i2c-hid uses 2 shared buffers: command and "raw" input buffer for
sending requests to peripherals and read data from peripherals when
executing variety of commands. Such commands include reading of HID
registers, requesting particular power mode, getting and setting
reports and so on. Because all such requests use the same 2 buffers
they should not execute simultaneously.
Fix this by introducing "cmd_lock" mutex and acquire it whenever
we needs to access ihid->cmdbuf or idid->rawbuf.

Before this change there were 16 vid:pid based quirks to ignore the battery
reported by Elan I2C-HID touchscreens on various Asus and HP laptops.
And a report has been received that the 04F3:2A00 I2C touchscreen on
the HP ProBook x360 11 G5 EE/86CF also reports a non present battery.
Since I2C-HID devices are always builtin to laptops they are not battery
owered so it should be safe to just ignore the battery on all Elan I2C-HID
devices, rather then adding a 17th quirk for the 04F3:2A00 touchscreen.
As reported in the changelog of commit a3a5a37efba1 ("HID: Ignore battery
for ELAN touchscreens 2F2C and 4116"), which added 2 new Elan touchscreen
quirks about a month ago, the HID reported battery seems to be related
to a stylus being used. But even when a stylus is in use it does not
properly report the charge of the stylus battery, instead the reported
battery charge jumps from 0% to 1%. So it is best to just ignore the
HID battery.

The driver currently assumes that the first sequence number it will see
is going to be 0. This is not a realiable assumption and can break if,
for example, the tablet has already been running for some time prior to
the kernel driver connecting to the device. This commit initializes the
expected sequence number to -1 and will only print the "Dropped" warning
the it has been updated to a non-negative value.

The current dropped packet reporting assumes that all sequence numbers
are 16 bits in length. This results in misleading "Dropped" messages if
the hardware uses fewer bits. For example, if a tablet uses only 8 bits
to store its sequence number, once it rolls over from 255 -> 0, the
driver will still be expecting a packet "256". This patch adjusts the
logic to reset the next expected packet to logical_minimum whenever
it overflows beyond logical_maximum.

HID driver callbacks aren't called anymore once hid_destroy_device() has
been called. Hence, hid driver_data should be freed only after the
hid_destroy_device() function returned as driver_data is used in several
callbacks.
I observed a crash with kernel 6.10.0 on my T14s Gen 3, after enabling

KASAN reports a use-after-free of hid->driver_data in function
amd_sfh_get_report(). The backtrace indicates that the function is called
by amdtp_hid_request() which is one of the callbacks of hid device.
The current make sure that driver_data is freed only once
hid_destroy_device() returned.
Note that I observed the crash both on v6.9.9 and v6.10.0. The
code seems to be as it was from the early days of the driver.

The Wacom driver maps the HID_DG_TWIST usage to ABS_Z (rather than ABS_RZ)
for historic reasons. When the code to support twist was introduced in
commit 50066a042da5 ("HID: wacom: generic: Add support for height, tilt,
and twist usages"), we were careful to write it in such a way that it had
HID calculate the resolution of the twist axis assuming ABS_RZ instead
(so that we would get correct angular behavior). This was broken with
the introduction of commit 08a46b4190d3 ("HID: wacom: Set a default
resolution for older tablets"), which moved the resolution calculation
to occur *before* the adjustment from ABS_Z to ABS_RZ occurred.
This commit moves the calculation of resolution after the point that
we are finished setting things up for its proper use.

The pen ID, 0x80842, was not the correct ID for wacom driver to
treat. The ID was corrected to 0x8842.
Also, 0x4200 was not the expected ID used on any Wacom device.

Sensors discovery is independent of HID device initialization. If sensor
discovery fails after HID initialization, then the HID device needs to be
deinitialized. Therefore, sensors discovery should be moved before HID

At least ASUS Zenbook 14 (2023) and ASUS Zenbook 14 Pro (2023) are affected.
The touchscreen reports a battery status of 0% and jumps to 1% when a
stylus is used.
The device ID was added and the battery ignore quirk was enabled for it.

