* mm/special: create generic fallbacks for pte_special() and pte_mkspecial()Anshuman Khandual2020-04-101-7/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Currently there are many platforms that dont enable ARCH_HAS_PTE_SPECIAL but required to define quite similar fallback stubs for special page table entry helpers such as pte_special() and pte_mkspecial(), as they get build in generic MM without a config check. This creates two generic fallback stub definitions for these helpers, eliminating much code duplication. mips platform has a special case where pte_special() and pte_mkspecial() visibility is wider than what ARCH_HAS_PTE_SPECIAL enablement requires. This restricts those symbol visibility in order to avoid redefinitions which is now exposed through this new generic stubs and subsequent build failure. arm platform set_pte_at() definition needs to be moved into a C file just to prevent a build failure. * mm/vma: define a default value for VM_DATA_DEFAULT_FLAGSAnshuman Khandual2020-04-102-6/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | There are many platforms with exact same value for VM_DATA_DEFAULT_FLAGS This creates a default value for VM_DATA_DEFAULT_FLAGS in line with the existing VM_STACK_DEFAULT_FLAGS. While here, also define some more macros with standard VMA access flag combinations that are used frequently across many platforms. Apart from simplification, this reduces code duplication as well. * mm: bring sparc pte_index() semantics inline with other platformsArjun Roy2020-04-101-5/+5
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | pte_index() on platforms other than sparc return a numerical index. On sparc, it returns a pte_t*. This presents an issue for vm_insert_pages(), which relies on pte_index() to find the offset for a pte within a pmd, for batched inserts. This patch: 1. Modifies pte_index() for sparc to return a numerical index, like other platforms, 2. Defines pte_entry() for sparc which returns a pte_t* (as pte_index() used to), 3. Converts existing sparc callers for pte_index() to use pte_entry(). * mm/mmu_gather: invalidate TLB correctly on batch allocation failure and flushPeter Zijlstra2020-02-041-0/+9
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Architectures for which we have hardware walkers of Linux page table should flush TLB on mmu gather batch allocation failures and batch flush. Some architectures like POWER supports multiple translation modes (hash and radix) and in the case of POWER only radix translation mode needs the above TLBI. This is because for hash translation mode kernel wants to avoid this extra flush since there are no hardware walkers of linux page table. With radix translation, the hardware also walks linux page table and with that, kernel needs to make sure to TLB invalidate page walk cache before page table pages are freed. More details in commit d86564a2f085 ("mm/tlb, x86/mm: Support invalidating TLB caches for RCU_TABLE_FREE") The changes to sparc are to make sure we keep the old behavior since we are now removing HAVE_RCU_TABLE_NO_INVALIDATE. The default value for tlb_needs_table_invalidate is to always force an invalidate and sparc can avoid the table invalidate. Hence we define tlb_needs_table_invalidate to false for sparc architecture. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | walk_page_range() is going to be allowed to walk page tables other than those of user space. For this it needs to know when it has reached a 'leaf' entry in the page tables. This information is provided by the p?d_leaf() functions/macros. For sparc 64 bit, pmd_large() and pud_large() are already provided, so add macros to provide the p?d_leaf names required by the generic code. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | As discussed in the strace issue tracker, it appears that the sparc32 sysvipc support has been broken for the past 11 years. It was however working in compat mode, which is how it must have escaped most of the regular testing. The problem is that a cleanup patch inadvertently changed the uid/gid fields in struct ipc64_perm from 32-bit types to 16-bit types in uapi headers. Both glibc and uclibc-ng still use the original types, so they should work fine with compat mode, but not natively. Change the definitions to use __kernel_uid32_t and __kernel_gid32_t again. | * | asm-generic: Make msi.h a mandatory include/asm headerMichal Simek2019-11-261-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | msi.h is generic for all architectures except x86, which has its own version. Enabling MSI by adding msi.h to every architecture's Kbuild is just an additional step which doesn't need to be done. Make msi.h mandatory in the asm-generic/Kbuild so we don't have to do it for each architecture. | |/ / | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | There are two structures based on time_t that conflict between libc and kernel: timeval and timespec. Both are now renamed to __kernel_old_timeval and __kernel_old_timespec. For time_t, the old typedef is still __kernel_time_t. There is nothing wrong with that name, but it would be nice to not use that going forward as this type is used almost only in deprecated interfaces because of the y2038 overflow. In the IPC headers (msgbuf.h, sembuf.h, shmbuf.h), __kernel_time_t is only used for the 64-bit variants, which are not deprecated. Change these to a plain 'long', which is the same type as __kernel_time_t on all 64-bit architectures anyway, to reduce the number of users of the old type. Userspace programs (such as HWASan, a memory debugging tool [1]) might use this feature and pass tagged user pointers to the kernel through syscalls or other interfaces. Right now the kernel is already able to handle user faults with tagged pointers, due to these patches: 1. 81cddd65 ("arm64: traps: fix userspace cache maintenance emulation on a tagged pointer") 2. 7dcd9dd8 ("arm64: hw_breakpoint: fix watchpoint matching for tagged pointers") 3. 