| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | [ Upstream commit f1a54e860b1bc8d824925b5a77f510913880e8d6 ] The commit 0f5251339eda ("drm/vc4: hdmi: Make sure the controller is powered in detect") introduced the necessary power management handling to avoid register access while controller is powered down. Unfortunately it just print a warning if pm_runtime_resume_and_get() fails and proceed anyway. This could happen during suspend to idle. So we must assume it is unsafe to access the HDMI register. So bail out properly. The user who configures a kernel should not need to know which helpers are needed for the driver he is interested in. Making a driver depend on helper code means that the user needs to know which helpers to enable first, which is very user-unfriendly. However the value returned is (mostly) ignored and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns void. Trivially convert the vc4 drm drivers from always returning zero in the remove callback to the void returning variant.
