VIN and CSI-2 is which.

Add compatible strings for r8a7743 and r8a7745. No driver change
is needed as "renesas,rcar-gen2-vin" will activate the right code.
However, it is good practice to document compatible strings for the
specific SoC as this allows SoC specific changes to the driver if
needed, in addition to document SoC support and therefore allow
checkpatch.pl to validate compatible string values.

Pull powerpc updates from Michael Ellerman:
"Notable changes:
- Support for split PMD page table lock on 64-bit Book3S (Power8/9).
- Add support for HAVE_RELIABLE_STACKTRACE, so we properly support
live patching again.
- Add support for patching barrier_nospec in copy_from_user() and
syscall entry.
- A couple of fixes for our data breakpoints on Book3S.
- A series from Nick optimising TLB/mm handling with the Radix MMU.
- Numerous small cleanups to squash sparse/gcc warnings from Mathieu
Malaterre.
- Several series optimising various parts of the 32-bit code from
Christophe Leroy.
- Removal of support for two old machines, "SBC834xE" and "C2K"
("GEFanuc,C2K"), which is why the diffstat has so many deletions.
And many other small improvements & fixes.
There's a few out-of-area changes. Some minor ftrace changes OK'ed by
Steve, and a fix to our powernv cpuidle driver. Then there's a series
touching mm, x86 and fs/proc/task_mmu.c, which cleans up some details
around pkey support. It was ack'ed/reviewed by Ingo & Dave and has
been in next for several weeks.

Currently we see a kernel-oops reported on Power-9 while attaching a

The issue is caused as on Power-8 the AFU attr 'prefault_mode' was
used to improve initial storage fault performance by prefaulting
process segments. However on Power-9 with radix mode we don't have
Storage-Segments that we can prefault. Also prefaulting process Pages
will be too costly and fine-grained.
Hence, since the prefaulting mechanism doesn't makes sense of
radix-mode, this patch updates prefault_mode_store() to not allow any
other value apart from CXL_PREFAULT_NONE when radix mode is enabled.

pull-request: bpf-next 2018-06-05
The following pull-request contains BPF updates for your *net-next* tree.
The main changes are:
1) Add a new BPF hook for sendmsg similar to existing hooks for bind and
connect: "This allows to override source IP (including the case when it's
set via cmsg(3)) and destination IP:port for unconnected UDP (slow path).
TCP and connected UDP (fast path) are not affected. This makes UDP support
complete, that is, connected UDP is handled by connect hooks, unconnected
by sendmsg ones.", from Andrey.
2) Rework of the AF_XDP API to allow extending it in future for type writer
model if necessary. In this mode a memory window is passed to hardware
and multiple frames might be filled into that window instead of just one
that is the case in the current fixed frame-size model. With the new
changes made this can be supported without having to add a new descriptor
format. Also, core bits for the zero-copy support for AF_XDP have been
merged as agreed upon, where i40e bits will be routed via Jeff later on.
Various improvements to documentation and sample programs included as
well, all from Björn and Magnus.
3) Given BPF's flexibility, a new program type has been added to implement
infrared decoders. Quote: "The kernel IR decoders support the most
widely used IR protocols, but there are many protocols which are not
supported. [...] There is a 'long tail' of unsupported IR protocols,
for which lircd is need to decode the IR. IR encoding is done in such
a way that some simple circuit can decode it; therefore, BPF is ideal.
[...] user-space can define a decoder in BPF, attach it to the rc
device through the lirc chardev.", from Sean.
4) Several improvements and fixes to BPF core, among others, dumping map
and prog IDs into fdinfo which is a straight forward way to correlate
BPF objects used by applications, removing an indirect call and therefore
retpoline in all map lookup/update/delete calls by invoking the callback
directly for 64 bit archs, adding a new bpf_skb_cgroup_id() BPF helper
for tc BPF programs to have an efficient way of looking up cgroup v2 id
for policy or other use cases. Fixes to make sure we zero tunnel/xfrm
state that hasn't been filled, to allow context access wrt pt_regs in
32 bit archs for tracing, and last but not least various test cases
for fixes that landed in bpf earlier, from Daniel.
5) Get rid of the ndo_xdp_flush API and extend the ndo_xdp_xmit with
a XDP_XMIT_FLUSH flag instead which allows to avoid one indirect
call as flushing is now merged directly into ndo_xdp_xmit(), from Jesper.
6) Add a new bpf_get_current_cgroup_id() helper that can be used in
tracing to retrieve the cgroup id from the current process in order
to allow for e.g. aggregation of container-level events, from Yonghong.
7) Two follow-up fixes for BTF to reject invalid input values and
related to that also two test cases for BPF kselftests, from Martin.
8) Various API improvements to the bpf_fib_lookup() helper, that is,
dropping MPLS bits which are not fully hashed out yet, rejecting
invalid helper flags, returning error for unsupported address
families as well as renaming flowlabel to flowinfo, from David.
9) Various fixes and improvements to sockmap BPF kselftests in particular
in proper error detection and data verification, from Prashant.
10) Two arm32 BPF JIT improvements. One is to fix imm range check with
regards to whether immediate fits into 24 bits, and a naming cleanup
to get functions related to rsh handling consistent to those handling
lsh, from Wang.
11) Two compile warning fixes in BPF, one for BTF and a false positive
to silent gcc in stack_map_get_build_id_offset(), from Arnd.
12) Add missing seg6.h header into tools include infrastructure in order
to fix compilation of BPF kselftests, from Mathieu.
13) Several formatting cleanups in the BPF UAPI helper description that
also fix an error during rst2man compilation, from Quentin.
14) Hide an unused variable in sk_msg_convert_ctx_access() when IPv6 is
not built into the kernel, from Yue.
15) Remove a useless double assignment in dev_map_enqueue(), from Colin.

