* dm mirror log: clear log bits up to BITS_PER_LONG boundaryMikulas Patocka2022-06-231-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Commit 85e123c27d5c ("dm mirror log: round up region bitmap size to BITS_PER_LONG") introduced a regression on 64-bit architectures in the lvm testsuite tests: lvcreate-mirror, mirror-names and vgsplit-operation. If the device is shrunk, we need to clear log bits beyond the end of the device. The code clears bits up to a 32-bit boundary and then calculates lc->sync_count by summing set bits up to a 64-bit boundary (the commit changed that; previously, this boundary was 32-bit too). So, it was using some non-zeroed bits in the calculation and this caused misbehavior. Fix this regression by clearing bits up to BITS_PER_LONG boundary. * dm mirror log: round up region bitmap size to BITS_PER_LONGMikulas Patocka2022-06-161-2/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The code in dm-log rounds up bitset_size to 32 bits. It then uses find_next_zero_bit_le on the allocated region. find_next_zero_bit_le accesses the bitmap using unsigned long pointers. So, on 64-bit architectures, it may access 4 bytes beyond the allocated size. Fix this bug by rounding up bitset_size to BITS_PER_LONG. This bug was found by running the lvm2 testsuite with kasan. * dm: update target status functions to support IMA measurementTushar Sugandhi2021-08-101-0/+10
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | For device mapper targets to take advantage of IMA's measurement capabilities, the status functions for the individual targets need to be updated to handle the status_type_t case for value STATUSTYPE_IMA. Update status functions for the following target types, to log their respective attributes to be measured using IMA. 01. cache 02. crypt 03. integrity 04. linear 05. mirror 06. multipath 07. raid 08. snapshot 09. striped 10. verity For rest of the targets, handle the STATUSTYPE_IMA case by setting the measurement buffer to NULL. For IMA to measure the data on a given system, the IMA policy on the system needs to be updated to have the following line, and the system needs to be restarted for the measurements to take effect. /etc/ima/ima-policy measure func=CRITICAL_DATA label=device-mapper template=ima-buf The measurements will be reflected in the IMA logs, which are located at: /sys/kernel/security/integrity/ima/ascii_runtime_measurements /sys/kernel/security/integrity/ima/binary_runtime_measurements These IMA logs can later be consumed by various attestation clients running on the system, and send them to external services for attesting the system. The DM target data measured by IMA subsystem can alternatively be queried from userspace by setting DM_IMA_MEASUREMENT_FLAG with DM_TABLE_STATUS_CMD. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Commit e6047149db ("dm: use bio op accessors") switched DM over to using bio_set_op_attrs() but didn't take care to initialize lc->io_req.bi_op_flags in dm-log.c:rw_header(). This caused rw_header()'s call to dm_io() to make bio->bi_op_flags be uninitialized in dm-io.c:do_region(), which ultimately resulted in a SCSI BUG() in sd_init_command(). * dm: reject trailing characters in sccanf inputMikulas Patocka2012-03-281-1/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Device mapper uses sscanf to convert arguments to numbers. The problem is that the way we use it ignores additional unmatched characters in the scanned string. For example, this `if (sscanf(string, "%d", &number) == 1)' will match a number, but also it will match number with some garbage appended, like "123abc". As a result, device mapper accepts garbage after some numbers. For example the command `dmsetup create vg1-new --table "0 16384 linear 254:1bla 34816bla"' will pass without an error. This patch fixes all sscanf uses in device mapper. It appends "%c" with a pointer to a dummy character variable to every sscanf statement. The construct `if (sscanf(string, "%d%c", &number, &dummy) == 1)' succeeds only if string is a null-terminated number (optionally preceded by some whitespace characters). If there is some character appended after the number, sscanf matches "%c", writes the character to the dummy variable and returns 2. We check the return value for 1 and consequently reject numbers with some garbage appended. * dm io: use fixed initial mempool sizeMikulas Patocka2011-05-291-2/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Replace the arbitrary calculation of an initial io struct mempool size with a constant. The code calculated the number of reserved structures based on the request size and used a "magic" multiplication constant of 4. This patch changes it to reserve a fixed number - itself still chosen quite arbitrarily. Further testing might show if there is a better number to choose. Note that if there is no memory pressure, we can still allocate an arbitrary number of "struct io" structures. One structure is enough to process the whole request. * dm: implement REQ_FLUSH/FUA support for bio-based dmTejun Heo2010-09-101-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch converts bio-based dm to support REQ_FLUSH/FUA instead of now deprecated REQ_HARDBARRIER. * -EOPNOTSUPP handling logic dropped. * Preflush is handled as before but postflush is dropped and replaced with passing down REQ_FUA to member request_queues. This replaces one array wide cache flush w/ member specific FUA writes. * __split_and_process_bio() now calls __clone_and_map_flush() directly for flushes and guarantees all FLUSH bio's going to targets are zero ` length. * It's now guaranteed that all FLUSH bio's which are passed onto dm targets are zero length. bio_empty_barrier() tests are replaced with REQ_FLUSH tests. * Empty WRITE_BARRIERs are replaced with WRITE_FLUSHes. * Dropped unlikely() around REQ_FLUSH tests. Flushes are not unlikely enough to be marked with unlikely(). * Block layer now filters out REQ_FLUSH/FUA bio's if the request_queue doesn't support cache flushing. Advertise REQ_FLUSH | REQ_FUA capability. * Request based dm isn't converted yet. dm_init_request_based_queue() resets flush support to 0 for now. To avoid disturbing request based dm code, dm->flush_error is added for bio based dm while requested based dm continues to use dm->barrier_error. Lightly tested linear, stripe, raid1, snap and crypt targets. Please proceed with caution as I'm not familiar with the code base. * dm log: introduce flush_failed variableMikulas Patocka2009-12-101-1/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Introduce "flush failed" variable. When a flush before clearing a bit in the log fails, we don't know anything about which which regions are in-sync and which not.
