Making virt_to_pfn() a static inline taking a strongly typed
(const void *) makes the contract of a passing a pointer of that
type to the function explicit and exposes any misuse of the
macro virt_to_pfn() acting polymorphic and accepting many types
such as (void *), (unitptr_t) or (unsigned long) as arguments
without warnings.
For symmetry, do the same with pfn_to_virt().

Pull x86 shadow stack support from Dave Hansen:
"This is the long awaited x86 shadow stack support, part of Intel's
Control-flow Enforcement Technology (CET).
CET consists of two related security features: shadow stacks and
indirect branch tracking. This series implements just the shadow stack
part of this feature, and just for userspace.
The main use case for shadow stack is providing protection against
return oriented programming attacks. It works by maintaining a
secondary (shadow) stack using a special memory type that has
protections against modification. When executing a CALL instruction,
the processor pushes the return address to both the normal stack and
to the special permission shadow stack. Upon RET, the processor pops
the shadow stack copy and compares it to the normal stack copy.

The x86 Shadow stack feature includes a new type of memory called shadow
stack. This shadow stack memory has some unusual properties, which requires
some core mm changes to function properly.
One of these unusual properties is that shadow stack memory is writable,
but only in limited ways. These limits are applied via a specific PTE
bit combination. Nevertheless, the memory is writable, and core mm code
will need to apply the writable permissions in the typical paths that
call pte_mkwrite(). The goal is to make pte_mkwrite() take a VMA, so
that the x86 implementation of it can know whether to create regular
writable or shadow stack mappings.
But there are a couple of challenges to this. Modifying the signatures of
each arch pte_mkwrite() implementation would be error prone because some
are generated with macros and would need to be re-implemented. Also, some
pte_mkwrite() callers operate on kernel memory without a VMA.
So this can be done in a three step process. First pte_mkwrite() can be
renamed to pte_mkwrite_novma() in each arch, with a generic pte_mkwrite()
added that just calls pte_mkwrite_novma(). Next callers without a VMA can
be moved to pte_mkwrite_novma(). And lastly, pte_mkwrite() and all callers
can be changed to take/pass a VMA.
Start the process by renaming pte_mkwrite() to pte_mkwrite_novma() and
adding the pte_mkwrite() wrapper in linux/pgtable.h. Apply the same
pattern for pmd_mkwrite(). Since not all archs have a pmd_mkwrite_novma(),
create a new arch config HAS_HUGE_PAGE that can be used to tell if
pmd_mkwrite() should be defined. Otherwise in the !HAS_HUGE_PAGE cases the
compiler would not be able to find pmd_mkwrite_novma().
No functional change.

By taking GENERIC_IOREMAP method, the generic generic_ioremap_prot(),
generic_iounmap(), and their generic wrapper ioremap_prot(), ioremap() and
iounmap() are all visible and available to arch. Arch needs to provide
wrapper functions to override the generic versions if there's arch
specific handling in its ioremap_prot(), ioremap() or iounmap(). This
change will simplify implementation by removing duplicated code with
generic_ioremap_prot() and generic_iounmap(), and has the equivalent
functioality as before.
For openrisc, the current ioremap() and iounmap() are the same as generic
version. After taking GENERIC_IOREMAP way, the old ioremap() and
iounmap() can be completely removed.

Pull OpenRISC fix from Stafford Horne:
- During the 6.4 cycle my fpu support work broke ABI compatibility in
the sigcontext struct. This was noticed by musl libc developers after
the release. This fix restores the ABI.

With commit 27267655c531 ("openrisc: Support floating point user api") I
added an entry to the struct sigcontext which caused an unwanted change
to the userspace ABI.
To fix this we use the previously unused oldmask field space for the
floating point fpcsr state. We do this with a union to restore the ABI
back to the pre kernel v6.4 ABI and keep API compatibility.
This does mean if there is some code somewhere that is setting oldmask
in an OpenRISC specific userspace sighandler it would end up setting the
floating point register status, but I think it's unlikely as oldmask was
never functional before.

Most architectures define the atomic/atomic64 xchg and cmpxchg
operations in terms of arch_xchg and arch_cmpxchg respectfully.
Add fallbacks for these cases and remove the trivial cases from arch
code. On some architectures the existing definitions are kept as these
are used to build other arch_atomic*() operations.

OpenRISC floating point state is not so expensive to save as OpenRISC uses
general purpose registers for floating point instructions. We need to save
only the floating point status and control register, FPCSR.
Add support to maintain the FPCSR unconditionally upon exceptions and
switches. On machines that do not support FPU this will always just
store 0x0 and restore is a no-op. On FPU systems this adds an
additional special purpose register read/write and read/write to memory
(already cached).

