* | Revert "lib: build list_sort() only if needed"Linus Torvalds2010-03-071-3/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This reverts commit a069c266ae5fdfbf5b4aecf2c672413aa33b2504. It turns ou that not only was it missing a case (XFS) that needed it, but perhaps more importantly, people sometimes want to enable new modules that they hadn't had enabled before, and if such a module uses list_sort(), it can't easily be inserted any more. So rather than add a "select LIST_SORT" to the XFS case, just leave it compiled in. It's not all _that_ big, after all, and the inconvenience isn't worth it. * lib: Provide generic atomic64_t implementationPaul Mackerras2009-06-151-0/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Many processor architectures have no 64-bit atomic instructions, but we need atomic64_t in order to support the perf_counter subsystem. This adds an implementation of 64-bit atomic operations using hashed spinlocks to provide atomicity. For each atomic operation, the address of the atomic64_t variable is hashed to an index into an array of 16 spinlocks. That spinlock is taken (with interrupts disabled) around the operation, which can then be coded non-atomically within the lock. On UP, all the spinlock manipulation goes away and we simply disable interrupts around each operation. In fact gcc eliminates the whole atomic64_lock variable as well. | * libcrc32c: Select CRYPTO in KconfigHerbert Xu2008-12-251-0/+1

| * libcrc32c: Move implementation to crypto crc32cHerbert Xu2008-12-251-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch swaps the role of libcrc32c and crc32c. Previously the implementation was in libcrc32c and crc32c was a wrapper. Now the code is in crc32c and libcrc32c just calls the crypto layer. The reason for the change is to tap into the algorithm selection capability of the crypto API so that optimised implementations such as the one utilising Intel's CRC32C instruction can be used where available. * Kconfig: eliminate "def_bool n" constructsJan Beulich2008-10-161-2/+2

* x86, bitops: select the generic bitmap search functionsAlexander van Heukelum2008-04-261-0/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Introduce GENERIC_FIND_FIRST_BIT and GENERIC_FIND_NEXT_BIT in lib/Kconfig, defaulting to off. An arch that wants to use the generic implementation now only has to use a select statement to include them. I added an always-y option (X86_CPU) to arch/x86/Kconfig.cpu and used that to select the generic search functions. This way ARCH=um SUBARCH=i386 automatically picks up the change too, and arch/um/Kconfig.i386 can therefore be simplified a bit. ARCH=um SUBARCH=x86_64 does things differently, but still compiles fine. It seems that a "def_bool y" always wins over a "def_bool n"? * Add LZO1X algorithm to the kernelRichard Purdie2007-07-101-0/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This is a hybrid version of the patch to add the LZO1X compression algorithm to the kernel. Nitin and myself have merged the best parts of the various patches to form this version which we're both happy with (and are jointly signing off). The performance of this version is equivalent to the original minilzo code it was based on. Bytecode comparisons have also been made on ARM, i386 and x86_64 with favourable results. |/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Architectures that don't support DMA can say so by adding a config NO_DMA to their Kconfig file. This will prevent compilation of some dma specific driver code. Also dma-mapping-broken.h isn't needed anymore on at least s390. This avoids compilation and linking of otherwise dead/broken code. Other architectures that include dma-mapping-broken.h are arm26, h8300, m68k, m68knommu and v850. If these could be converted as well we could get rid of the header file. * [LIB]: Naive finite state machine based textsearchThomas Graf2005-06-231-0/+11
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A finite state machine consists of n states (struct ts_fsm_token) representing the pattern as a finite automation. The data is read sequentially on a octet basis. Every state token specifies the number of recurrences and the type of value accepted which can be either a specific character or ctype based set of characters. The available type of recurrences include 1, (0|1), [0 n], and [1 n]. The algorithm differs between strict/non-strict mode specyfing whether the pattern has to start at the first octect. Strict mode is enabled by default and can be disabled by inserting TS_FSM_HEAD_IGNORE as the first token in the chain. The runtime performance of the algorithm should be around O(n), however while in strict mode the average runtime can be better. Signed-off-by: Thomas Graf <tgraf@suug.ch> Signed-off-by: David S. * [LIB]: Knuth-Morris-Pratt textsearch algorithmThomas Graf2005-06-231-0/+10
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Implements a linear-time string-matching algorithm due to Knuth, Morris, and Pratt [1]. Their algorithm avoids the explicit computation of the transition function DELTA altogether. Its matching time is O(n), for n being length(text), using just an auxiliary function PI[1..m], for m being length(pattern), precomputed from the pattern in time O(m). The array PI allows the transition function DELTA to be computed efficiently "on the fly" as needed. Roughly speaking, for any state "q" = 0,1,...,m and any character "a" in SIGMA, the value PI["q"] contains the information that is independent of "a" and is needed to compute DELTA("q", "a") [2]. Since the array PI has only m entries, whereas DELTA has O(m|SIGMA|) entries, we save a factor of |SIGMA| in the preprocessing time by computing PI rather than DELTA. * [PATCH] ia64 uncached allocJes Sorensen2005-06-211-0/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch contains the ia64 uncached page allocator and the generic allocator (genalloc). The uncached allocator was formerly part of the SN2 mspec driver but there are several other users of it so it has been split off from the driver. The generic allocator can be used by device driver to manage special memory etc. The generic allocator is based on the allocator from the sym53c8xx_2 driver. Various users on ia64 needs uncached memory. The SGI SN architecture requires it for inter-partition communication between partitions within a large NUMA cluster. The specific user for this is the XPC code. Another application is large MPI style applications which use it for synchronization, on SN this can be done using special 'fetchop' operations but it also benefits non SN hardware which may use regular uncached memory for this purpose. Performance of doing this through uncached vs cached memory is pretty substantial. This is handled by the mspec driver which I will push out in a seperate patch. Rather than creating a specific allocator for just uncached memory I came up with genalloc which is a generic purpose allocator that can be used by device drivers and other subsystems as they please. For instance to handle onboard device memory. It was derived from the sym53c7xx_2 driver's allocator which is also an example of a potential user (I am refraining from modifying sym2 right now as it seems to have been under fairly heavy development recently). On ia64 memory has various properties within a granule, ie. it isn't safe to access memory as uncached within the same granule as currently has memory accessed in cached mode. The regular system therefore doesn't utilize memory in the lower granules which is mixed in with device PAL code etc. The uncached driver walks the EFI memmap and pulls out the spill uncached pages and sticks them into the uncached pool. Only after these chunks have been utilized, will it start converting regular cached memory into uncached memory. Hence the reason for the EFI related code additions. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
