* decompressors: add boot-time XZ supportLasse Collin2011-01-131-0/+4
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This implements the API defined in <linux/decompress/generic.h> which is used for kernel, initramfs, and initrd decompression. This patch together with the first patch is enough for XZ-compressed initramfs and initrd; XZ-compressed kernel will need arch-specific changes. The buffering requirements described in decompress_unxz.c are stricter than with gzip, so the relevant changes should be done to the arch-specific code when adding support for XZ-compressed kernel. Similarly, the heap size in arch-specific pre-boot code may need to be increased (30 KiB is enough). The XZ decompressor needs memmove(), memeq() (memcmp() == 0), and memzero() (memset(ptr, 0, size)), which aren't available in all arch-specific pre-boot environments. I'm including simple versions in decompress_unxz.c, but a cleaner solution would naturally be nicer. Signed-off-by: Lasse Collin <lasse.collin@tukaani.org> Cc: "H. * decompressors: add XZ decompressor moduleLasse Collin2011-01-131-0/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | In userspace, the .lzma format has become mostly a legacy file format that got superseded by the .xz format. Similarly, LZMA Utils was superseded by XZ Utils. These patches add support for XZ decompression into the kernel. Most of the code is as is from XZ Embedded <http://tukaani.org/xz/embedded.html>. It was written for the Linux kernel but is usable in other projects too. Advantages of XZ over the current LZMA code in the kernel: - Nice API that can be used by other kernel modules; it's not limited to kernel, initramfs, and initrd decompression. - Integrity check support (CRC32) - BCJ filters improve compression of executable code on certain architectures. These together with LZMA2 can produce a few percent smaller kernel or Squashfs images than plain LZMA without making the decompression slower. This patch: Add the main decompression code (xz_dec), testing module (xz_dec_test), wrapper script (xz_wrap.sh) for the xz command line tool, and documentation. The xz_dec module is enough to have a usable XZ decompressor e.g. for Squashfs. Signed-off-by: Lasse Collin <lasse.collin@tukaani.org> Cc: "H. * lib: Add generic exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) functionBruno Randolf2010-11-181-0/+3
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This adds generic functions for calculating Exponentially Weighted Moving Averages (EWMA). This implementation makes use of a structure which keeps the EWMA parameters and a scaled up internal representation to reduce rounding errors. The original idea for this implementation came from the rt2x00 driver (rt2x00link.c). I would like to use it in several places in the mac80211 and ath5k code and I hope it can be useful in many other places in the kernel code. * | Revert "lib: build list_sort() only if needed"Linus Torvalds2010-03-071-3/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This reverts commit a069c266ae5fdfbf5b4aecf2c672413aa33b2504. It turns ou that not only was it missing a case (XFS) that needed it, but perhaps more importantly, people sometimes want to enable new modules that they hadn't had enabled before, and if such a module uses list_sort(), it can't easily be inserted any more. So rather than add a "select LIST_SORT" to the XFS case, just leave it compiled in. It's not all _that_ big, after all, and the inconvenience isn't worth it. * lib: Provide generic atomic64_t implementationPaul Mackerras2009-06-151-0/+6
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Many processor architectures have no 64-bit atomic instructions, but we need atomic64_t in order to support the perf_counter subsystem. This adds an implementation of 64-bit atomic operations using hashed spinlocks to provide atomicity. For each atomic operation, the address of the atomic64_t variable is hashed to an index into an array of 16 spinlocks. That spinlock is taken (with interrupts disabled) around the operation, which can then be coded non-atomically within the lock. On UP, all the spinlock manipulation goes away and we simply disable interrupts around each operation. In fact gcc eliminates the whole atomic64_lock variable as well. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Introduce GENERIC_FIND_FIRST_BIT and GENERIC_FIND_NEXT_BIT in lib/Kconfig, defaulting to off. An arch that wants to use the generic implementation now only has to use a select statement to include them. I added an always-y option (X86_CPU) to arch/x86/Kconfig.cpu and used that to select the generic search functions. This way ARCH=um SUBARCH=i386 automatically picks up the change too, and arch/um/Kconfig.i386 can therefore be simplified a bit. ARCH=um SUBARCH=x86_64 does things differently, but still compiles fine. It seems that a "def_bool y" always wins over a "def_bool n"? * [LIB]: Naive finite state machine based textsearchThomas Graf2005-06-231-0/+11
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | A finite state machine consists of n states (struct ts_fsm_token) representing the pattern as a finite automation. The data is read sequentially on a octet basis. Every state token specifies the number of recurrences and the type of value accepted which can be either a specific character or ctype based set of characters. The available type of recurrences include 1, (0|1), [0 n], and [1 n]. The algorithm differs between strict/non-strict mode specyfing whether the pattern has to start at the first octect. Strict mode is enabled by default and can be disabled by inserting TS_FSM_HEAD_IGNORE as the first token in the chain. The runtime performance of the algorithm should be around O(n), however while in strict mode the average runtime can be better. Signed-off-by: Thomas Graf <tgraf@suug.ch> Signed-off-by: David S. * [LIB]: Knuth-Morris-Pratt textsearch algorithmThomas Graf2005-06-231-0/+10
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Implements a linear-time string-matching algorithm due to Knuth, Morris, and Pratt [1]. Their algorithm avoids the explicit computation of the transition function DELTA altogether. Its matching time is O(n), for n being length(text), using just an auxiliary function PI[1..m], for m being length(pattern), precomputed from the pattern in time O(m). The array PI allows the transition function DELTA to be computed efficiently "on the fly" as needed. Roughly speaking, for any state "q" = 0,1,...,m and any character "a" in SIGMA, the value PI["q"] contains the information that is independent of "a" and is needed to compute DELTA("q", "a") [2]. Since the array PI has only m entries, whereas DELTA has O(m|SIGMA|) entries, we save a factor of |SIGMA| in the preprocessing time by computing PI rather than DELTA.
