Previously, the driver was completing the I/O with "DID_SOFT_ERROR" which causes the I/O to be quickly retried. However, firmware needed more time and hence I/Os were failing. The LLDD generally should know the state of a slot and decide when to free it, and it should only be done once. For some scenarios, we really don't know the state, like when TMF timeout. In this case, we check task->lldd_task before calling hisi_sas_slot_task_free(). However, we may miss some scenarios when we should also check task->lldd_task, and it is not SMP safe to check task->lldd_task as we don't protect it within spin lock. This patch is to fix this risk of freeing slot twice, as follows: 1. Check task->lldd_task in the hisi_sas_slot_task_free(), and give up freeing of this time if task->lldd_task is NULL. 2. The first one is broken on 32-bit architectures as it cannot go past year 2038. Using timespec64 here makes it behave properly on both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures, and avoids relying on signed integer overflow to pass times into the second interface. The interface used in aac_send_hosttime() however is still problematic in year 2106 when 32-bit seconds overflow. Hopefully we don't have to worry about aacraid by that time. The return value of smp_execute_task_sg() is the untransferred residual, but bsg_job_done() requires the length of payload received. This makes SMP passthrough commands from userland by sg ioctl to libsas get a wrong response. The userland tools such as smp_utils failed because of these wrong responses: ~#smp_discover /dev/bsg/expander-2\:13 response too short, len=0 ~#smp_discover /dev/bsg/expander-2\:134 response too short, len=0 Fix this by passing the actual received length to bsg_job_done(). And if smp_execute_task_sg() returns 0, this means received length is exactly the buffer length. In non-coherent DMA mode, kernel uses cache flushing operations to maintain I/O coherency, so scsi's block queue should be aligned to the value returned by dma_get_cache_alignment(). Otherwise, If a DMA buffer and a kernel structure share a same cache line, and if the kernel structure has dirty data, cache_invalidate (no writeback) will cause data corruption. The pci_remove_one handler runs on a separate kernel thread. The order of the removal is starting by freeing all of the ndlps and then disabling interrupts. In between these two events the driver can still receive an ELS and process it. When it tries to use the ndlp pointer will be NULL Change the order of the pci_remove_one vs disable interrupts so that interrupts are disabled before the ndlp's are freed. This commit added a call to sysfs_notify() from within scsi_device_set_state(), which in turn turns out to make libata very unhappy, because ata_eh_detach_dev() does spin_lock_irqsave(ap->lock, flags); .. if (ata_scsi_offline_dev(dev)) { dev->flags |= ATA_DFLAG_DETACHED; ap->pflags |= ATA_PFLAG_SCSI_HOTPLUG; } and ata_scsi_offline_dev() then does that scsi_device_set_state() to set it offline. So now we called sysfs_notify() from within a spinlocked region, which really doesn't work. The 0day robot reported this as: BUG: sleeping function called from invalid context at kernel/locking/mutex.c:238 because sysfs_notify() ends up calling kernfs_find_and_get_ns() which then does mutex_lock(&kernfs_mutex).. The pollability of the device state isn't critical, so revert this all for now, and maybe we'll do it differently in the future. The routine qla2x00_probe_one() detects the error case and jumps to probe_failed, but has already assigned the return value from kthread_create() to ha->dpc_thread. Then probe_failed checks to see if ha->dpc_thread is not NULL before doing cleanup on it. Since in the error case this is also not NULL, it ends up trying to access an invalid task pointer. Solution is to assign NULL to ha->dpc_thread in the error path to avoid kthread cleanup in that case. The scsi-mq code handles requests as follows: - If scsi_mq_prep_fn() returns BLKPREP_OK, set the RQF_DONTPREP flag and submit the request to the SCSI LLD. - If scsi_mq_prep_fn() returns BLKPREP_DEFER, call blk_mq_delay_run_hw_queue() and return BLK_STS_RESOURCE. - If the prep function returns BLKPREP_KILL or BLKPREP_INVALID, call scsi_mq_uninit_cmd() and let the blk-mq core end the request. Hence the devices will not be removed at this point, but all intermediate structures like fc rport etc. will be. Later on during scsi_forget_host() the devices are removed for real, but the device parent is already removed and causes this warning. Now, after an IOP reset, aacraid immediately start polling a register to verify the reset is complete. This behavior cause regressions on the reset path in PowerPC (at least). Since the delay after the IOP reset was removed by the aforementioned patch, the fact driver just starts to read a register instantly after the reset was issued (by writing in another register) "corrupts" the reset procedure, which ends up failing all the time. The issue highly impacted kdump on PowerPC, since on kdump path we proactively issue a reset in adapter (through the reset_devices kernel parameter). This patch (re-)adds a delay right after IOP reset is issued. Empirically we measured that 3 seconds is enough, but for safety reasons we delay for 5s (and since it was 30s before, 5s is still a small amount).
