* remove unused flush_tlb_pgtablesBenjamin Herrenschmidt2007-10-191-11/+0
| | | | | | | | | | Nobody uses flush_tlb_pgtables anymore, this patch removes all remaining traces of it from all archs. * remove strict ansi check from __u64 in asm/types.hOlaf Hering2007-10-171-3/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Remove the __STRICT_ANSI__ check from the __u64/__s64 declaration on 32bit targets. GCC can be made to warn about usage of long long types with ISO C90 (-ansi), but only with -pedantic. You can write this in a way that even then it doesn't cause warnings, namely by: #ifdef __GNUC__ __extension__ typedef __signed__ long long __s64; __extension__ typedef unsigned long long __u64; #endif The __extension__ keyword in front of this switches off any pedantic warnings for this expression. * kill DECLARE_MUTEX_LOCKEDChristoph Hellwig2007-10-171-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | DECLARE_MUTEX_LOCKED was used for semaphores used as completions and we've got rid of them. Well, except for one in libusual that the maintainer explicitly wants to keep as semaphore. So convert that useage to an explicit sema_init and kill of DECLARE_MUTEX_LOCKED so that new code is reminded to use a completion. * [XTENSA] Add support for cache-aliasingChris Zankel2007-08-277-124/+192
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Add support for processors that have cache-aliasing issues, such as the Stretch S5000 processor. Cache-aliasing means that the size of the cache (for one way) is larger than the page size, thus, a page can end up in several places in cache depending on the virtual to physical translation. The method used here is to map a user page temporarily through the auto-refill way 0 and of of the DTLB. We probably will want to revisit this issue and use a better approach with kmap/kunmap. | | | | | | | | | Newer processor versions starting with Xtensa6/LX2 support an 'executable' bit for memory pages. This bit replaces the 'valid' bit, so it must be always set to one for older processor versions. To mark a page invalid, we now set the cache-attributes to b11, which is backward compatible. * [XTENSA] Remove non-rt signal handlingChris Zankel2007-05-315-26/+16
| | | | | | | | | | | The non-rt signal handling was never really used, so we don't break anything. This patch also cleans up the signal stack-frame to make it independent from the processor configuration. It also improves the method used for controlling single-stepping. We now save and restore the 'icountlevel' register that controls single stepping and set or clear the saved state to enable or disable it. Signed-off-by: Chris Zankel <chris@zankel.net>
* [XTENSA] clean-up header filesChris Zankel2007-05-318-16/+18
| | | | | | | | | | The header files in the asm-xtensa directory are not clean and 'make headers_check' fails. This is a first patch to fix most of the header files. It removes unnecessary include statements and adds some that are required for building the kernel. The linker script required some updates or the linking stage would fail. * atomic.h: atomic_add_unless as inline. Remove system.h atomic.h circular ↵Mathieu Desnoyers2007-05-081-8/+15
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | dependency atomic_add_unless as inline. Remove system.h atomic.h circular dependency. I agree (with Andi Kleen) this typeof is not needed and more error prone. All the original atomic.h code that uses cmpxchg (which includes the atomic_add_unless) uses defines instead of inline functions, probably to circumvent a circular dependency between system.h and atomic.h on powerpc (which my patch addresses). Therefore, it makes sense to use inline functions that will provide type checking. atomic_add_unless as inline. Remove system.h atomic.h circular dependency. Digging into the FRV architecture shows me that it is also affected by such a circular dependency. Here is the diff applying this against the rest of my atomic.h patches. * move die notifier handling to common codeChristoph Hellwig2007-05-081-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch moves the die notifier handling to common code. Previous various architectures had exactly the same code for it. Note that the new code is compiled unconditionally, this should be understood as an appel to the other architecture maintainer to implement support for it aswell (aka sprinkling a notify_die or two in the proper place) arm had a notifiy_die that did something totally different, I renamed it to arm_notify_die as part of the patch and made it static to the file it's declared and used at. avr32 used to pass slightly less information through this interface and I brought it into line with the other architectures. