* | [iov_iter] new primitives - copy_from_iter_full() and friendsAl Viro2016-12-051-1/+1
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | copy_from_iter_full(), copy_from_iter_full_nocache() and csum_and_copy_from_iter_full() - counterparts of copy_from_iter() et.al., advancing iterator only in case of successful full copy and returning whether it had been successful or not. Convert some obvious users. *NOTE* - do not blindly assume that something is a good candidate for those unless you are sure that not advancing iov_iter in failure case is the right thing in this case. Anything that does short read/short write kind of stuff (or is in a loop, etc.) is unlikely to be a good one. Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This is trivial to do: - add flags argument to foo_rename() - check if flags is zero - assign foo_rename() to .rename2 instead of .rename This doesn't mean it's impossible to support RENAME_NOREPLACE for these filesystems, but it is not trivial, like for local filesystems. RENAME_NOREPLACE must guarantee atomicity (i.e. it shouldn't be possible for a file to be created on one host while it is overwritten by rename on another host). Filesystems converted: 9p, afs, ceph, coda, ecryptfs, kernfs, lustre, ncpfs, nfs, ocfs2, orangefs. After this, we can get rid of the duplicate interfaces for rename. * vfs: make the string hashes salt the hashLinus Torvalds2016-06-101-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | We always mixed in the parent pointer into the dentry name hash, but we did it late at lookup time. It turns out that we can simplify that lookup-time action by salting the hash with the parent pointer early instead of late. A few other users of our string hashes also wanted to mix in their own pointers into the hash, and those are updated to use the same mechanism. Hash users that don't have any particular initial salt can just use the NULL pointer as a no-salt. * mm, fs: get rid of PAGE_CACHE_* and page_cache_{get,release} macrosKirill A. Shutemov2016-04-042-6/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | PAGE_CACHE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN} macros were introduced *long* time ago with promise that one day it will be possible to implement page cache with bigger chunks than PAGE_SIZE. This promise never materialized. And unlikely will. We have many places where PAGE_CACHE_SIZE assumed to be equal to PAGE_SIZE. And it's constant source of confusion on whether PAGE_CACHE_* or PAGE_* constant should be used in a particular case, especially on the border between fs and mm. Global switching to PAGE_CACHE_SIZE != PAGE_SIZE would cause to much breakage to be doable. Let's stop pretending that pages in page cache are special. They are not. The changes are pretty straight-forward: - <foo> << (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) -> <foo>; - <foo> >> (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) -> <foo>; - PAGE_CACHE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN} -> PAGE_{SIZE,SHIFT,MASK,ALIGN}; - page_cache_get() -> get_page(); - page_cache_release() -> put_page(); This patch contains automated changes generated with coccinelle using script below. For some reason, coccinelle doesn't patch header files. I've called spatch for them manually. The only adjustment after coccinelle is revert of changes to PAGE_CAHCE_ALIGN definition: we are going to drop it later. There are few places in the code where coccinelle didn't reach. I'll fix them manually in a separate patch. Comments and documentation also will be addressed with the separate patch. virtual patch @@ expression E; @@ - E << (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) + E @@ expression E; @@ - E >> (PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT - PAGE_SHIFT) + E @@ @@ - PAGE_CACHE_SHIFT + PAGE_SHIFT @@ @@ - PAGE_CACHE_SIZE + PAGE_SIZE @@ @@ - PAGE_CACHE_MASK + PAGE_MASK @@ expression E; @@ - PAGE_CACHE_ALIGN(E) + PAGE_ALIGN(E) @@ expression E; @@ - page_cache_get(E) + get_page(E) @@ expression E; @@ - page_cache_release(E) + put_page(E) Signed-off-by: Kirill A. * ncpfs: fix a braino in OOM handling in ncp_fill_cache()Al Viro2016-03-071-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | Failing to allocate an inode for child means that cache for *parent* is incompletely populated. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Mark those kmem allocations that are known to be easily triggered from userspace as __GFP_ACCOUNT/SLAB_ACCOUNT, which makes them accounted to memcg. For the list, see below: - threadinfo - task_struct - task_delay_info - pid - cred - mm_struct - vm_area_struct and vm_region (nommu) - anon_vma and anon_vma_chain - signal_struct - sighand_struct - fs_struct - files_struct - fdtable and fdtable->full_fds_bits - dentry and external_name - inode for all filesystems. This is the most tedious part, because most filesystems overwrite the alloc_inode method. The list is far from complete, so feel free to add more objects. Nevertheless, it should be close to "account everything" approach and keep most workloads within bounds. Malevolent users will be able to breach the limit, but this was possible even with the former "account everything" approach (simply because it did not account everything in fact). | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | new method: ->get_link(); replacement of ->follow_link(). The differences are: * inode and dentry are passed separately * might be called both in RCU and non-RCU mode; the former is indicated by passing it a NULL dentry. * when called that way it isn't allowed to block and should return ERR_PTR(-ECHILD) if it needs to be called in non-RCU mode. It's a flagday change - the old method is gone, all in-tree instances converted. Conversion isn't hard; said that, so far very few instances do not immediately bail out when called in RCU mode. Splitting this from the backing_dev_info structure allows to remove lots of backing_dev_info instance that aren't otherwise needed, and entirely gets rid of the concept of providing a backing_dev_info for a character device. From Florian Westphal. 4) If VLAN untagging fails, we double free the SKB in the bridging output path. From Toshiaki Makita. 5) Several call sites of sk->sk_data_ready() were referencing an SKB just added to the socket receive queue in order to calculate the second argument via skb->len. This is dangerous because the moment the skb is added to the receive queue it can be consumed in another context and freed up. It turns out also that none of the sk->sk_data_ready() implementations even care about this second argument. So just kill it off and thus fix all these use-after-free bugs as a side effect. 6) Fix inverted test in tcp_v6_send_response(), from Lorenzo Colitti. 7) pktgen needs to do locking properly for LLTX devices, from Daniel Borkmann. 8) xen-netfront driver initializes TX array entries in RX loop :-) From Vincenzo Maffione. 9) After refactoring, some tunnel drivers allow a tunnel to be configured on top itself. | * net: Fix use after free by removing length arg from sk_data_ready callbacks.David S. Miller2014-04-112-4/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Several spots in the kernel perform a sequence like: skb_queue_tail(&sk->s_receive_queue, skb); sk->sk_data_ready(sk, skb->len); But at the moment we place the SKB onto the socket receive queue it can be consumed and freed up. So this skb->len access is potentially to freed up memory. Furthermore, the skb->len can be modified by the consumer so it is possible that the value isn't accurate. And finally, no actual implementation of this callback actually uses the length argument. And since nobody actually cared about it's value, lots of call sites pass arbitrary values in such as '0' and even '1'. So just remove the length argument from the callback, that way there is no confusion whatsoever and all of these use-after-free cases get fixed as a side effect. Based upon a patch by Eric Dumazet and his suggestion to audit this issue tree-wide. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

Assorted cleanups and fixes, plus a large preparatory part of iov_iter work. There's a lot more of that, but it'll probably go into the next merge window - it *does* shape up nicely, removes a lot of boilerplate, gets rid of locking inconsistencie between aio_write and splice_write and I hope to get Kent's direct-io rewrite merged into the same queue, but some of the stuff after this point is having (mostly trivial) conflicts with the things already merged into mainline and with some I want more testing. This one passes LTP and xfstests without regressions, in addition to usual beating.