Currently, AF_XDP only supports a fixed frame-size memory scheme where
each frame is referenced via an index (idx). A user passes the frame
index to the kernel, and the kernel acts upon the data. Some NICs,
however, do not have a fixed frame-size model, instead they have a
model where a memory window is passed to the hardware and multiple
frames are filled into that window (referred to as the "type-writer"
model).
By changing the descriptor format from the current frame index
addressing scheme, AF_XDP can in the future be extended to support
these kinds of NICs.
In the index-based model, an idx refers to a frame of size
frame_size. Addressing a frame in the UMEM is done by offseting the
UMEM starting address by a global offset, idx * frame_size + offset.
Communicating via the fill- and completion-rings are done by means of
idx.
In this commit, the idx is removed in favor of an address (addr),
which is a relative address ranging over the UMEM. To convert an
idx-based address to the new addr is simply: addr = idx * frame_size +
offset.
We also stop referring to the UMEM "frame" as a frame. Instead it is
simply called a chunk.
To transfer ownership of a chunk to the kernel, the addr of the chunk
is passed in the fill-ring. Note, that the kernel will mask addr to
make it chunk aligned, so there is no need for userspace to do
that. E.g., for a chunk size of 2k, passing an addr of 2048, 2050 or
3000 to the fill-ring will refer to the same chunk.
On the completion-ring, the addr will match that of the Tx descriptor,
passed to the kernel.
Changing the descriptor format to use chunks/addr will allow for
future changes to move to a type-writer based model, where multiple
frames can reside in one chunk. In this model passing one single chunk
into the fill-ring, would potentially result in multiple Rx
descriptors.
This commit changes the uapi of AF_XDP sockets, and updates the
documentation.

Intel Wired LAN Driver Updates 2018-06-04
This series contains a smorgasbord of updates to documentation, e1000e,
igb, ixgbe, ixgbevf and i40e.
Benjamin Poirier fixes a potential kernel crash due to NULL pointer
dereference in e1000e.
Jeff updates the kernel documentation for e100 and e1000 to correct
default values and URLs which were incorrect in the documentation. Also
took the time to update these to the new reStructured text format for
kernel documentation.
Joanna Yurdal fixes a missing PTP transmit timestamp by ensuring that
TSICR gets cleared when ICR is cleared.
Sergey updates igb to reset all the transmit queues at one time so that
we only have to wait once for all the queues to be reset.
Alex fixes ixgbevf so that malicious driver detection (MDD) can co-exist
with XDP.
Emil and Tony extend the RTNL lock to ensure we get the most up-to-date
values for the bits and avoid a possible race condition when going down.
YueHaibing from Huawei introduces a helper function in ixgbe for
operation reads to simplify the code a bit more.
Daniel Borkmann adds support for XDP meta data when using build SKB
for i40e.
Shannon Nelson provides twp fixes for the IPSec code in ixgbe, first is
to make sure we do not try to offload the decryption of any incoming
packet that is destined for the management engine. The other fix is to
resolve a cast problem introduced by a sparse cleanup patch.
