* | sysv: Remove the filesystemJan Kara2025-02-211-1/+0
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Since 2002 (change "Replace BKL for chain locking with sysvfs-private rwlock") the sysv filesystem was doing IO under a rwlock in its get_block() function (yes, a non-sleepable lock hold over a function used to read inode metadata for all reads and writes). Nobody noticed until syzbot in 2023 [1]. This shows nobody is using the filesystem. Just drop it. | | | | | | | | | | | | ReiserFS has been deprecated for a year and a half, yet is still built as part of a defconfig kernel. * mm/slab: rename CONFIG_SLAB to CONFIG_SLAB_DEPRECATEDVlastimil Babka2023-05-261-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | As discussed at LSF/MM [1] [2] and with no objections raised there, deprecate the SLAB allocator. Rename the user-visible option so that users with CONFIG_SLAB=y get a new prompt with explanation during make oldconfig, while make olddefconfig will just switch to SLUB. In all defconfigs with CONFIG_SLAB=y remove the line so those also switch to SLUB. Regressions due to the switch should be reported to linux-mm and slab maintainers. While these quirks are for fairly rare devices (very old CD burners, and a glucometer), the additional detection of these models is a very minimal amount of code. The logic behind the quirks is always built into the sr driver. This also removes the config from all the defconfig files that are enabling this already. * MIPS: Make CONFIG_MIPS_MT_SMP default yPaul Burton2017-08-301-1/+0
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | On systems that support MT ASE multithreading (ie. VPEs) we are very likely to want to include that support as default. Rather than setting it in various defconfigs, simply make CONFIG_MIPS_MT_SMP default y such that systems which select CONFIG_SYS_SUPPORTS_MULTITHREADING get it by default. As well as allowing us to remove the selection of CONFIG_MIPS_MT_SMP from various defconfigs, this also allows the generated generic defconfigs which derive from generic_defconfig to automatically gain support for MT ASE SMP when building for a suitable (pre-MIPSr6) ISA. For malta_kvm_guest_defconfig CONFIG_MIPS_MT_SMP is explicitly disabled since enabling SMP implicitly disables CONFIG_KVM_GUEST, which depends on CONFIG_BROKEN_ON_SMP. * MIPS: malta_kvm_defconfig: Convert to use libata PATA driversBartlomiej Zolnierkiewicz2015-11-111-7/+9
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | IDE subsystem has been deprecated since 2009 and the majority (if not all) of Linux distributions have switched to use libata for ATA support exclusively. However there are still some users (mostly old or/and embedded non-x86 systems) that have not converted from using IDE subsystem to libata PATA drivers. This doesn't seem to be good thing in the long-term for Linux as while there is less and less PATA systems left in use: * testing efforts are divided between two subsystems * having duplicate drivers for same hardware confuses users This patch converts malta_kvm_defconfig to use libata PATA drivers (tc86c001 IDE host driver has no corresponding libata driver yet so it is not converted). * MIPS: Default NR_CPUS=8 for malta SMP defconfigsPaul Burton2014-03-261-1/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The previous NR_CPUS=2 default is not an optimal default for current Malta setups where it is common to have more than 2 CPUs available. It makes sense to increase this to a number which covers all common setups currently in use, such that all of those cores are usable. 8 seems to fit that description. If the user has less than 8 CPUs & they wish to have a more optimal kernel they can simply reduce this in their config. It makes sense for the default to work on as many systems as possible. * MIPS: Malta: Enable DEVTMPFSMarkos Chandras2014-03-261-0/+1
| | | | | | | | | | | | Recent versions of udev and systemd require the kernel to be compiled with CONFIG_DEVTMPFS in order to populate the /dev directory. Most MIPS platforms have it enabled by default, so enable it for Malta configs as well. * MIPS: Regenerate malta defconfigsPaul Burton2014-03-261-7/+2
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch simply regenerates the malta defconfigs such that they don't change after being used & saved as a defconfig again. ie. it is the result of running the following: for cfg in arch/mips/configs/malta*; do ARCH=mips make `basename ${cfg}` ARCH=mips make savedefconfig mv -v defconfig ${cfg} done Signed-off-by: Paul Burton <paul.burton@imgtec.com> Signed-off-by: Markos Chandras <markos.chandras@imgtec.com> Cc: linux-mips@linux-mips.org Patchwork: https://patchwork.linux-mips.org/patch/6578/ Signed-off-by: Ralf Baechle <ralf@linux-mips.org>