Every architecture that supports FLATMEM memory model defines its own
version of pfn_valid() that essentially compares a pfn to max_mapnr.
Use mips/powerpc version implemented as static inline as a generic
implementation of pfn_valid() and drop its per-architecture definitions.

Let's support __HAVE_ARCH_PTE_SWP_EXCLUSIVE by stealing one bit from the
type. Generic MM currently only uses 5 bits for the type
(MAX_SWAPFILES_SHIFT), so the stolen bit is effectively unused.
While at it, mask the type in __swp_entry().

Most architectures (except arm64/x86/sparc) simply return 1 for
kern_addr_valid(), which is only used in read_kcore(), and it calls
copy_from_kernel_nofault() which could check whether the address is a
valid kernel address. So as there is no need for kern_addr_valid(), let's
remove it.

This enables ARCH_HAS_VM_GET_PAGE_PROT on the platform and exports
standard vm_get_page_prot() implementation via DECLARE_VM_GET_PAGE_PROT,
which looks up a private and static protection_map[] array. Subsequently
all __SXXX and __PXXX macros can be dropped which are no longer needed.

This patch adds required definitions to allow for PCI buses on OpenRISC.
This is being tested on the OpenRISC QEMU virt platform which is in
development.
OpenRISC does not have IO ports so we keep the definition of
IO_SPACE_LIMIT and PIO_RESERVED to be 0.
Note, since commit 66bcd06099bb ("parport_pc: Also enable driver for PCI
systems") all platforms that support PCI also need to support parallel
port. We add a generic header to support compiling parallel port
drivers, though they generally will not work as they require IO ports.

In order to measure the boot process, the timer should be switched on as
early in boot as possible. As well, the commit defines the get_cycles
macro, like the previous patches in this series, so that generic code is
aware that it's implemented by the platform, as is done on other archs.

There are no remaining callers of set_fs(), so CONFIG_SET_FS
can be removed globally, along with the thread_info field and
any references to it.
This turns access_ok() into a cheaper check against TASK_SIZE_MAX.
As CONFIG_SET_FS is now gone, drop all remaining references to
set_fs()/get_fs(), mm_segment_t, user_addr_max() and uaccess_kernel().

There are many different ways that access_ok() is defined across
architectures, but in the end, they all just compare against the
user_addr_max() value or they accept anything.
Provide one definition that works for most architectures, checking
against TASK_SIZE_MAX for user processes or skipping the check inside
of uaccess_kernel() sections.
For architectures without CONFIG_SET_FS(), this should be the fastest
check, as it comes down to a single comparison of a pointer against a
compile-time constant, while the architecture specific versions tend to
do something more complex for historic reasons or get something wrong.
Type checking for __user annotations is handled inconsistently across
architectures, but this is easily simplified as well by using an inline
function that takes a 'const void __user *' argument. A handful of
callers need an extra __user annotation for this.
Some architectures had trick to use 33-bit or 65-bit arithmetic on the
addresses to calculate the overflow, however this simpler version uses
fewer registers, which means it can produce better object code in the
end despite needing a second (statically predicted) branch.

We need to use this function in common code, so define it for
architectures and/or configrations that miss it. The result of
pmd_pfn() will only be used if TRANSPARENT_HUGEPAGE is enabled,
but a function or macro called pmd_pfn() must be defined, even
on machines with two level page tables.

find_bit API and bitmap API are closely related, but inclusion paths
are different - include/asm-generic and include/linux, correspondingly.

Like fork and clone the clone3 syscall needs a wrapper to save callee
saved registers, which is required by the OpenRISC ABI. This came up
after auditing code following a discussion with Rob Landley and Arnd
Bergmann [0].
Tested with the clone3 kselftests and there were no issues.

Pull scheduler updates from Thomas Gleixner:
- Revert the printk format based wchan() symbol resolution as it can
leak the raw value in case that the symbol is not resolvable.
- Make wchan() more robust and work with all kind of unwinders by
enforcing that the task stays blocked while unwinding is in progress.
- Prevent sched_fork() from accessing an invalid sched_task_group
- Improve asymmetric packing logic
- Extend scheduler statistics to RT and DL scheduling classes and add
statistics for bandwith burst to the SCHED_FAIR class.
- Properly account SCHED_IDLE entities
- Prevent a potential deadlock when initial priority is assigned to a
newly created kthread. A recent change to plug a race between cpuset
and __sched_setscheduler() introduced a new lock dependency which is
now triggered. Break the lock dependency chain by moving the priority
assignment to the thread function.
- Fix the idle time reporting in /proc/uptime for NOHZ enabled systems.
- Improve idle balancing in general and especially for NOHZ enabled
systems.
- Provide proper interfaces for live patching so it does not have to
fiddle with scheduler internals.
- Add cluster aware scheduling support.
- A small set of tweaks for RT (irqwork, wait_task_inactive(), various
scheduler options and delaying mmdrop)

