The opening comment mark "/**" is reserved for kernel-doc comments, so
it will generate warnings for comments that are not kernel-doc with

The use of the drmP.h header file is deprecated.
Remove use from all files in drm/*
so people do not look there and follow a bad example.
Build tested allyesconfig,allmodconfig on x86, arm etc.
Including alpha that is as always more challenging than
the rest.

If the ioctl is not supported on a particular piece of HW/driver
combination, report ENOTSUP (aka EOPNOTSUPP) so that it can be easily
distinguished from both the lack of the ioctl and from a regular invalid
parameter.
v2: Across all the kms ioctls we had a mixture of reporting EINVAL,
ENODEV and a few ENOTSUPP (most where EINVAL) for a failed
drm_core_check_feature(). Update everybody to report ENOTSUPP.
v3: ENOTSUPP is an internal errno! It's value (524) does not correspond
to a POSIX errno, the one we want is ENOTSUP. However,
uapi/asm-generic/errno.h doesn't include ENOTSUP but man errno says
"ENOTSUP and EOPNOTSUPP have the same value on Linux,
but according to POSIX.1 these error values should be
distinct."
so use EOPNOTSUPP as its equivalent.

<linux/sched/signal.h>
We are going to split <linux/sched/signal.h> out of <linux/sched.h>, which
will have to be picked up from other headers and a couple of .c files.
Create a trivial placeholder <linux/sched/signal.h> file that just
maps to <linux/sched.h> to make this patch obviously correct and
bisectable.
Include the new header in the files that are going to need it.

Except for nouveau, only legacy drivers need this really. And nouveau
is already marked up with DRIVER_KMS_LEGACY_CONTEXT as the special
case.
I've tried to be careful to leave everything related to modeset still
using the DRIVER_MODESET flag. Otherwise it's a direct replacement of
!DRIVER_MODESET with DRIVER_LEGACY checks. Also helps readability
since fewer negative checks overall.

There can only be one current master, and it's for the overall device.
Render/control minors don't support master-based auth at all.
This simplifies the master logic a lot, at least in my eyes: All these
additional pointer chases are just confusing.
While doing the conversion I spotted some locking fail:
- drm_lock/drm_auth check dev->master without holding the
master_mutex. This is fallout from

drm: Protect the master management with a drm_device::master_mutex v3
but I honestly don't care one bit about those old legacy drivers
using this.
- debugfs name info should just grab master_mutex.
- And the fbdev helper looked at it to figure out whether someone is
using KMS. We just need a consistent value, so READ_ONCE. Aside: We
should probably check if anyone has opened a control node too, but I
guess current userspace doesn't really do that yet.

A few things:
- Rename the cleanup function from drm_master_release to
drm_legacy_lock_release. It doesn't relase any master stuff, but
just the legacy hw lock.
- Hide it in drm_lock.c, which allows us to make a few more functions
static in there. To avoid forward decl we need to shuffle the code a
bit though.
- Push the check for ->master into the function itself.
- Only call this for !DRIVER_MODESET.
End result: Another place that takes struct_mutex gone for good for
modern drivers.
v2: Remove leftover comment.

It is hardly possible to enumerate all problems with block_all_signals()
and unblock_all_signals(). Just for example,
1. block_all_signals(SIGSTOP/etc) simply can't help if the caller is
multithreaded. Another thread can dequeue the signal and force the
group stop.
2. Even is the caller is single-threaded, it will "stop" anyway. It
will not sleep, but it will spin in kernel space until SIGCONT or
SIGKILL.
And a lot more. In short, this interface doesn't work at all, at least
the last 10+ years.
Daniel said:

I've done some extensive history digging across libdrm, mesa and
xf86-video-{intel,nouveau,ati}. The only potential user of this with
kms drivers I could find was ttmtest, which once used drmGetLock
still. But that mistake was quickly fixed up. Even the intel xvmc
library (which otherwise was really good with using dri1 stuff in kms
mode) managed to never take the hw lock for dri2 (and hence kms).
Hence it should be save to unconditionally disallow this.

This reverts commit 48ba813701eb14b3008edefef4a0789b328e278c.
Thanks to Chris:
"drm_file->is_master is not synomous with having drm_file->master ==
drm_file->minor->master. This is because drm_file->master is the same
for all drm_files of the same generation and so when there is a master,
every drm_file believes itself to be the master. Confusion ensues and
things go pear shaped when one file is closed and there is no master
anymore."

The drm_file->is_master field is redundant as it's equivalent to:
drm_file->master && drm_file->master == drm_file->minor->master
1) "=>"
Whenever we set drm_file->is_master, we also set:
drm_file->minor->master = drm_file->master;
Whenever we clear drm_file->is_master, we also call:
drm_master_put(&drm_file->minor->master);
which implicitly clears it to NULL.
2) "<="
minor->master cannot be set if it is non-NULL. Therefore, it stays as
is unless a file drops it.
If minor->master is NULL, it is only set by places that also adjust
drm_file->is_master.
Therefore, we can safely drop is_master and replace it by an inline helper
that matches:
drm_file->master && drm_file->master == drm_file->minor->master

Only one driver (i810) even sets that flag. Now the actual locking
code uncoditionally promotes lock->context to an unsigned int.
Closer inspection of the userspace reveals that the drm lock context
is defined as an unsigned int (at least on linux). I suspect we just
have a strange case of signedness confusion going on.
Tested on my i815, doesn't seem to break anything.

This is done by
1) Wake up lock waiters when we close the master file descriptor.
Not when the master structure is removed, since the latter
requires the waiters themselves to release the refcount on the
master structure -> Deadlock.
2) Send a SIGTERM to all clients waiting for the lock.
Normally these clients will get a SIGPIPE when the X server dies,
but clients may also spin trying to grab the DRM lock, without
getting any sort of notification.

This is step one towards having multiple masters sharing a drm
device in order to get fast-user-switching to work.
It splits out the information associated with the drm master
into a separate kref counted structure, and allocates this when
a master opens the device node. It also allows the current master
to abdicate (say while VT switched), and a new master to take over
the hardware.
It moves the Intel and radeon drivers to using the sarea from
within the new master structures.

To synchronize clip lists with the X server, the DRM lock must be held while
looking at drawable clip lists. To synchronize with other ring access, the
ring mutex must be held while inserting commands into the ring. Failure to
do the first resulted in easy visual corruption when moving windows, and the
second could have corrupted the ring with DRI2.
Grabbing the DRM lock involves using the DRM tasklet mechanism, grabbing the
ring mutex means potentially sleeping. Deal with both of these by always
running the tasklet from a work handler.
Also, protect from clip list changes since the vblank request was queued by
making sure the window has at least one rectangle while looking inside,
preventing oopses .

There is a problem with debugging the X server and gdb crashes in
the xkb startup code.
This avoids the problem by allowing the master process to get signals.
It should be safe as the signal blocker is mainly so that you can
Ctrl-Z a 3D application without locking up the whole box. Ctrl-Z the

With the coming of kernel based modesetting and the memory manager stuff,
the everything in one directory approach was getting very ugly and
starting to be unmanageable.
This restructures the drm along the lines of other kernel components.
It creates a drivers/gpu/drm directory and moves the hw drivers into
subdirectores. It moves the includes into an include/drm, and
sets up the unifdef for the userspace headers we should be exporting.