276e9327 ("arm64: entry: improve data abort handling of tagged pointers") This patchset extends tagged pointer support to syscall arguments. As per the proposed ABI change [3], tagged pointers are only allowed to be passed to syscalls when they point to memory ranges obtained by anonymous mmap() or sbrk() (see the patchset [3] for more details). For non-memory syscalls this is done by untaging user pointers when the kernel performs pointer checking to find out whether the pointer comes from userspace (most notably in access_ok). The untagging is done only when the pointer is being checked, the tag is preserved as the pointer makes its way through the kernel and stays tagged when the kernel dereferences the pointer when perfoming user memory accesses. The mmap and mremap (only new_addr) syscalls do not currently accept tagged addresses. Architectures may interpret the tag as a background colour for the corresponding vma. Other memory syscalls (mprotect, etc.) don't do user memory accesses but rather deal with memory ranges, and untagged pointers are better suited to describe memory ranges internally. Thus for memory syscalls we untag pointers completely when they enter the kernel. === Other approaches One of the alternative approaches to untagging that was considered is to completely strip the pointer tag as the pointer enters the kernel with some kind of a syscall wrapper, but that won't work with the countless number of different ioctl calls. With this approach we would need a custom wrapper for each ioctl variation, which doesn't seem practical. An alternative approach to untagging pointers in memory syscalls prologues is to inspead allow tagged pointers to be passed to find_vma() (and other vma related functions) and untag them there. Unfortunately, a lot of find_vma() callers then compare or subtract the returned vma start and end fields against the pointer that was being searched. Thus this approach would still require changing all find_vma() callers. === Testing The following testing approaches has been taken to find potential issues with user pointer untagging: 1. Static testing (with sparse [2] and separately with a custom static analyzer based on Clang) to track casts of __user pointers to integer types to find places where untagging needs to be done. 2. Static testing with grep to find parts of the kernel that call find_vma() (and other similar functions) or directly compare against vm_start/vm_end fields of vma. 3. Static testing with grep to find parts of the kernel that compare user pointers with TASK_SIZE or other similar consts and macros. 4. Dynamic testing: adding BUG_ON(has_tag(addr)) to find_vma() and running a modified syzkaller version that passes tagged pointers to the kernel. Based on the results of the testing the requried patches have been added to the patchset. === Notes This patchset is meant to be merged together with "arm64 relaxed ABI" [3]. This patchset is a prerequisite for ARM's memory tagging hardware feature support [4]. This patchset has been merged into the Pixel 2 & 3 kernel trees and is now being used to enable testing of Pixel phones with HWASan. Thanks! Untag user pointers passed to these functions. Note, that this patch only temporarily untags the pointers to perform validity checks, but then uses them as is to perform user memory accesses. A while ago Nicholas proposed to remove quicklist page table caches [1]. I've rebased his patch on the curren upstream and switched ia64 and sh to use generic versions of PTE allocation. [1] https://lore.kernel.org/linux-mm/20190711030339.20892-1-npiggin@gmail.com This patch (of 3): Remove page table allocator "quicklists". These have been around for a long time, but have not got much traction in the last decade and are only used on ia64 and sh architectures. The numbers in the initial commit look interesting but probably don't apply anymore. If anybody wants to resurrect this it's in the git history, but it's unhelpful to have this code and divergent allocator behaviour for minor archs. Also it might be better to instead make more general improvements to page allocator if this is still so slow. | * | PCI: Convert pci_resource_to_user() to a weak functionDenis Efremov2019-08-081-2/+0
| |/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Convert pci_resource_to_user() to a weak function so the existing architecture-specific implementations will automatically override the generic one. This allows us to remove HAVE_ARCH_PCI_RESOURCE_TO_USER definitions and avoid the conditional compilation for this single function. * / treewide: add "WITH Linux-syscall-note" to SPDX tag of uapi headersMasahiro Yamada2019-07-251-1/+1
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | UAPI headers licensed under GPL are supposed to have exception "WITH Linux-syscall-note" so that they can be included into non-GPL user space application code. The exception note is missing in some UAPI headers. Some of them slipped in by the treewide conversion commit b24413180f56 ("License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no license"). Just run: $ git show --oneline b24413180f56 -- arch/x86/include/uapi/asm/ I believe they are not intentional, and should be fixed too. This patch was generated by the following script: git grep -l --not -e Linux-syscall-note --and -e SPDX-License-Identifier \ -- :arch/*/include/uapi/asm/*.h :include/uapi/ :^*/Kbuild | while read file do sed -i -e '/[[:space:]]OR[[:space:]]/s/\(GPL-[^[:space:]]*\)/(\1 WITH Linux-syscall-note)/g' \ -e '/[[:space:]]or[[:space:]]/s/\(GPL-[^[:space:]]*\)/(\1 WITH Linux-syscall-note)/g' \ -e '/[[:space:]]OR[[:space:]]/!{/[[:space:]]or[[:space:]]/!s/\(GPL-[^[:space:]]*\)/\1 WITH Linux-syscall-note/g}' $file done After this patch is applied, there are 5 UAPI headers that do not contain "WITH Linux-syscall-note". They are kept untouched since this exception applies only to GPL variants. $ git grep --not -e Linux-syscall-note --and -e SPDX-License-Identifier \ -- :arch/*/include/uapi/asm/*.h :include/uapi/ :^*/Kbuild include/uapi/drm/panfrost_drm.h:/* SPDX-License-Identifier: MIT */ include/uapi/linux/batman_adv.h:/* SPDX-License-Identifier: MIT */ include/uapi/linux/qemu_fw_cfg.h:/* SPDX-License-Identifier: BSD-3-Clause */ include/uapi/linux/vbox_err.h:/* SPDX-License-Identifier: MIT */ include/uapi/linux/virtio_iommu.h:/* SPDX-License-Identifier: BSD-3-Clause */ Signed-off-by: Masahiro Yamada <yamada.masahiro@socionext.com> Reviewed-by: Thomas Gleixner <tglx@linutronix.de> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>