parisc, ia64 and powerpc32 are the only remaining architectures that
provide custom arch_{spin,read,write}_lock_flags() functions, which are
meant to re-enable interrupts while waiting for a spinlock.
However, none of these can actually run into this codepath, because
it is only called on architectures without CONFIG_GENERIC_LOCKBREAK,
or when CONFIG_DEBUG_LOCK_ALLOC is set without CONFIG_LOCKDEP, and none
of those combinations are possible on the three architectures.
Going back in the git history, it appears that arch/mn10300 may have
been able to run into this code path, but there is a good chance that
it never worked. On the architectures that still exist, it was
already impossible to hit back in 2008 after the introduction of
CONFIG_GENERIC_LOCKBREAK, and possibly earlier.
As this is all dead code, just remove it and the helper functions built
around it. For arch/ia64, the inline asm could be cleaned up, but
it seems safer to leave it untouched.

"Unify asm/unaligned.h around struct helper
The get_unaligned()/put_unaligned() helpers are traditionally
architecture specific, with the two main variants being the
"access-ok.h" version that assumes unaligned pointer accesses always
work on a particular architecture, and the "le-struct.h" version that
casts the data to a byte aligned type before dereferencing, for
architectures that cannot always do unaligned accesses in hardware.
Based on the discussion linked below, it appears that the access-ok
version is not realiable on any architecture, but the struct version
probably has no downsides. This series changes the code to use the
same implementation on all architectures, addressing the few
exceptions separately"

openrisc is the only architecture using the linux/unaligned/*memmove
infrastructure. There is a comment saying that this version is more
efficient, but this was added in 2011 before the openrisc gcc port
was merged upstream.
I checked a couple of files to see what the actual difference is with
the mainline gcc (9.4 and 11.1), and found that the generic header
seems to produce better code now, regardless of the gcc version.
Specifically, the be_memmove leads to allocating a stack slot and
copying the data one byte at a time, then reading the whole word
from the stack:

According to Stafford Horne, the new version should in fact perform
better.
In the trivial example, the struct version is a few instructions longer,
but building a whole kernel shows an overall reduction in code size,
presumably because it now has to manage fewer stack slots:

Currently most platforms define pmd_pgtable() as pmd_page() duplicating
the same code all over. Instead just define a default value i.e
pmd_page() for pmd_pgtable() and let platforms override when required via
<asm/pgtable.h>. All the existing platform that override pmd_pgtable()
have been moved into their respective <asm/pgtable.h> header in order to
precede before the new generic definition. This makes it much cleaner
with reduced code.

same code all over. Instead just define a generic default value (i.e 0UL)
for FIRST_USER_ADDRESS and let the platforms override when required. This
makes it much cleaner with reduced code.
The default FIRST_USER_ADDRESS here would be skipped in <linux/pgtable.h>
when the given platform overrides its value via <asm/pgtable.h>.

1. These tlb flush functions have been using vma instead mm long time
ago, but there is still some comments use mm as parameter.
2. the actual struct we use is vm_area_struct instead of vma_struct.
3. remove unused flush_kern_tlb_page.

Pull locking updates from Ingo Molnar:
- Core locking & atomics:
- Convert all architectures to ARCH_ATOMIC: move every architecture
to ARCH_ATOMIC, then get rid of ARCH_ATOMIC and all the
transitory facilities and #ifdefs.
Much reduction in complexity from that series:
63 files changed, 756 insertions(+), 4094 deletions(-)
- Self-test enhancements
- Futexes:
- Add the new FUTEX_LOCK_PI2 ABI, which is a variant that doesn't
set FLAGS_CLOCKRT (.e. uses CLOCK_MONOTONIC).
[ The temptation to repurpose FUTEX_LOCK_PI's implicit setting of
FLAGS_CLOCKRT & invert the flag's meaning to avoid having to
introduce a new variant was resisted successfully. ]
- Enhance futex self-tests
- Lockdep:
- Fix dependency path printouts
- Optimize trace saving
- Broaden & fix wait-context checks
- Misc cleanups and fixes.
