* x86: unification of i386 and x86_64 Kconfig.debugRandy Dunlap2007-10-251-61/+0
| | | | | | | | Adding proper dependencies so the two Kconfig.debug files are now identical and move the result file to x86. Signed-off-by: Randy Dunlap <randy.dunlap@oracle.com> Signed-off-by: Sam Ravnborg <sam@ravnborg.org>
* Allow DEBUG_RODATA and KPROBES to co-existArjan van de Ven2007-06-211-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Do not mark the kernel text read only if KPROBES is in the kernel; kprobes needs to hot-patch the kernel text to insert it's instrumentation. In this case, only mark the .rodata segment as read only. Signed-off-by: Arjan van de Ven <arjan@linux.intel.com> Tested-by: S. P. * x86: Disable KPROBES with DEBUG_RODATA for nowAndi Kleen2007-06-201-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | Right now Kprobes cannot write to the write protected kernel text when DEBUG_RODATA is enabled. Disallow this in Kconfig for now. Temporary fix for 2.6.22. In .23 add code to temporarily unprotect it. Signed-off-by: Andi Kleen <ak@suse.de> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>

* [PATCH] x86_64: x86_64 stack usage debuggingEric Sandeen2006-06-261-0/+9
| | | | | | | | | | | Applies to git & 2.6.17-rc6 after CONFIG_DEBUG_STACKOVERFLOW patch uses same stack-zeroing mechanism as on i386 to discover maximum stack excursions. * [PATCH] x86_64: (resend) x86_64 stack overflow debuggingEric Sandeen2006-06-261-0/+7
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Take two, now without spurious whitespace :( Applies to git & 2.6.17-rc6 CONFIG_DEBUG_STACKOVERFLOW existed for x86_64 in 2.4, but seems to have gone AWOL in 2.6. I've pretty much just copied this over from the 2.4 code, with appropriate tweaks for the 2.6 kernel, plus a bugfix. I'd personally rather see it printed out the way other arches do it, i.e. bytes-remaining-until-overflow, rather than having to do the subtraction yourself. Also, only 128 bytes remaining seems awfully late to issue a warning. But I'll start here :) Signed-off-by: Eric Sandeen <sandeen@sgi.com> Signed-off-by: Andi Kleen <ak@suse.de> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
* [PATCH] x86_64: Rename IOMMU option, fix help and mark option embedded.Andi Kleen2006-06-261-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | - Rename the GART_IOMMU option to IOMMU to make clear it's not just for AMD - Rewrite the help text to better emphatise this fact - Make it an embedded option because too many people get it wrong. To my astonishment I discovered the aacraid driver tests this symbol directly. This looks quite broken to me - it's an internal implementation detail of the PCI DMA API. Can the maintainer please clarify what this test was intended to do? * [PATCH] x86_64: Remove CONFIG_INIT_DEBUGAndi Kleen2006-02-041-7/+0
| | | | | | | | It has been enabled by default for some time now and is cheap enough so it doesn't matter anyways. Signed-off-by: Andi Kleen <ak@suse.de> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
* [PATCH] x86/x86_64: mark rodata section read-only: x86-64 supportArjan van de Ven2006-01-061-0/+10

| * [PATCH] x86_64: Remove CONFIG_CHECKING and add command line option for ↵Andi Kleen2005-11-141-9/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | pagefault tracing CONFIG_CHECKING covered some debugging code used in the early times of the port. But it wasn't even SMP safe for quite some time and the bugs it checked for seem to be gone. This patch removes all the code to verify GS at kernel entry. There haven't been any new bugs in this area for a long time. Previously it also covered the sysctl for the page fault tracing. That didn't make much sense because that code was unconditionally compiled in. I made that a boot option now because it is typically only useful at boot. * | [PATCH] Move Kprobes and Oprofile to "Instrumentation Support" menuPrasanna S Panchamukhi2005-11-071-10/+0
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Andrew Morton suggested to move kprobes from kernel hacking menu, since kernel hacking menu is in-appropriate for the Kprobes. This patch moves Kprobes and Oprofile under instrumentation menu. (akpm: it's not a natural fit, but things like djprobes and the s390 guys' statistics library need a home) Signed-of-by: Prasanna S Panchamukhi <prasanna@in.ibm.com> Cc: Philippe Elie <phil.el@wanadoo.fr> Cc: John Levon <levon@movementarian.org> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
* Linux-2.6.12-rc2v2.6.12-rc2Linus Torvalds2005-04-161-0/+57
Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
