syzbot found another use-after-free in ip6_route_mpath_notify() [1]
Commit f7225172f25a ("net/ipv6: prevent use after free in
ip6_route_mpath_notify") was not able to fix the root cause.
We need to defer the fib6_info_release() calls after
ip6_route_mpath_notify(), in the cleanup phase.

FIB6 GC walks trees of fib6_tables to remove expired routes. Walking a tree
can be expensive if the number of routes in a table is big, even if most of
them are permanent. Checking routes in a separated list of routes having
expiration will avoid this potential issue.

Pass the duration of a lifetime (in seconds) to the function
rt6_add_dflt_router() so that it can properly set the expiration time.
The function ndisc_router_discovery() is the only one that calls
rt6_add_dflt_router(), and it will later set the expiration time for the
route created by rt6_add_dflt_router(). However, there is a gap of time
between calling rt6_add_dflt_router() and setting the expiration time in
ndisc_router_discovery(). During this period, there is a possibility that a
new route may be removed from the routing table. By setting the correct
expiration time in rt6_add_dflt_router(), we can prevent this from
happening. The reason for setting RTF_EXPIRES in rt6_add_dflt_router() is
to start the Garbage Collection (GC) timer, as it only activates when a
route with RTF_EXPIRES is added to a table.

In some configurations, the 'iter' variable in function
fib6_repair_tree() is unused, resulting the following warning when
compiled with W=1.

It is unclear what is the advantage of this RT6_TRACE() macro[1], since
users can control pr_debug() in runtime, which is better than at
compilation time. pr_debug() has no overhead when disabled.
Remove the RT6_TRACE() in favor of simple pr_debug() helpers.

This reverts commit 3dec89b14d37ee635e772636dad3f09f78f1ab87.
The commit has some race conditions given how expires is managed on a
fib6_info in relation to gc start, adding the entry to the gc list and
setting the timer value leading to UAF. Revert the commit and try again
in a later release.

Since commit 1202cdd66531("Remove DECnet support from kernel") has been
merged, all callers pass in the initial_ref value of 1 when they call
dst_alloc(). Therefore, remove initial_ref when the dst_alloc() is
declared and replace initial_ref with 1 in dst_alloc().
Also when all callers call dst_init(), the value of initial_ref is 1.
Therefore, remove the input parameter initial_ref of the dst_init() and
replace initial_ref with the value 1 in dst_init.

Route hints when the nexthop is part of a multipath group causes packets
in the same receive batch to be sent to the same nexthop irrespective of
the multipath hash of the packet. So, do not extract route hint for
packets whose destination is part of a multipath group.
A new SKB flag IP6SKB_MULTIPATH is introduced for this purpose, set the
flag when route is looked up in fib6_select_path() and use it in
ip6_can_use_hint() to check for the existence of the flag.

Pull sysctl updates from Luis Chamberlain:
"Long ago we set out to remove the kitchen sink on kernel/sysctl.c
arrays and placings sysctls to their own sybsystem or file to help
avoid merge conflicts. Matthew Wilcox pointed out though that if we're
going to do that we might as well also *save* space while at it and
try to remove the extra last sysctl entry added at the end of each
array, a sentintel, instead of bloating the kernel by adding a new
sentinel with each array moved.
Doing that was not so trivial, and has required slowing down the moves
of kernel/sysctl.c arrays and measuring the impact on size by each new
move.
The complex part of the effort to help reduce the size of each sysctl
is being done by the patient work of el señor Don Joel Granados. A lot
of this is truly painful code refactoring and testing and then trying
to measure the savings of each move and removing the sentinels.
Although Joel already has code which does most of this work,
experience with sysctl moves in the past shows is we need to be
careful due to the slew of odd build failures that are possible due to
the amount of random Kconfig options sysctls use.
To that end Joel's work is split by first addressing the major
housekeeping needed to remove the sentinels, which is part of this
merge request. The rest of the work to actually remove the sentinels
will be done later in future kernel releases.
The preliminary math is showing this will all help reduce the overall
build time size of the kernel and run time memory consumed by the
kernel by about ~64 bytes per array where we are able to remove each
sentinel in the future. That also means there is no more bloating the
kernel with the extra ~64 bytes per array moved as no new sentinels
are created"

Move from register_net_sysctl to register_net_sysctl_sz for all the
networking related files. Do this while making sure to mirror the NULL
assignments with a table_size of zero for the unprivileged users.
We need to move to the new function in preparation for when we change
SIZE_MAX to ARRAY_SIZE() in the register_net_sysctl macro. Failing to do
so would erroneously allow ARRAY_SIZE() to be called on a pointer. We
hold off the SIZE_MAX to ARRAY_SIZE change until we have migrated all
the relevant net sysctl registering functions to register_net_sysctl_sz
in subsequent commits.
An additional size function was added to the following files in order to
calculate the size of an array that is defined in another file:

When the ifdown function in the dst_ops structure is referenced, the input
parameter 'how' is always true. In the current implementation of the
ifdown interface, ip6_dst_ifdown does not use the input parameter 'how',
xfrm6_dst_ifdown and xfrm4_dst_ifdown functions use the input parameter
'unregister'. But false judgment on 'unregister' in xfrm6_dst_ifdown and
xfrm4_dst_ifdown is false, so remove the input parameter 'how' in ifdown
function.