The Elan eKTH5015M touch controller found on the Lenovo ThinkPad X13s
shares the VCC33 supply with other peripherals that may remain powered
during suspend (e.g. when enabled as wakeup sources).
The reset line is also wired so that it can be left deasserted when the
supply is off.
This is important as it avoids holding the controller in reset for
extended periods of time when it remains powered, which can lead to
increased power consumption, and also avoids leaking current through the
X13s reset circuitry during suspend (and after driver unbind).
Use the new 'no-reset-on-power-off' devicetree property to determine
when reset needs to be asserted on power down.
Notably this also avoids wasting power on machine variants without a
touchscreen for which the driver would otherwise exit probe with reset
asserted.

joycon_leds_create() has a ida_alloc() call. So if an error occurs after
it, a corresponding ida_free() call is needed, as already done in the
.remove function.
This is not 100% perfect, because if ida_alloc() fails, then
'ctlr->player_id' will forced to be U32_MAX, and an error will be logged
when ida_free() is called.
Considering that this can't happen in real life, no special handling is
done to handle it.

kernel test robot reported build error due to a pointer type mismatch:
.../ishtp/loader.c:172:8: error: incompatible pointer types passing
'__le64 *' (aka 'unsigned long long *') to parameter of type
'dma_addr_t *' (aka 'unsigned int *')
The issue arises because the driver, which is primarily intended for
x86-64, is also built for i386 when COMPILE_TEST is enabled.
Resolve type mismatch by using a temporary dma_addr_t variable to hold
the DMA address. Populate this temporary variable in dma_alloc_coherent()
function, and then convert and store the address in the
fragment->fragment_tbl[i].ddr_adrs field in the correct format.
Similarly, convert the ddr_adrs field back to dma_addr_t when freeing
the DMA buffer with dma_free_coherent().

Update the driver to initialize struct fb_info.bl_dev to its backlight
device, if any. Thus rely on the backlight core code to match backlight
and framebuffer devices, and remove the extra check_fb function from

Kbuild conventionally uses $(obj)/ for generated files, and $(src)/ for
checked-in source files. It is merely a convention without any functional
difference. In fact, $(obj) and $(src) are exactly the same, as defined
in scripts/Makefile.build:
src := $(obj)
When the kernel is built in a separate output directory, $(src) does
not accurately reflect the source directory location. While Kbuild
resolves this discrepancy by specifying VPATH=$(srctree) to search for
source files, it does not cover all cases. For example, when adding a
header search path for local headers, -I$(srctree)/$(src) is typically
passed to the compiler.
This introduces inconsistency between upstream and downstream Makefiles
because $(src) is used instead of $(srctree)/$(src) for the latter.
To address this inconsistency, this commit changes the semantics of
$(src) so that it always points to the directory in the source tree.
Going forward, the variables used in Makefiles will have the following
meanings:
$(obj) - directory in the object tree
$(src) - directory in the source tree (changed by this commit)
$(objtree) - the top of the kernel object tree
$(srctree) - the top of the kernel source tree
Consequently, $(srctree)/$(src) in upstream Makefiles need to be replaced
with $(src).

WinWing Orion2 throttle works with Linux out of box,
but the kernel sees only 16 of 47 buttons on the throttle base.
This module enables all buttons, and also adds LED controls.
Button numbers 0 .. 63 on Orion2 are reserved for throttle grip;
the throttle base buttons have numbers 64 .. 110.
Linux kernel HID subsystem only supports up to 80 buttons.
Remap throttle base buttons to numbers 32 .. 78,
reserving only numbers 0 .. 31 for buttons on the grip handle.

Some vendors reuse the same product ID for different tablets, making it
difficult for userspace to figure out which table is connected.
While matching the device name has been used in the past by userspace to
workaround this limitation, some devices have shown that this is not
always a valid approach [1].
However, if userspace could access the firmware version name, it would
be possible to know which tablet is actually connected by matching it
against a list of known firmware names [2].
This patch exposes the firmware version name in the hid->uniq field.

send their measurement values by default in the main HID input report.

The logic in dualshock4_get_calibration_data() used uninitialised data
in case of a failed kzalloc() for the transfer buffer.
The solution is to group all business logic and all sanity checks
together, and jump only to the latter in case of an error.
While we're at it, factor out the axes' labelling, since it must happen
either way for input_report_abs() to succeed later on.

Some third-party controllers can't report firmware/hardware version.
Unlike for the DualSense, the driver does not use these values for

There was no way to disable blinking once enabled.
Disable it on brightness = 0, as per the Linux LED spec.
The driver reports back the values it sends to the controller, but they
need to be scaled back to milliseconds. Setting the LED blinking via
sysfs works as expected now.
