This patch adds a new function 'f_uac1'
(f_uac1 with virtual "ALSA card") that
uses recently created u_audio API. Comparing
to legacy f_uac1 function implementation it
doesn't require any real Audio codec to be
present on the device. In f_uac1 audio
streams are simply sinked to and sourced
from a virtual ALSA sound card created
using u_audio API.
Legacy f_uac1 approach is to write audio
samples directly to existing ALSA sound
card
f_uac1 approach is more generic/flexible
one - create an ALSA sound card that
represents USB Audio function and allows to
be used by userspace application that
may choose to do whatever it wants with the
data received from the USB Host and choose
to provide whatever it wants as audio data
to the USB Host.
f_uac1 also has capture support (gadget->host)
thanks to easy implementation via u_audio.
By default, capture interface has 48000kHz/2ch
configuration, same as playback channel has.
f_uac1 descriptors naming convention
uses f_uac2 driver naming convention that
makes it more common and meaningful.
Comparing to f_uac1_legacy, the f_uac1 doesn't
have volume/mute functionality. This is because
the f_uac1 volume/mute feature unit was dummy
implementation since that driver creation (2009)
and never had any real volume control or mute
functionality, so there is no any difference
here.
Since f_uac1 functionality, exposed
interface to userspace (virtual ALSA card),
input parameters are so different comparing
to f_uac1_legacy, that there is no any
reason to keep them in the same file/module,
and separate function was created.
g_audio can be built using one of existing
UAC functions (f_uac1, f_uac1_legacy or f_uac2)

Abstract the peripheral side ALSA sound card code from
the f_uac2 function into a component that can be called
by various functions, so the various flavors can be split
apart and selectively reused.
Visible changes:
- add uac_params structure to pass audio paramteres for
g_audio_setup
- make ALSA sound card's name configurable
- add [in/out]_ep_maxpsize
- allocate snd_uac_chip structure during g_audio_setup
- add u_audio_[start/stop]_[capture/playback] functions

If there is no UDC available, the msg register will fail and this
flag will not be set, but the driver is already added into pending
driver list, then the module removal modprobe -r can not remove
the driver from the pending list.

What this means is that the gadgetfs_suspend() routine was trying to
access dev->lock after it had been deallocated. The root cause is a
race in the dummy_hcd driver; the dummy_udc_stop() routine can race
with the rest of the driver because it contains no locking. And even
when proper locking is added, it can still race with the
set_link_state() function because that function incorrectly drops the
private spinlock before invoking any gadget driver callbacks.
The result of this race, as seen above, is that set_link_state() can
invoke a callback in gadgetfs even after gadgetfs has been unbound
from dummy_hcd's UDC and its private data structures have been
deallocated.
include/linux/usb/gadget.h documents that the ->reset, ->disconnect,
->suspend, and ->resume callbacks may be invoked in interrupt context.
In general this is necessary, to prevent races with gadget driver
removal. This patch fixes dummy_hcd to retain the spinlock across
these calls, and it adds a spinlock acquisition to dummy_udc_stop() to
prevent the race.
The net2280 driver makes the same mistake of dropping the private
spinlock for its ->disconnect and ->reset callback invocations. The
patch fixes it too.
Lastly, since gadgetfs_suspend() may be invoked in interrupt context,
it cannot assume that interrupts are enabled when it runs. It must
use spin_lock_irqsave() instead of spin_lock_irq(). The patch fixes
that bug as well.

> Kernel panic - not syncing: Fatal exception
The bug was caused by dev_release() failing to turn off its
gadget_registered flag after unregistering the gadget driver. As a
result, when a later user closed the device file before writing a
valid set of descriptors, dev_release() thought the gadget had been
registered and tried to unregister it, even though it had not been.
This led to the NULL pointer dereference.
The fix is simple: turn off the flag when the gadget is unregistered.

Pull USB fixes from Greg KH:
"Here is a number of different USB fixes for 4.11-rc2.
Seems like there were a lot of unresolved issues that people have been
finding for this subsystem, and a bunch of good security auditing
happening as well from Johan Hovold. There's the usual batch of gadget
driver fixes and xhci issues resolved as well.
All of these have been in linux-next with no reported issues"

Now that %z is standartised in C99 there is no reason to support %Z.
Unlike %L it doesn't even make format strings smaller.
Use BUILD_BUG_ON in a couple ATM drivers.
In case anyone didn't notice lib/vsprintf.o is about half of SLUB which
is in my opinion is quite an achievement. Hopefully this patch inspires
someone else to trim vsprintf.c more.

There are only two requests for uac2, it may not be enough at high
loading system which usb interrupt handler can't be serviced on
time, then the data will be lost since it is isoc transfer for audio.
In this patch, we introduce a parameter for the number for usb request,
and the user can override it if current number for request is not enough
for his/her use case.
Besides, update this parameter for legacy audio gadget and documentation.

pnp string is usually much shorter than 1k so let's stop wasting 1k of
memory for its buffer and make it dynamically alocated.
This also removes 1k len limitation for pnp_string and
adds a new line after string content if required.

The dev_config() routine in gadgetfs has a check that

Andrey Konovalov's fuzz testing of gadgetfs showed that we should
improve the driver's checks for valid configuration descriptors passed
in by the user. In particular, the driver needs to verify that the
wTotalLength value in the descriptor is not too short (smaller
than USB_DT_CONFIG_SIZE). And the check for whether wTotalLength is
too large has to be changed, because the driver assumes there is
always enough room remaining in the buffer to hold a device descriptor
(at least USB_DT_DEVICE_SIZE bytes).
This patch adds the additional check and fixes the existing check. It
may do a little more than strictly necessary, but one extra check
won't hurt.

The cause of the bug is subtle. The dev_config() routine gets called
twice by the fuzzer. The first time, the user data contains both a
full-speed configuration descriptor and a high-speed config
descriptor, causing dev->hs_config to be set. But it also contains an
invalid device descriptor, so the buffer containing the descriptors is
deallocated and dev_config() returns an error.
The second time dev_config() is called, the user data contains only a
full-speed config descriptor. But dev->hs_config still has the stale
pointer remaining from the first call, causing the routine to think
that there is a valid high-speed config. Later on, when the driver
dereferences the stale pointer to copy that descriptor, we get a
use-after-free access.
The fix is simple: Clear dev->hs_config if the passed-in data does not
contain a high-speed config descriptor.

Indeed, there is a comment saying that the value of len is restricted
to a 16-bit integer, but the code doesn't actually do this.
This patch fixes the warning. It replaces the comment with a
computation that forces the amount of data copied from the user in
ep0_write() to be no larger than the wLength size for the control
transfer, which is a 16-bit quantity.

Andrey Konovalov reported that we were not properly checking the upper
limit before of a device configuration size before calling
memdup_user(), which could cause some problems.
So set the upper limit to PAGE_SIZE * 4, which should be good enough for

copy_from_iter_full(), copy_from_iter_full_nocache() and
csum_and_copy_from_iter_full() - counterparts of copy_from_iter()
et.al., advancing iterator only in case of successful full copy
and returning whether it had been successful or not.
Convert some obvious users. *NOTE* - do not blindly assume that
something is a good candidate for those unless you are sure that
not advancing iov_iter in failure case is the right thing in
this case. Anything that does short read/short write kind of
stuff (or is in a loop, etc.) is unlikely to be a good one.

CURRENT_TIME macro is not appropriate for filesystems as it
doesn't use the right granularity for filesystem timestamps.
Use current_time() instead.
CURRENT_TIME is also not y2038 safe.
This is also in preparation for the patch that transitions
vfs timestamps to use 64 bit time and hence make them
y2038 safe. As part of the effort current_time() will be
extended to do range checks. Hence, it is necessary for all
file system timestamps to use current_time(). Also,
current_time() will be transitioned along with vfs to be
y2038 safe.
Note that whenever a single call to current_time() is used
to change timestamps in different inodes, it is because they
share the same time granularity.

When reading synchronously from a non-zero endpoint, gadgetfs will

When binding the function to usb_configuration, check whether the thread
is running before starting another one. Without that, when function
instance is added to multiple configurations, fsg_bing starts multiple
threads with all but the latest one being forgotten by the driver. This
leads to obvious thread leaks, possible lockups when trying to halt the
machine and possible more issues.
This fixes issues with legacy/multi¹ gadget as well as configfs gadgets
when mass_storage function is added to multiple configurations.
This change also simplifies API since the legacy gadgets no longer need
to worry about starting the thread by themselves (which was where bug
in legacy/multi was in the first place).
N.B., this patch doesn’t address adding single mass_storage function
instance to a single configuration twice. Thankfully, there’s no
legitimate reason for such setup plus, if I’m not mistaken, configfs
gadget doesn’t even allow it to be expressed.
¹ I have no example failure though. Conclusion that legacy/multi has
a bug is based purely on me reading the code.

PAGE_CACHE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN} macros were introduced *long* time
ago with promise that one day it will be possible to implement page
cache with bigger chunks than PAGE_SIZE.
This promise never materialized. And unlikely will.
We have many places where PAGE_CACHE_SIZE assumed to be equal to
PAGE_SIZE. And it's constant source of confusion on whether
PAGE_CACHE_* or PAGE_* constant should be used in a particular case,
especially on the border between fs and mm.
Global switching to PAGE_CACHE_SIZE != PAGE_SIZE would cause to much
breakage to be doable.
Let's stop pretending that pages in page cache are special. They are
not.
The changes are pretty straight-forward:
- <foo> << (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) -> <foo>;
- <foo> >> (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) -> <foo>;
- PAGE_CACHE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN} -> PAGE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN};
- page_cache_get() -> get_page();
- page_cache_release() -> put_page();
This patch contains automated changes generated with coccinelle using
script below. For some reason, coccinelle doesn't patch header files.
I've called spatch for them manually.
The only adjustment after coccinelle is revert of changes to
PAGE_CAHCE_ALIGN definition: we are going to drop it later.
There are few places in the code where coccinelle didn't reach. I'll
fix them manually in a separate patch. Comments and documentation also
will be addressed with the separate patch.

Since commit 855ed04a3758b205e84b269f92d26ab36ed8e2f7 ("usb: gadget:
udc-core: independent registration of gadgets and gadget drivers") gadget
drivers can not assume that UDC drivers are already available on their
initialization. This broke the HACK, which was used in gadgetfs driver,
to get UDC controller name. This patch removes this hack and replaces it
by additional function in the UDC core (which is usefully only for legacy
drivers, please don't use it in the new code).

Converting tcm to the new function interface requires converting
USB tcm's function code and its users.
This patch converts the f_tcm.c to the new function interface.
The file can be now compiled into a separate module usb_f_tcm.ko.
The old function interface is provided by means of preprocessor conditional
directives. After all users are converted, the old interface can be
removed.

This patch introduces pre-allocation of IN endpoint USB requests. This
improves on latency (requires no usb request allocation on transmit) and avoid
several potential probles on allocating too many usb requests (which involves
DMA pool allocation problems).
This implementation also handles better multiple MIDI Gadget ports, always
processing the last processed MIDI substream if the last USB request wasn't
enought to handle the whole stream.