After deleting an IPv6 address on an interface and cleaning up the
related preferred source entries, it is important to ensure that all
routes associated with the deleted address are properly cleared. The
current implementation of rt6_remove_prefsrc() only checks the preferred
source addresses bound to the current device. However, there may be
routes that are bound to other devices but still utilize the same
preferred source address.
To address this issue, it is necessary to also delete entries that are
bound to other interfaces but share the same source address with the
current device. Failure to delete these entries would leave routes that
are bound to the deleted address unclear. Here is an example reproducer
(I have omitted unrelated routes):

As Ido reminds, in IPv6, the preferred source address is looked up in
the same VRF as the first nexthop device, which is different with IPv4.
So, while removing the device checking, we also need to add an
ipv6_chk_addr() check to make sure the address does not exist on the other
devices of the rt nexthop device's VRF.

FIB6 GC walks trees of fib6_tables to remove expired routes. Walking a tree
can be expensive if the number of routes in a table is big, even if most of
them are permanent. Checking routes in a separated list of routes having
expiration will avoid this potential issue.

Patch "net: dst: Prevent false sharing vs. dst_entry:: __refcnt" moved
rt_uncached and rt_uncached_list fields from rtable struct to dst
struct, so they are more zeroed by memset_after(xdst, 0, u.dst) in
xfrm_alloc_dst().
Note that rt_uncached (list_head) was never properly initialized at
alloc time, but xfrm[46]_dst_destroy() is written in such a way that
it was not an issue thanks to the memset:

Under high contention dst_entry::__refcnt becomes a significant bottleneck.
atomic_inc_not_zero() is implemented with a cmpxchg() loop, which goes into
high retry rates on contention.
Switch the reference count to rcuref_t which results in a significant
performance gain. Rename the reference count member to __rcuref to reflect
the change.
The gain depends on the micro-architecture and the number of concurrent
operations and has been measured in the range of +25% to +130% with a
localhost memtier/memcached benchmark which amplifies the problem
massively.
Running the memtier/memcached benchmark over a real (1Gb) network
connection the conversion on top of the false sharing fix for struct
dst_entry::__refcnt results in a total gain in the 2%-5% range over the
upstream baseline.

dst_entry::__refcnt is highly contended in scenarios where many connections
happen from and to the same IP. The reference count is an atomic_t, so the
reference count operations have to take the cache-line exclusive.
Aside of the unavoidable reference count contention there is another
significant problem which is caused by that: False sharing.
perf top identified two affected read accesses. dst_entry::lwtstate and
rtable::rt_genid.
dst_entry:__refcnt is located at offset 64 of dst_entry, which puts it into
a seperate cacheline vs. the read mostly members located at the beginning
of the struct.
That prevents false sharing vs. the struct members in the first 64
bytes of the structure, but there is also
dst_entry::lwtstate
which is located after the reference count and in the same cache line. This
member is read after a reference count has been acquired.
struct rtable embeds a struct dst_entry at offset 0. struct dst_entry has a
size of 112 bytes, which means that the struct members of rtable which
follow the dst member share the same cache line as dst_entry::__refcnt.
Especially
rtable::rt_genid
is also read by the contexts which have a reference count acquired
already.
When dst_entry:__refcnt is incremented or decremented via an atomic
operation these read accesses stall. This was found when analysing the
memtier benchmark in 1:100 mode, which amplifies the problem extremly.
Move the rt[6i]_uncached[_list] members out of struct rtable and struct
rt6_info into struct dst_entry to provide padding and move the lwtstate
member after that so it ends up in the same cache line.
The resulting improvement depends on the micro-architecture and the number
of CPUs. It ranges from +20% to +120% with a localhost memtier/memcached
benchmark.

Sending Ipv6 packets in a loop via a raw socket triggers an issue where a
route is cloned by ip6_rt_cache_alloc() for each packet sent. This quickly
consumes the Ipv6 max_size threshold which defaults to 4096 resulting in
these warnings:

Implement David Aherns suggestion to remove max_size check seeing that Ipv6
has a GC to manage memory usage. Ipv4 already does not check max_size.

socket 5000000 times. Compare Ipv4 and Ipv6 performance with a similar
program.

When routes corresponding to addresses are restored by
fixup_permanent_addr(), the dst_nopolicy parameter was not set.
The typical use case is a user that configures an address on a down
interface and then put this interface up.
Let's take care of this flag in addrconf_f6i_alloc(), so that every callers
benefit ont it.

Netdev reference helpers have a dev_ prefix for historic
reasons. Renaming the old helpers would be too much churn
but we can rename the tracking ones which are relatively
recent and should be the default for new code.

There is a possible risk of under-flow, leading

The fundamental premise of VRF and l3mdev core code is binding a socket
to a device (l3mdev or netdev with an L3 domain) to indicate L3 scope.
Legacy code resets flowi_oif to the l3mdev losing any original port
device binding. Ben (among others) has demonstrated use cases where the
original port device binding is important and needs to be retained.
This patch handles that by adding a new entry to the common flow struct
that can indicate the l3mdev index for later rule and table matching
avoiding the need to reset flowi_oif.
In addition to allowing more use cases that require port device binds,
this patch brings a few datapath simplications:
1. l3mdev_fib_rule_match is only called when walking fib rules and
always after l3mdev_update_flow. That allows an optimization to bail
early for non-VRF type uses cases when flowi_l3mdev is not set. Also,
only that index needs to be checked for the FIB table id.
2. l3mdev_update_flow can be called with flowi_oif set to a l3mdev
(e.g., VRF) device. By resetting flowi_oif only for this case the
FLOWI_FLAG_SKIP_NH_OIF flag is not longer needed and can be removed,
removing several checks in the datapath. The flowi_iif path can be
simplified to only be called if the it is not loopback (loopback can
not be assigned to an L3 domain) and the l3mdev index is not already
set.
3. Avoid another device lookup in the output path when the fib lookup
returns a reject failure.
Note: 2 functional tests for local traffic with reject fib rules are
updated to reflect the new direct failure at FIB lookup time for ping
rather than the failure on packet path. The current code fails like this:
