This is the minimal set; there's more pending stuff. In particular, I really hope to get acct.c fixes merged this cycle - we need that to deal sanely with delayed-mntput stuff. In the next pile, hopefully - that series is fairly short and localized (kernel/acct.c, fs/super.c and fs/namespace.c). In this pile: more iov_iter work. Most of prereqs for ->splice_write with sane locking order are there and Kent's dio rewrite would also fit nicely on top of this pile" * 'for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/viro/vfs: (70 commits) lock_parent: don't step on stale ->d_parent of all-but-freed one kill generic_file_splice_write() ceph: switch to iter_file_splice_write() shmem: switch to iter_file_splice_write() nfs: switch to iter_splice_write_file() fs/splice.c: remove unneeded exports ocfs2: switch to iter_file_splice_write() ->splice_write() via ->write_iter() bio_vec-backed iov_iter optimize copy_page_{to,from}_iter() bury generic_file_aio_{read,write} lustre: get rid of messing with iovecs ceph: switch to ->write_iter() ceph_sync_direct_write: stop poking into iov_iter guts ceph_sync_read: stop poking into iov_iter guts new helper: copy_page_from_iter() fuse: switch to ->write_iter() btrfs: switch to ->write_iter() ocfs2: switch to ->write_iter() xfs: switch to ->write_iter() ...

* | locks: ensure that fl_owner is always initialized properly in flock and ↵Jeff Layton2014-06-021-3/+0
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | lease codepaths Currently, the fl_owner isn't set for flock locks. Some filesystems use byte-range locks to simulate flock locks and there is a common idiom in those that does: fl->fl_owner = (fl_owner_t)filp; fl->fl_start = 0; fl->fl_end = OFFSET_MAX; Since flock locks are generally "owned" by the open file description, move this into the common flock lock setup code. The fl_start and fl_end fields are already set appropriately, so remove the unneeded setting of that in flock ops in those filesystems as well. Finally, the lease code also sets the fl_owner as if they were owned by the process and not the open file description. This is incorrect as leases have the same ownership semantics as flock locks. Set them the same way. The lease code doesn't actually use the fl_owner value for anything, so this is more for consistency's sake than a bugfix. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | During trinity fuzzing in a kvmtool guest, I stumbled across the following: Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 00000004 PC is at v9fs_file_do_lock+0xc8/0x1a0 LR is at v9fs_file_do_lock+0x48/0x1a0 [<c01e2ed0>] (v9fs_file_do_lock+0xc8/0x1a0) from [<c0119154>] (locks_remove_flock+0x8c/0x124) [<c0119154>] (locks_remove_flock+0x8c/0x124) from [<c00d9bf0>] (__fput+0x58/0x1e4) [<c00d9bf0>] (__fput+0x58/0x1e4) from [<c0044340>] (task_work_run+0xac/0xe8) [<c0044340>] (task_work_run+0xac/0xe8) from [<c002e36c>] (do_exit+0x6bc/0x8d8) [<c002e36c>] (do_exit+0x6bc/0x8d8) from [<c002e674>] (do_group_exit+0x3c/0xb0) [<c002e674>] (do_group_exit+0x3c/0xb0) from [<c002e6f8>] (__wake_up_parent+0x0/0x18) I believe this is due to an attempt to access utsname()->nodename, after exit_task_namespaces() has been called, leaving current->nsproxy->uts_ns as NULL and causing the above dereference. A similar issue was fixed for lockd in 9a1b6bf818e7 ("LOCKD: Don't call utsname()->nodename from nlmclnt_setlockargs"), so this patch attempts something similar for 9pfs. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Move actual pte filling for non-linear file mappings into the new special vma operation: ->remap_pages(). Filesystems must implement this method to get non-linear mapping support, if it uses filemap_fault() then generic_file_remap_pages() can be used. * fs: push i_mutex and filemap_write_and_wait down into ->fsync() handlersJosef Bacik2011-07-201-2/+20
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Btrfs needs to be able to control how filemap_write_and_wait_range() is called in fsync to make it less of a painful operation, so push down taking i_mutex and the calling of filemap_write_and_wait() down into the ->fsync() handlers. Some file systems can drop taking the i_mutex altogether it seems, like ext3 and ocfs2. For correctness sake I just pushed everything down in all cases to make sure that we keep the current behavior the same for everybody, and then each individual fs maintainer can make up their mind about what to do from there. * fs/9p: setrlimit fix for 9p writeHarsh Prateek Bora2010-10-281-4/+19
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Current 9p client file write code does not check for RLIMIT_FSIZE resource. This bug was found by running LTP test case for setrlimit. This bug is fixed by calling generic_write_checks before sending the write request to the server. Without this patch: the write function is allowed to write above the RLIMIT_FSIZE set by user. With this patch: the write function checks for RLIMIT_SIZE and writes upto the size limit. * 9p: Make use of iounit for read/writeM. Mohan Kumar2010-08-021-6/+7
| | | | | | | | | | | Change the v9fs_file_readn function to limit the maximum transfer size based on the iounit or msize. Also remove the redundant check for limiting the transfer size in v9fs_file_write. This check is done by p9_client_write. Signed-off-by: M. * 9p: Skip check for mandatory locks when unlockingSachin Prabhu2010-03-131-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | While investigating a bug, I came across a possible bug in v9fs. The problem is similar to the one reported for NFS by ASANO Masahiro in http://lkml.org/lkml/2005/12/21/334. v9fs_file_lock() will skip locks on file which has mode set to 02666. This is a problem in cases where the mode of the file is changed after a process has obtained a lock on the file. Such a lock will be skipped during unlock and the machine will end up with a BUG in locks_remove_flock(). v9fs_file_lock() should skip the check for mandatory locks when unlocking a file. * 9p: Include fsync support for 9p clientM. Mohan Kumar2010-02-081-0/+19
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Implement the fsync in the client side by marking stat field values to 'don't touch' so that server may interpret it as a request to guarantee that the contents of the associated file are committed to stable storage before the Rwstat message is returned. Without this patch, calling fsync on a 9p file results in "Invalid argument" error. Please check the attached C program. * 9p: Add fscache support to 9pAbhishek Kulkarni2009-09-231-2/+8
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch adds a persistent, read-only caching facility for 9p clients using the FS-Cache caching backend. When the fscache facility is enabled, each inode is associated with a corresponding vcookie which is an index into the FS-Cache indexing tree. The FS-Cache indexing tree is indexed at 3 levels: - session object associated with each mount. - inode/vcookie - actual data (pages) A cache tag is chosen randomly for each session. These tags can be read off /sys/fs/9p/caches and can be passed as a mount-time parameter to re-attach to the specified caching session. * 9p: Fix the incorrect update of inode size in v9fs_file_write()Abhishek Kulkarni2009-09-231-7/+8
| | | | | | | | | | When using the cache=loose flags, the inode's size was not being updated correctly on a remote write. Thus subsequent reads of the whole file resulted in a truncated read. Fix it.