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Add hooks to allow a paravirt implementation to track the lifetime of an mm. Paravirtualization requires three hooks, but only two are needed in common code. They are: arch_dup_mmap, which is called when a new mmap is created at fork arch_exit_mmap, which is called when the last process reference to an mm is dropped, which typically happens on exit and exec. The third hook is activate_mm, which is called from the arch-specific activate_mm() macro/function, and so doesn't need stub versions for other architectures. It's called when an mm is first used. * [NET]: Adding SO_TIMESTAMPNS / SCM_TIMESTAMPNS supportEric Dumazet2007-04-251-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Now that network timestamps use ktime_t infrastructure, we can add a new SOL_SOCKET sockopt SO_TIMESTAMPNS. This command is similar to SO_TIMESTAMP, but permits transmission of a 'timespec struct' instead of a 'timeval struct' control message. (nanosecond resolution instead of microsecond) Control message is labelled SCM_TIMESTAMPNS instead of SCM_TIMESTAMP A socket cannot mix SO_TIMESTAMP and SO_TIMESTAMPNS : the two modes are mutually exclusive. sock_recv_timestamp() became too big to be fully inlined so I added a __sock_recv_timestamp() helper function. * [PATCH] consolidate line discipline number definitionsTilman Schmidt2007-02-111-19/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The line discipline numbers N_* are currently defined for each architecture individually, but (except for a seeming mistake) identically, in asm/termios.h. There is no obvious reason why these numbers should be architecture specific, nor any apparent relationship with the termios structure. The total number of these, NR_LDISCS, is defined in linux/tty.h anyway. So I propose the following patch which moves the definitions of the individual line disciplines to linux/tty.h too. Three of these numbers (N_MASC, N_PROFIBUS_FDL, and N_SMSBLOCK) are unused in the current kernel, but the patch still keeps the complete set in case there are plans to use them yet. * [PATCH] Remove final references to deprecated "MAP_ANON" page protection flagRobert P. J. Day2007-02-111-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | Remove the last vestiges of the long-deprecated "MAP_ANON" page protection flag: use "MAP_ANONYMOUS" instead. Signed-off-by: Robert P. J. * [PATCH] FD_ZERO build fixAndrew Morton2007-01-111-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | unionfs managed to hit this on s390. Some architectures use __ptr_t in their FD_ZERO implementation. We don't have a __ptr_t. Switch them over to plain old void*. * [PATCH] Optimize D-cache alias handling on forkRalf Baechle2006-12-131-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | Virtually index, physically tagged cache architectures can get away without cache flushing when forking. This patch adds a new cache flushing function flush_cache_dup_mm(struct mm_struct *) which for the moment I've implemented to do the same thing on all architectures except on MIPS where it's a no-op. * [PATCH] Xtensa: Add ktermios and minor filename fixChris Zankel2006-12-132-1/+11
| | | | | | | | | | | The kernel termios (ktermios) changes were somehow missed for Xtensa. This patch adds the ktermios structure and also includes some minor file name fix that was missed in the syscall patch. * [PATCH] xtensa: fix system call interfaceChris Zankel2006-12-106-312/+736
| | | | | | | | | | | This is a long outstanding patch to finally fix the syscall interface. The constants used for the system calls are those we have provided in our libc patches. This patch also fixes the shmbuf and stat structure, and fcntl definitions. * [PATCH] xtensa: remove extra header filesChris Zankel2006-12-1041-6128/+1070
| | | | | | | | | | | The Xtensa port contained many header files that were never needed. This rather lengthy patch removes all those files. Unfortunately, there were many dependencies that needed to be updated, so this patch touches quite a few source files. * [PATCH] xtensa: fix irq and misc fixesChris Zankel2006-12-105-27/+8
| | | | | | | | | Update the architecture specific interrupt handling code for Xtensa to support the new API. Use generic BUG macros in bug.h, and some minor fixes. * [PATCH] Pass struct dev pointer to dma_cache_sync()Ralf Baechle2006-12-071-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Pass struct dev pointer to dma_cache_sync() dma_cache_sync() is ill-designed in that it does not have a struct device pointer argument which makes proper support for systems that consist of a mix of coherent and non-coherent DMA devices hard. Change dma_cache_sync to take a struct device pointer as first argument and fix all its callers to pass it.
